Q may get moved "sooner than you think"

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) I'd say none of those trades work. Braves definitely say no. Yankees say no simply to avoid giving up two OFs. Sox say no to Brewers & Rockies because of the secondary pieces. There is zero chance the Sox would turn down a deal involving McMahon and Rodgers form Colorado. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) Rondo expected to get bought out today, barring a last minute trade. Supposedly he is interested in mentoring the young players, but it appears Bulls are going to head another direction. Another report out their that Bulls are going to sign European PG Milos Teodosic. 30 year old point guard who is a good shooter and has played well in international competition against NBA players. Not sure how it helps in the overall rebuild, but evidently he wants to play for the Bulls. It takes minutes away from young players you need to evaluate and helps you win meaningless games. I'm not a Kris Dunn fan but I'd still rather him get a ton of playing time and see what he has than sign a 30 year old PG to a rebuilding team. I might feel differently if I had any confidence at all the Bulls would move Teodosic for future assets if he actually shows himself to be a good NBA player. -

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 08:03 AM) It's hard for some because we're not all willing to dumb it down like you are. The game is complicated and these trades aren't made in a vacuum. Your inability to accept reality, that the Bulls wanted to rebuild and this was the best offer they had, is indicative of your lack of understanding, not our lack of understanding. Yep, and this same front office decided not to trade Pau Gasol to try to sneak into the 8th spot of the playoffs and turned Taj Gibson into garbage and gave up a second round pick to do it. They should totally be given the benefit of the doubt. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 07:06 AM) Can someone explain to me Lavine's contract situation? Does he only have one year left and then becomes a restricted free agent? Or does he have two years left before becoming restricted? Given his ACL issue, I really hope it's the ladder and not the former. Either way, this trade reflects the problem with trading your only chip and not getting anyone with star potential back in return. Lavine is going to get paid in a year or two and start eating up cap space that theoretically could have been used to sign a star in free agency (long-shot I know). I guess you could always move him for more assets down the road, but you're not going to get a ton when he's making a f***ton of money unless he takes another step forward. I just wish we got at least one guy in return for Butler that has star upside. Lavine will be a restricted free agent after this upcoming season. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) The rumors out there make it appear this could be one of the busiest trade splurges in a long time. Of course, the dust might settle and nothing happens. Seems like a lot of potential major shake-ups out there. I feel like these types of rumors of mass player movement end up all being complete duds. But maybe the Warriors have broken the NBA so badly that teams are all just like screw it, lets rebuild for 5 years from now and let the Cavs, Spurs and Warriors fight this out in the meantime. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) Im just not that enthusiastic about the Celtics team. I like their picks, I just think that they are using them incorrectly. Basketball is about generational talents. Right now the Celtics (imo) are lacking that. Getting a generational talent in the draft is hard. Celtic's positioning is somewhat bad because GSW has 2 generational talents (I hate to say that about Curry, but unless he falls off a cliff he is one.) Teams that have Westbrook, Lebron etc, are closer than Celtics because they only need to figure out a way to add another super star. If I were the Celtics Id be using my picks to trade for superstars, instead of dicking around trading down for more picks etc. I don't disagree but I also don't think guys like Butler or George really move the needle for them (unless you can get one while still keeping at least one of the high picks). They need to go even bigger than that to move these picks. Otherwise you might as well continue to build and think long term. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) Amazing...all of big basketball fans I know barely watched the playoffs at all. It must be the casual fans packing in or I just surround myself with my own "bubble" of people. Same for me. I barely watched this year and most of my good friends who are big basketball fans barely tuned in as well.

Just a horrible NBA season and there is no reason to expect next year to be any different. My NBA interest is at an all time low (even lower than the dreadful stretch in the middle of the 2000s).
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) If they are really sold on the player and can reallocate the draft allotment to get harder to sign premier talent in later rounds, its totally a viable strategy. Happens every year with certain teams. The Braves do it often. Did it with Ian Anderson last year I believe. And when you have an extra high pick like the Rays do this year (or the Braves did last year) with their Comp Round A pick that is probably when it makes most sense.

Worst NBA season ever. Other than Westbrook looking for the triple double average not a single interesting thing all year and those are the least competitive playoffs ever.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 17, 2017 -> 09:49 AM) So here's going to be my offseason thing. I have no idea how value works out. But, I'd like Bulls to keep butler and do whatever they can to get Sacramentos #5 pick. I think there will be great value there. You may ask what they give up. I really don't have an answer there. I doubt it's possible. but i hope it is. Sacramento is an incredibly dumb organization but the Bulls really have nothing of value to trade other than Butler.

Really too bad Leonard got injured last night. The Spurs were absolutely destroying Golden State when he went down. If he isn't himself the rest of the series the Warriors will have had one of the easiest runs to the finals imaginable.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 10, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) Who they hell did you want me to vote for? Hillary? Cmon. Trump? Cmon. So I wrote somebody in. That's my right as an American too if they give me these kind of candidates. My selection would have a good health care plan. I will take a lie detector test to prove myself if that's what you all want. You pay for the test and I get 1,000 dollars if I pass the test. No one is denying that you have the right to make stupid decisions.

The playoffs the last two years have been absolutely atrocious. Nothing but blowouts all over the place. People seem to forget about it because of having a great Game 7 of the NBA finals and Games 6 and 7 of the Western Conference finals being pretty good but there were very few competitive games last year. Even in the final that went 7 only game 7 was watchable.

I'm still hoping for Chuck Martin and there is no way we should let South Carolina outbid us but if Chin Coleman is the third assistant I hope his job security is tied to landing Dosunmu. I'm sick of having a "Chicago guy" on staff who brings basically nothing to the table other than trying to appease Chicago when we still don't land any of the top players from the city. Land Dosunmu or hit the road. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) Sure, but the top 10 schools that produce NBA players are all blue bloods. And if you see that, the TV schedule and the top notch coaches as a recruit its not hard to swing that way. Iron sharpens iron and playing every day for a marquee program appears to increase your odds of making the NBA. At least thats the sell job. Of course that is how it is sold, I'm not arguing otherwise. Those programs produce the most NBA talent because they get the most NBA level talent. You or I could have coached guys like Towns, Rose, Anthony Davis, etc. to be top 5 NBA draft picks. Hell, Johnny Jones probably isn't a better coach than people on this board and Ben Simmons still went #1 playing for him. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) Listen, not trying to dance on your tears. It was really disappointing when mizzou thought we legit may have shots at Tatum or blakeney or whomever. But, that paragraph is nonsense. Tilmon's principal is Martin's sister. ANd there is a huge difference in playing for Martin at Cal, 1000 miles from home, and playing for him at Missouri, where his folks could watch him play and ESL is all rooting for him. But the much bigger factor is that with Porter at Missouri every NBA scout will be watching every game - a draw usually reserved for kansas, duke, kentucky, unc. But there's also no guarantee Missouri gets him. This may very be from him seeing Smith suddenly getting recruited by blue bloods and him getting cold feet that he decided too early. If it is Missouri and it happens quickly he is picking to play at a school where he had very little relationship with the head coach. I pretty much guarantee he isn't asking for his release because he simply wants to play for Cuonzo Martin. And this recruitment has been dirty from the beginning including when Illinois won it. Whatever school wins this recruitment is doing it by being in the mud, this shouldn't bother you, no good programs in college basketball are clean (except for maybe Wisconsin because Bo Ryan was just that f***ing good of a coach). But that is what is happening. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) There are certainly other examples, but hedging your bets and going to a blue blood isnt a terrible idea. I could also give tons of examples of kids who were super highly rated who would have been better off not playing at a blue blood for exposure. Look at Chase Jeter and Marques Bolden who were both 5* kids now transferring out of Duke this year. Or look at Cliff Alexander actually who played limited minutes at Kansas his one year there and then leapt to the NBA anyways and wasn't drafted. He very well could have been much better off getting to play 25-30 minutes a game at Illinois or a similar program (well probably not Illinois with Groce) then he was at Kansas in terms of exposure. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) No, money and gifts happen in recruiting. But Illini fans have a particular corner covered where only they lose out recruits to higher offers exclusively. It can't be fickle teenage minds, coach guidance, coaching changes, parental advice, no...it's always they got a bag of money. Because Illinois of course has no rich boosters. If he goes to Missouri, it's because our unbelievable booster class offered him more. I'm sure it is much more likely he decided out of the blue he wanted to play for a coach that he showed zero interest in at his prior job. And if you think this recruitment is clean now or has ever been clean you are kidding yourself. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) Let's see...you are going to be a one and done, where do you go? Kentucky? Duke? North Carolina? Kansas? Illinois? They really never had much a shot at Cliff in reality. If your plan is one season, you need as much exposure as possible, going 9-9 in the Big Ten and playing in the NIT doesn't do it. Back in the Flying Illini days, you probably land this type of guy. Not now. That really isn't true at all. Markelle Fultz is going to be a top 3 pick after playing on a horrendous team. Washington was terrible the year before and they had two kids who were one and dones and played in the tourney. Ben Simmons didn't make the NCAA tournament. A kid playing in the Big 10 that is good enough to be a one and done will be regardless of the school he is at. The real reason not to play at Illinois the last several years is that Weber is a mediocre coach and a terrible recruiter and Groce sucks. And Tilmon isn't a 1 and done level talent (although he may think he is).
