Stop the US-Israeli War rally in S.F.
LowerCaseRepublican replied to EvilMonkey's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) You have to love the irony in that because it's LCRs poor, helpless Muslims who want to massacre and liquidate the Jews. Yeah, cuz there's no innocent Palestinians living in the area at all, right? Nuance called. Want you to pick up the phone and acknowledge them in specific situations. -
Just got back. On a scale of 10, I give it a 87324987247326472434. So amazing. It wasn't cinematic genius on an art film level but just a great popcorn and soda having action Hollywood blockbuster that was different in the fact that it involved the fans in the sculpting of the film. It was genuinely entertaining and a whole lot of fun to watch. They offered Snakes on a Plane with Sam Jackson and you definitely get snakes on a plane with Sam Jackson.

Seeing it tonight at 9 pm. I can't wait! I told my staff about it today at the meeting -- the superintendant said he wants to see it along with the associate principal.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 17, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) I have a lot of friends that actually want to see this crap.... and I just dont know whats wrong w/ the world now.... It's a cult film with a title that will either enthrall you with entertainment value or not. There's no middle ground about the film. Not everybody likes Army of Darkness or other cult films like that. It's a niche film and I think it is going to do very well for a niche film.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) FWIW, I saw on a couple of the wrestling websites that Hogan has complete creative control during this agreement, so whatever happens he'll have to sign off Hogan has total creative control over his character so he gets to basically have a lot of meaningful input in any feud. And from what I've heard about the McMahon DVD, Vinny Mac wanted to push an incest angle where he was the father of Steph's baby. Luckily, Steph had taste and made a decision of "Hell no." Also, they're getting rid of Amish Roadkill and supposedly going to call him "Braddock" and dress him up in generic black tights. Alright, this is one of the last straws in killing off one of my favorite gimmicks, Vince. CHICKENS! -

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 15, 2006 -> 06:35 AM) I agree about Foley/Flair. I think Foley's promos slipped a notch when he had to start including Flair in the back-and-forth, and then the rushed acceptance of Flair's challenge, when Foley had repeatedly said no to it, also hurt the buildup IMO. If they had Flair do something to embarrass or enrage Foley into accepting, that would be OK, but it was just like "NO REMATCH!!" "Aww, c'mon!" "OKAY!" and that hurt the storyline in my book. It takes a LOT for me to root for RKOverrated, but I too am hoping that somehow Hogan agrees to lay down for Orton. Seriously doubt it, though, unless there's some interference/shenanigans involved. Chavo/Rey MIGHT be a decent match, but Summerslam doesn't look like anything worth buying, or even YouTubing. Interference or shenanigans is the only way that Orton can hit the rKo. His match spotlist is thus: Armbar Armbar Punch Chinlock Chinlock Drop kick Distraction rKo I seriously doubt Hogan is going to lay down for Orton. Granted Hogan already jobbed to a couch but there's no way he'll put over anybody cleanly. Hogan could barely get into the ring yesterday and then couldn't get the big boot up on the Fake Hogan. Time to retire and keep media pimping your daughter, Hulk. The only thing I may Youtube is the Foley/Flair "I Quit" match. But then again, I'm thinking that WWE creative is going to be, well, creative in the booking. -

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) I FWD through the show. The set up for Foley/Flair is one of the best set ups for a match WWE has had in a long time. No idea what to expect Sunday. I'm rooting for Orton against the One Legged Fossil. The Foley/Flair setup was really good in the early weeks but it has seemed (at least to me) that have taken a few pegs down since its inception. Foley's promos seemed to have been less quality and I really don't need to see Flair elbow dropping inanimate objects. That said though, it is going to be one of the few good matches on the PPV. There's not that much on the card that looks really interesting. -

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) Anyone see Hogan beat up the Imposter Hogan tonight? Imposter obviously never ran the ropes before and had no idea what to do. Looked bad. Real Hogan could barely slide into the ring. It would look really for Orton if he lost, but who knows. I think the match will be what we expect. Yeah, that last spot was horrendous...but not really as horrendous as the rest of that show. Honestly, the only fun thing was the Umaga squash of the jobber and even that was boring. Twas a pretty lackluster Raw. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) there aren't many details at this time. http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews....=rss&rpc=22 Jeez, they never get Geraldo. -
QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) My advice is the same as some of the others' - just go about your business. Hang with friends, get ready for school, do whatever you normally would. Just don't wait for a breakup call. Go out with her and see how she acts around you. If you can deal with her, then just keep hanging with her. If she's making you uncomfortable, then maybe you should break it off yourself. It could be that she's acting weird to try to get you to break it off anyway. So just don't let it dominate your thoughts. Again, you're waaaaaaay too young to be stressing a girl. You're going to meet so many more girls you'll be interested in, it's a total waste of time to give yourself headaches over this one. Critic, it's almost always a total waste of time to give yourself headaches over a girl.

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 11:49 PM) hell yea that chick is fine.... Well the call came and she basically lied saying everything was ok, i asked if she promised, she said yea... I could tell she was lieing.... i really wanna talk in person but i doubt it happens because she wont have the balls to tell me in person... its gonna all come out on the phone tomorrow.... things i should say and more advice is appreciated. Just dump her first and cut her out (preferably in person instead of impersonal BS on the phone). Enjoy the Sox having the 3 game swing in the division race and the Tigers looking to implode. Keep it short, curt and to the point.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) Heel Christian >>>>>>>>> Face Christian. And if that Nash thing is a work, that's just sad. Kev needs to think up his own bits and stop trying to take the rub off stuff happening in the E. Heel Christian is so much better...because that's...how he rolls. This Sabin/Nash X Division thing is being booked somewhat well. I think in the end that if this injury was part of furthering the angle with Sabin and iif Nash does the job, it'll make Sabin look a lot stronger. I dunno how much of it had to do with ribbing Hogan but it can also work in furthering the Sabin feud since he'll have taken down Paparazzi Productions (one of the great stables) -

Christian Cage heel turn! Guitar shot to Surfer Sting in the Crow Getup to allow Jarrett to retain. From most accounts, TNA put on a decent show despite the fire evacuation. -

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) Well, Nash is due for another injury... Speaking of cursed... TNA Hard Justice PPV had to stop early and be evacuated by firefighters for 20+ minutes due to a pyro fire in the building. They had to evac the whole building. They are just having wrestlers cut promos as the firefighters are doing their best to get them back into the building to finish up the PPV. -
QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 07:30 PM) I gotta agree with dasox24. After being in a relationship for a couple years, it kinds feels nice to have that "open" feeling and really have no idea what the hell is going to happen next. I can't wait to get back to school man, Speaking of getting back to school, if you're watching some Sox games during the year at a pub/tavern in CU, PM me. I'm staying in Urbana for the year (got a job in Rantoul) and am looking for some more drinking buddies since most of mine yuppified and moved to the north suburbs/Chicago.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) http://encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/Godwin's_Law Yeah I know what Godwin's Law says but the Nazi allusion is warranted in this case with the IDF saying they need to learn the effective military tactics used by the Nazis in the Warsaw ghetto. It's one thing to say that their systematic quasi-apartheid state is Nazism (that's a whole other can of worms) but when the IDF clearly says they want to act like the Nazi war machine did in the Warsaw ghettos, it's pretty clear and a logical step to say that they are acting as Nazis. -

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) Oh, I get it. The opinions of a couple dozen-odd anti-Israel (and sometimes obviously anti-Semite) protesters is unrepresentative and unfair. But your quote from one Israel-hating Jew writing in 2002 is cogent, insightful, and relevant. Thanks for your balance on this, LCR. Actually when the IDF states they need to learn military tactics from those used in the Warsaw ghetto, I'd say its somewhat clear that they're acting like Nazis. That's my point -- if the state of Israel would like to have the allegations of acting like Nazis levied at them, then they should simply stop acting in the fashion of the Nazis. Finkelstein's piece cited the newspaper source quoting the IDF on that -- hence bringing it to the discussion. But the IDF officers don't represent the IDF, right? And you're welcome for my balance on the issue. Objectivity is a complete myth. -

In TNA-land, Nash said he "injured his neck" and can't wrestle Sabin at the PPV tonight. I'm believing this is a work and a rib on Hogan but with Nash's aversion to the job, it could be a "legit" injury. I really like Paparazzi Productions but if Nash is doing this just so he doesn't have to job, that's pretty asinine. If its an angle, it could be effective if successfully booked the right way. -
QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) I hate to be this blunt about it, but if someone wants out of a relationship there's not much you can do about it. Since she's done this before, she probably thinks she can use you as a backup plan if things don't work out with the next one. My advice? You're too young for this crap. Let her break it off and move on. Preach on, my brother! Testify! ::begins swaying arms in the air and speaking in tongues:: But seriously, like Critic said -- you're too young for this crap. Break it off and move on. Honestly, she's running roughshod over you because you're letting her. You're her Plan B and it's pretty obvious that there's a lopsided scale of respect here (you really respect her and she doesn't seem to care all that much about you) It is difficult if not impossible to be good friends with an ex-girlfiend. If she breaks it off with you, just say "Okay, whatever." and hang up. If you're lucky, she'll say something hilarious (many of my ex's have like "We can't date anymore because if you hang out with a person after dark, it implies you're having sex with that person") to make the pill easier to swallow. Yeah, its going to suck in the immediate aftermath of it but you're going to be much better off getting this girl out of your life.

Ah, the usage of a few selected photos as a means of dismissing those who are knowledgeable about the topic and have logical, cogent reasons for being against it. I'm not saying that you're doing that EvilMonkey -- it just gets tiring with the "OMG! Teh Bolsheviks!" sign and then using that to dismiss an entire movement. It's just like "OMG! Arnold's dad was a Nazi so he must be one too!" You're not going to get much love from me for ANSWER. One of my favorite sites is: http://www.authoritarianopportunistswhocoz...s-forpeace.org/ And with the Nazi references, here's a piece from Norman Finkelstein (prof. at DePaul, parents were concentration camp victims) "To repress Palestinian resistance, a senior Israeli officer earlier this year urged the army to "analyze and internalize the lessons of…how the German army fought in the Warsaw ghetto." (Haaretz, 25 January 2002, 1 February 2002) Judging by the recent Israeli carnage in the West Bank - the targeting of Palestinian ambulances and medical personnel, the targeting of journalists, the killing of Palestinian children "for sport" (Chris Hedges, New York Times former Cairo bureau chief), the rounding up, handcuffing and blindfolding of all Palestinian males between the ages 15 and 50, and affixing of numbers on their wrists, the indiscriminate torture of Palestinian detainees, the denial of food, water, electricity, and medical assistance to the Palestinian civilian population, the indiscriminate air assaults on Palestinian neighborhoods, the use of Palestinian civilians as human shields, the bulldozing of Palestinian homes with the occupants huddled inside - it appears that the Israeli army is following the officer's advice. Dismissing all criticism as motivated by anti-Semitism, Elie Wiesel - chief spokesman for the Holocaust Industry - lent unconditional support to Israel, stressing the "great pain and anguish" endured by its rampaging army. (Reuters, 11 April; CNN, 14 April) Meanwhile, the Portuguese Nobel laureate in literature, Jose Saramago, invoked the "spirit of Auschwitz" in depicting the horrors inflicted by Israel, while a Belgian parliamentarian avowed that Israel was "making a concentration camp out of the West Bank." (The Observer, 7 April 2002) Israelis across the political spectrum recoil in outrage at such comparisons. Yet, if Israelis don't want to stand accused of being Nazis they should simply stop acting like Nazis." -

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) Thank you!!! I was picked on quite a bit from 6th to 8th grade, but always had my parents there to explain the behaviors as well as help to cheer me up. Had that not been the case, I do not doubt that I would have done something stupid just because I would have had so much pent up rage and sadness. Instead, I dealt with it and by the time I got to high school I learned to shrug it off and get involved in activities and with people that didn't give me problems. I ended up haveing a very successful high school and college career because of my parents guiding me through that tough time. I concur. Same thing happened with me. Small town and I wasn't a jock so I took spiff from them (including the gym teacher whom in 8th grade I busted for making us run suicides and then lying about it to all of our parents at the meet the teacher night -- I mysteriously got A's for the rest of the year in gym after getting B's from 6th grade until then despite academics being 90% of our grade on which I had perfect mastery) To get away from that frying pan, I went to a private high school -- after which I had a disdain for lots of upper-middle class suburbanites who were so entirely vapid/shallow/racist/insane. Yeah, the feelings sucked during junior high and I too had a lot of anger. But parents helped to channel it and during college, I really got into jokes (writing and performing them) as an outlet. Nothing like letting somebody have it with a zinger because they can't really parade to their friends that they beat up a 155 lb. wirey guy with one good eye for talking some s*** -- especially when everybody else is trying to stifle their laughs so they can appear to be 'outraged' at such sharp criticism. Plus, it allows to diffuse a lot of the stress anger etc. from situations through being able to laugh about it. If anything, they've just made me more driven to do whatever I decide to shoot for.
