http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article...sp&c_id=mlb CHICAGO -- A tearful Derrek Lee said he will not play for the rest of the season with the Chicago Cubs so he can be with his 3-year-old daughter, Jada, who has lost vision in one eye. "We've had a family emergency," Lee said Sunday before the Cubs' game against the Cincinnati Reds. "I want to start off by saying it has to do with our daughter." Lee then paused to regain his composure. "Until we get it cleared up, I won't be with the team," Lee said. "My daughter's lost some vision in one eye. Until we find out more -- right now we have to go through some more tests. "We just ask for everyone's prayers," Lee said. "We need a miracle. We need your prayers. We need everyone to believe she's going to be OK." -- What a tragedy, even if he does play for the Northside rivals. Here's to hoping that she's alright and regains her vision.

New Jack was arrested at the old ECW Arena because a clerk and he got into it after he received a 7 Up instead of a Sprite. I also saw this question on another board and had to ask... Better heel: Mr. Perfect or Rick Rude? -

QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 12, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) If there is any mercy in the world, it'll end at the Unforgiven PPV. Hey, anybody see that "The Ratings Killer", Randy O, got failed another drug test (pot) by Vince again? But it's not going to lead to a suspension, he's just going to get docked some pay. I guess his "punishment" is that he still has to work PPVs and Raw, but all he'll get paid for a couple months is expense money. No PPV buyrate bonus, no regular salary. It's "sort of" a punishment, certainly better than a paid suspension, but it still doesn't seem too harsh. The wellness policy got changed -- failed tests mean that they just get docked pay and don't get taken off the road. And dear god, that main event from Raw -- botches galore. Backcracker, the plancha off Carlito's back by Hardy, Carlito falling through the ropes trying the springboard elbow...::shudder:: -
Day to remember but must watch for it so it isn't crassly commercialized via mass marketing.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 04:55 PM) Thought I'd bring this back with a Stanley Kubrick quote: "I think the big mistake in schools is trying to teach children anything, and by using fear as the basic motivation. Fear of getting failing grades, fear of not staying with your class, etc. Interest can produce learning on a scale compared to fear as a nuclear explosion to a firecracker." Can anyone disagree with that? Yeah but it is a quote from somebody who isn't a teacher. Fear of doing things that are improper is a part of society (i.e. I'm not going to kill the dumb motherf***er who cut me off because I'd go to prison for a long time) and has a part in schools. Interest and making the material interesting does a great deal for classroom management but management via discipline tactics does have its definite and correct place in schools, especially in schools where the parents have not instilled the greatest values towards behavior either due to lack of involvement in their lives by choice or working to put a roof over their heads/food on the table etc.

Alex Sanchez etc. took steroids because they help increase fast twitch muscles which helps with hand-eye coordination, bat speed, speed, etc. Steroids are not all about power hitting -- which is a common misconception regarding anabolic steroids.

QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) I wish WWE could get old time guys to start doing writing. Back in the day, their were no writers. All the wrestlers did their own things with some input. Most of these guys they have are failed TV and movie writers who are fat and have no idea about wrestling history or psychology. You mean they don't have lights out matches and use ketchup to bleed during matches? -

Seems Matt Striker had a force fed line "There's a reason you'll never see a man of my intellect swimming with stingrays" and then clutching his heart on the recent ECW show. Brian Gewirtz, that WWE creative writing genius was the one who developed the line, not Striker. It was followed by being approved by Vinny Mac. I'm not sure that the E should have necessarily apologized for it. Joel Gertner (who I dearly miss in the new ECW) was famous for his risque speeches like being harder than the tree that hit Sonny Bono. But Gewirtz is still a f***ing idiot because the line was just canned heat for Striker who was already a legit heel getting a reaction from the crowd. Plus, it didn't make the most sense for Striker's character to be the one saying that. If they had Gertner or a Gertner equivalent, they probably could have made the line cringingly darkly funny. But alas, they just force fed it to Striker and demanded he say it for no good reason. -

Big Show/McMahon promo to sell the DX/Show ECW match. I don't mind that it takes up a bit of the show now because they gave a few matches and didn't have it dominate the show. I just wonder how, when DX takes out all the security, how are we supposed to buy that 3 guys can pose a threat? Well, then again, we've got a guy who has a cannonball for a head, skillets for hands, arms as big as legs and legs as big as people against DX. More paint drying shown for Cade and Murdoch...and yes, my personal favorite funny tag team -- Haas and Viscera! "Oh they can explain...but they won't!"...Decent triple threat tag match. Maria and Ric Flair kissing segment -- this is quickly going downhill...but Armando Alejandro Essssssssstrada (marks out like an overweight girl for Jeff Hardy) comes to save the day! This guy is so goddamn awesome saying exactly what I'm thinking "Flair, nobody cares what you have to say." Good advancement of the Kane/Umaga feud without making either of them look too weak. This Cryme Tyme promo was absolutely moronic. Not funny in the slightest. It was like a nature documentary over a lame robbery -- oh I get it, mainstream America doesn't understand the lingo, mannerisms and linguistics of inner city blacks. Carlos Mencia demands his material be returned to him. Main event seems like some lazy booking (Edge/Orton/Lita vs Cena/Carlito/Trish). Trish got rKo'ed -- hilarious. Entertaining match and capped off the evening nicely. Who else is worried about the TLC match being a singles match? The previous were so entertaining because of the multiple bodies to pull off a lot of spots. The spots are going to have to be fantastic in the match to make it entertaining or they both just throw kayfabe and selling out the window and just go through tables, take a ton of chair shots etc. without fear. -

This Raw is entertaining... Making fun of their own product with paint references. Jeff Hardy saying the IC champ Milena and her in-ring muscle Nitro was like watching paint dry. Hardy/Nitro was a good TV match with a poor end but sets up the feud for the PPV. Somebody with a pulse get the strap off of the Squirrel Ghost Faced Killa, Nitro. When Masters was cutting a promo, a flash to Maria watching paint dry...Masters look so much smaller now since he's come back. I'm not sure I'm buying the full nelson as much with him being so much smaller. Super Crazy is now on the A show! (granted with some terrible music that includes a lawnmower and weedwhacker noises) But still, Raw is Super Crazy! And he beat Masters in his first match! Can we be watching a Super Crazy push in the midst? An hour into the show and no DX/McMahons on the screen for idiotic promos outside of what happened last week in a brief vignette? Holy crap -- this is gorgeous. ... One hour down and one more to go. But really a solid program so far from an entertainment standpoint given the WWE's current product. -
Flaxx is like King of the ST Zappa fans. He may very well be going.

RIP That really sucks. Did he try to stick his thumb up the stingray's butt? /south.park.

The kid who got injured has brain damage. What's the judge's excuse? But as Daria said so succinctly: "Remember, it's not how hard you study. It's how hard you play football." This story is bringing back years of old nerd rage with this vapid crap. Softheaded Moron Jock 1: Hey I got an idea. Other Softheaded Moron Jocks: What? Softheaded Moron Jock 1: Let's put a fake deer on a tree and watch people swerve out of the way. Others: Wow, that is so much fun. What great entertainment for ignorant jackasses who have brain trauma from running into other grown morons who'll be flipping burgers in a few years. ...f***ing mouthbreathing jackasses stealing precious oxygen from other people who actually have a reason to be on the planet. Then again, maybe the Rock could turn them into a Gridiron Gang? -

http://www.kurtanglewwe.com/letter.pdf Kurt Angle's letter to his fans. In one match against RVD recently he: -pulls his groin -strains the abdomen off the pelvic bone -blew out his hamstring He kept going and finished the match. Thank you Angle *clap clap clapclapclap* -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) I'm OK with pretty much all of that, except for the "suggestions" as to targets and tactics. That is active promotion of a dangerous activity, not to mention engineering an act for the subjects to follow. That was too far. Otherwise, as far as getting equipment they sought, I'd say that is part of the role. IIRC, in the 93 WTC bombings, the FBI had an informant in there who was promoting the building to bomb, where, how to bomb it, when etc. The FBI even gave them real explosives instead of dummy stuff and knew the date where the bombing would occur but felt the intelligence gained by keeping the guy in would outweigh the deaths at the WTC. http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/RANCHO/P...OK/wtcbomb.html And this story was also printed in the Chicago Tribune so we can avoid the NY Slime crap from muddying up the thread.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) Actually, with all the alumni money they might lose out on, it could hurt the athletic program. Pretty logical. If an alum refuses to give money because of the mascot, they're a f***ing idiot. I'm not going to help the school because they got rid of something that has nothing to do with academics or their success in sports! Yep, that sounds so brilliant of them. Youppi for UIUC mascot! The Chief is of a time but Youppi! is timeless. ROTFLMAO. Yes, changing a mascot would make us lose home field advantage and hurt recruiting..suuuuuuuuuuuure. Then again, nothing can really help the Illini football teams. -
I wake up at 5 am (I usually used to wake up at 6 for work) and get in an hour/hour and a half of exercise before showering/getting ready for work every day during the week and 8 am on Saturday. I get to work a bit early to get some stuff done with the extra time which works out both professionally and keeping my body together. Plus, my job allows us two hours after school in the weight room if we want to use it during the school week. It's amazing some of the stuff I hear though when I'm eating fruit, drinking water and having a wheat bread sandwich with fresh meat/veggies as if it is something completely out there.

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 07:17 PM) I like the idea of Cena back on SD. Maybe make him a heel again since they have top faces already. What he lacks in ring skills, he more than makes up with his mic work. I love it when guys get a gimic and role with it. A la Eugene back in 04. I got back just in time to watch Striker. I love today. w00t! Striker is so damn awesome on the stick and really lives his gimmick to this awesome extent. He can go in the ring. He's no Rick Rude, Arn Anderson etc. but he's not a slouch and his finisher looks like it hurts instead of the over-rated fireman's carry. The main event was a clusterf***. The enforcers and the Big Show followed by RVD taking them out while ignoring Sabu (then why did he skateboard the chair at Sabu in the match between Kurt Angle and Sabu?) It was pretty stupid. We get it. Heyman is a scumbag who lies. No more main events to promote the same fact. And I don't need DX/McMahons bleeding through to ECW. No thanks, please. -

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=2368057 And I love the part where HUD said the speech was cruel. Gee, perhaps outpricing people from being able to move back to their home area due to increased costs for building homes and trying to make a (pardon the inappropriateness) killing on profits might be just a bit more cruel than the Yes Men spoofing their asinine policy.

Instead of watching Raw last night, I watched the 2006 TNA Against All Odds PPV on DVD. Not the greatest show but solidly entertaining. Abyss's bump through the tables off the bleachers was pretty cool. The Joe/Daniels/AJ match was solid as always. And of course, dear God, was it beautiful to see Jarrett do the job. That said, it was so much more solid than WWE programming. Cuz Vince, can I have one more 'You Love Roosters' joke? I haven't gotten enough of it the 27837498274983748924734 times you've used it previously! But the best part of Raw is that Cena could get relegated to SmackDown if he loses the TLC match at Unforgiven against Edge. I'm getting tired of the Edge/Cena match (how the Hell does Cena get like ten bazillion title shots?) but it will be entirely worth it if they take Cena off the A show. Ah well, I just hope "Our Teacher" Matt Striker is on ECW tonight because I am so entertained by this gimmick. He is so hilarious.
