  1. QUOTE(minors @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) Oh come on he is not sick, If we keep making these expections no body would be in jail. We need to stop being so soft on criminals and stop coddling these thugs like some people want to do. But I guess if the women who killed her 5 kids used that as an excuse I am sure it work for him as well. Hell yeah! Who needs psychologists and psychiatrists with empirical evidence of post-partum depression, genetic predisposition to being schizophrenic, hearing voices, severely delusional thoughts and voices and other mental disorders! We need to execute more and more people instead of using logic to find out all the necessary facts to see if compassion and mercy should be extolled. Hard time in a prison and/or executing her isn't and wasn't going to cure Andrea Yates of her severe depression and schizophrenia -- or make us safer. She can be safely institutionalized where she gets the help she needs and will spend her life in an asylum. The total lack of facts, logic, rational thinking and reason to utter the statements that insane asylums are "coddling" is mindblowing to me. But then again I'm sure there is a cabal of leftist liberals who sit around doing field tests and empirical research just to get criminals off rather than exploring the brain and how it works, especially in cases of mental diseases and disorders. Sorry for the vitriol but what you said was one of the most crass, insensitive and, quite frankly, asinine things I've ever heard uttered.
  2. I :wub Colt Cabana and ROH. This is a hysterical promo. I marked out so hard laughing for the last one on Colt's list.
  3. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) That Russian heiress is frightening. Looks about twice her posted age of 21. Yikes. Hey, she's always got a career as a body double for the Cryptkeeper.
  4. QUOTE(samclemens @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) and thats different from 99% of all politicians how? Some (like Arpaio) have better and more effective PR machines than others is the substantially real difference.
  5. QUOTE(minors @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) Now why would a state actually vote against a 3 term senator who has done so much for his state. Hopefully this splits the party and the republican wins. It wouldn't take much when you have 3 candidates and it is splitting one parties votes. If the libs were smart they would unite behind on candidate. The state is voting against him because they have grown upset with his policies on certain issues. That's why Lieberman is getting his ass whipped like a government mule in the primary. It's probably too much to ask for his staff to look and see: "Holy crap, the people of CT really don't like us running this year." But rather we'll get the: "Who cares about the people of CT? I gots my ego to feed! It's Joementum time!"
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) Seems like Randy Orton is doing a hell of a job by making you guys hate him. If you hate him because he uses a head lock every once in awhile, that's shame. Just because he doesn't do high spot after high spot, doesn't make him a bad wrestler. They guy has ring psychology mastered and knows how to sell moves. Say what you want about his mic work, but I think he does a good job. He has that heel tone down pat. And don't reference the horrible Orton Knows Best segment this past Monday. I doubt he had much input into it. Maybe more people would like him if he fell onto some lightbulbs and jumped off a roof through a table. The fact is he doesn't need to do that stuff to get over. Where is TRU to have my back? Orton gets Conway heat from me. He's got athleticism and talent but he hasn't shown more/improvement since he came in to the 'E. He's content to cruise along -- mainly because of the push he was given before earning his stripes. I'm a big fan of technical wrestling (Misawa vs Kawada, Joe vs Kobashi, anyone?) but Orton is just a bore. Side headlock, chin lock, chin lock, side headlock...zzzz. The buildup to a high spot is necessary and good but then the high spot needs to come, not some cheap knockoff of the Diamond Cutter. Joe and Kobashi made a three minute fest of knife edge chops edge of your seat entertainment. His mic skills are of no help. Heels need excellent mic skills or a manager with excellent skills on the stick -- so we fans can get pulled in to legitimately not liking the heel and feeling involved in the storyline. He always seems disinterested in his storylines/angles. If he can't get into it, then why should I? Orton gets little to no live real heel heat. He gets the "Oh, it's an Orton segment. Time to go pee and get some popcorn." heat. His only fans in the crowd seem to be teenage girls who think he is "hawt". He's got the tools to put together a decent heel run. He just hasn't for reasons of either not knowing how to do it effectively or simply not wanting to do so since he's getting pushed anyway.
  7. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 01:40 AM) woe is me. Yeah, Randy Resthold vs the man with all the speed of a tectonic plate and whose skin is so leathery it could be used to make luggage after his death. We're really missing out on a classic And it isn't like Hogan was going to put him over. It was just a dumb feud so Brooke could get more PR for her stupid album. Somebody get Hogan a grill or something else to shill so he can stay the Hell off my TV set. To paraphrase the great Jim Cornette: Hogan, you're an everyday household word. But so is garbage and it stinks too when it gets old. Plus, some of the legends Randy gets credit for "killing" aren't all his credit. Jake Roberts -- Sorry, Randy. Illegal drugs, lots of booze, a dangerously stiff guitar shot to the neck by the Honky Tonk Man and Vince McMahon killing a feud against Hogan for the strap because Jake got cheers did a lot more to kill his career than rKo ever dream. Sgt. Slaughter -- Wow, he took out a retired road agent! Age had more to do with that than anything. Kamala -- Now, there's a real notch in the belt. Foley -- Gee, Foley is still on TV and still as popular as ever. Mission failed. Harley Race -- Wow, you hocked a loogey at him. I don't think that killed the legend of one of the best wrestlers in the biz. Roddy Piper -- Booze and Father Time have done more to that man than Randy did. Jerry Lawler -- I'd be impressed if somebody smacked the King firmly and strongly. Unfortunately some fifteen year old girls did it to him without pants just last week so again Randy's actions take a back seat. Ric Flair -- Alright, that's impressive in the cage. But seeing how Flair is still intensely popular, I don't think he did a good job at killing the legend.
  8. QUOTE(minors @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 12:54 AM) Please let me know when you have a close friend murdered and having to deal with that thug gloat about it. Then seeing him die was a good feeling. That crime occured in the late 80's so he would have recieved parole in a couple of years that is why I like the Death Penalty and no one will convince me otherwise. Now that is truely sad we should give a murderer/rapist the same amount of attention as the baby they killed. Uh, according to the offender information on the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice, the crime took place 2/4/1997 -- not the late 1980s. Just a decade off. Plus, the jury was given an option of life without parole which meant he wasn't getting parole. http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/stat/wyattwilliam.htm And Nuke, Minors -- thanks for telling me who I do and don't feel sorry for. I can feel sympathy for both victim and perpetrator here, especially when the perp is killed because an eye for an eye simply makes the world blind. What happened to the victim is a terrible offense but killing the perp doesn't make it "justice" -- it just satisfies primal, vigilantist bloodlust. It's just a cheap, tawdry, sleazy and underhanded talking point to say that "leftists" don't care about the victims when we both know it isn't true.
  9. QUOTE(minors @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) I am just glad he is dead I'm always amazed at the morbid nature of human beings. If our country is so great then it should be able to extend a greater sense of mercy and compassion than what was doled out by this prisoner to his victim. There's nothing that a person can do to rid themselves of their essential humanity to deserve being killed. We as a people choose to take it from them. Seeing that, I'm stuck on how the 372nd execution in TX since 1982 really was 'justice', saved taxpayer money or how anybody feels safer or even feels a moral superiority to the crime he committed because this guy with no prior criminal record and an honorable discharge from the Marines was executed in a sterile holding area at a Texas prison in an act of revenge and court sanctioned murder -- much less how any person can gloat over another's death.
  10. Yay! Hooray! The state showed that killing is morally bankrupt by doing it themselves! w00t w00t! That'll really go to show a point that the taking of a life is wrong. Texas is totally ending that cycle of violence by continually participating in it! /waits for more people cheerleading the deaths of human beings because it shows the heinousness of character more than a well-reasoned debate about the death penalty ever could. //laughs at the irony that perpetrating murder is wrong yet cheerleading it is justified
  11. Hogan/Orton may not happen at SummerSlam according to WWE.com Hogan's got a cracked meniscus and may be out of action. Hogan's running from either doing the j.o.b. or from the Legend Killer Actually, that running from doing the job and passing the torch sometime in the next century may be pretty accurate.
  12. QUOTE(minors @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 05:52 PM) What I have a hard time understanding is why if he is hated by liberals, hated by conservatives and hated by the middle man why does he dominate elections Maricopa County I believe is the 4th biggest county in the US so I am sure good competition is around so why does he win so much and your one site said it would be a 8.0 is he was beat and make national news, so why if he is so hated why is it so hard to beat him? Simply -- PR and 'truthiness'. He's on TV stump-speaking on local TV, talk shows, TV shows, etc. damn near every day. That's quite a PR machine. It feels true that his harsh tactics and "no-nonsense" way of dealing with criminals works. However, it's pretty clear that studies have shown little decrease in recitivism. It's also true that his 'tent city' jail is actually for petty criminals -- many of whom haven't gone to trial yet -- meaning he's got mostly non-violent offenders there, not the hardcore, violent so called dregs of society. There's no evidence to show that his tactics work but it feels good to believe that they do because of his extensive PR campaign. Plus, he's got a cult following in Maricopa County and he pumps political propaganda through the tent jail every day (the Gingrich tapes). It's a brilliant bait and switch. He pulls out the dog and pony show to amaze you but if you move the curtain aside, the facts show it's just the tiny little man working lots of controls to make himself look so amazing.
  13. QUOTE(minors @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) I would take more points more seriously if used links that were not slewed by liberalism or just the flat hatred of him. Now if used independent sites I would take your point of view more seriously. But posting your views then backing them up with such slanted sites doesn't work for me. How about the The Arizona Conservative being opposed to Arpaio and his jackbooted tactics? http://www.azconservative.org/Durband11.htm How about the Republicans of Legislative District 22 shunning Arpaio in 2004? Or the conservative/libertarian Penn Jillette (when he raked Arpaio over the coals in an episode of their Showtime TV show dealing with the war on drugs) It isn't just liberals that are fed up with his tactics. He's getting disowned by a lot of conservatives. (And I just went for AZ so there could be no "Well, that's what those Left Coast elitist liberals think, not the conservatives of AZ!" talk) QUOTE(minors @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) So then how it is his fault for them being on the loose for a year it must have been the stupid homicide dectectives as well. You guys can't have it both ways either he had nothing to do with this thing at all or he deserves all credit/blame Brilliant false dichotomy. The homicide detectives who did the work should get the credit for making their arrests. Arpaio is good at publicity stunts and dog and pony shows, that's about it. If Arpaio appropriately focused media attention on the execution style murders (funny how execution style murders are seen as so ghastly and obscene, yet executions are cheered by some here -- but that aside) rather than his shortsighted "I'm-a put all these criminals in a tent!" policy or his "Round up all the illegal immigrants so we can all pay $20 for a head of lettuce!" policy, then they may have been captured quicker by getting the public's assistance faster. But instead we had the "Most Pompous Sheriff in the US" parade himself out there for his own glory rather than the protection of his own citizenry that he's supposed to worry about. These guys getting captured was good policework in spite of the sheriff who wouldn't know good policework if it bit him in the ass.
  14. QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) Because there's no indication in that article that he had anything to do with the arrests. We have a winnar.
  15. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) I wonder if he kicked the drug habit at all WWE wellness policy asplodes.
  16. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) Wait a minute. I thought he was a clueless incompetent who was too busy handing out bologna sandwiches and violating the constitution to do his job. He is a clueless incompetent who was too busy handing out bologna sandwiches and violating the Constitution to do his job. I'd pin credit for the collar on the work of the Homicide divisions rather than on Joe because, well, they were the ones who did all the work. From Phoenix News Times: http://phoenixnewtimes.com/Issues/current/...paio/index.html
  17. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) I'd say maybe they get a trial first. Pssh, who needs trials, the presumption of innocence and lethal injections when you can just have show trials (since we know they're already guilty) followed by taking them out in the back of the courthouse and put a slug in their head. If it can work for the Soviets, it can work for us!
  18. Wish I could help here but the only real job I've gotten (my teaching job starting in August), I was offered the position on the spot at the conclusion of the interview. Probably helps that I student taught with the teacher I was taking over for so a few teachers put in good words for me because we worked well together. Best of luck with the securing of a job, Boz.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) Alot of salty old men on this board. Roxbury was hilarious, many people in my gerneration love the movie. The 90's were funny, and Farrell's whole time there was unreal it was so funny. Yeah the old 70's had some good humor, but to each generation has its own set of jokes etc. Calling certain time periods the "glory days" really just means it was a long time ago. Between great casts there is always a lull. Its just the period afterwards which makes it worth it. Uh, Rock, I'm 23. I'm not that much of a salty old man. I'm just saying that most of the SNL produced films were total pantloads (Roxbury, Superstar, Ladies Man etc.) Will Ferrell's time on SNL was funny but I liked the humor better when Farley and Hartman were doing the same style of things. Yes, I'll agree that some sketches like Jeopardy! were funny -- but that was as much Hammond carrying the bit as Connery than anything else. Calling something the glory days doesn't necessarily mean a long time ago. It just means a time when the sketches were actually funny -- which is something SNL hasn't been since the mid-90s.
  20. Woke up, performed the 3 S's, gave myself a haircut (easy when it's just shaving one's head), went to Staples for some supplies, light breakfast, watched a little TV, did half of my workout, small dinner, watched a little more TV, finished my workout, went to the arboretum with a friend and ran suicides for about an hour. Now it's time to kick back with Brave New World and also work on some material ideas I've been bouncing around.
  21. http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/themarine....UOSj4FVOSBfVXcA God, this movie is going to be a real piece of garbage. "Meet...the one man strike force...who never does the job cleanly."
  22. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) I guess I'm in the minority here, but I really can't stand Colbert and his show. It's over-the-top tongue in cheek humor which can get grating at times, I see your point there. However, there's times where it is hilariously scathing (i.e. his interviews with Congress members like Lynn Westmoreland -- a guy who is parading the need to have the 10 Commandments everywhere because they're so important -- and Colbert asked Westmoreland to name the commandments for him. Westmoreland got 2 before admitting he didn't know them.)
  23. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) There is always good reason for rage when talking about modern SNL. That show hasn't been funny since the mid 80's and it just keeps getting worse and worse. Terrible show. That Prospector thing was stupid. "But it's a different kind of war." I think you could make a case for the early 90s (if you appreciate slapstick humor) with Farley, Spade and some of the early Ferrell/Tim Meadows work as to when it stopped being funny...with those guys being the last gasps of laughter to come out of that show. But SNL has jumped the shark. I dunno if they can do anything to get it back on track to remotely rival the hilarity of the glory days. It's become an institution and it is crumbling right now with "Night at the Roxbury was funny for about 2 minutes on the show. We gotta make a 90+ minute cinematic offering of it! It'll be gold!" mindset, the poor writing, the lack of hunger on the part of Lorne Michaels to create a quality staff that is actually funny and poor execution by the stars during the show (i.e. breaking character and laughing at every damn line)
  24. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) Anybody been following the Kevin Nash vs. X-Division angle in TNA? Great stuff in Nash's promo's and vignettes. Well done angle as well. Here is the latest vignette: I mark for Los Super Blue Cross Number 6 and Samolian Joe
  25. QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) I dare you not to laugh http://youtube.com/watch?v=oCUbF93_uNw Dare taken. God, Fallon breaks character on his first line. Everybody is breaking their composure except for Darrell Hammond. No laughs -- just a few expletives towards Fallon. /Daily Show is the new comedy mecca where up and comers come to cut their comedy teeth. The king of late night comedy is dead. Long live the king!
