Orton said in the new WWE magazine that the reason he was suspended was because somebody ratted him out for lighting up a doob backstage. Goes into him with his anger management etc. Scan of the article: http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/5592/01pa2.jpg Unfortunately for Orton, I just can't buy his heel heat and he's not too great on the stick. When you add in the impending doing the job to St. Hulk of Hogan onto his resume, I don't think he's getting too much out of his current gimmick. Sure he's athletic but he is just lacking in the charisma to get some genuine heel heat. He should take some lessons from Foley and some other classic heels on how to get over. Cuz let's face it, most of the heat he's getting now is from women saying "OMG! RANDY'S HAWT!!!!!111!11! ELEVENTY!" But on the bright side, CM Punk is debuting this week on EC-Dub! Now if the E could just get Samoa Joe BTW, anybody see/hear about CZW's Tournament of Death 5 that went down yesterday? -

I can live with this bill. I'm just more pissed about the hybridity of so many of these bills out there. It's just disgusting that they put riders in the bill that aren't on topic. It's such a perfect political ploy tool though that I see neither side getting rid of it (i.e. a bill that says "More funding for the troops but we're cutting funding/benefits for civil services" which got through a few years ago -- then when a person votes against the funding cut for civil servants, the other side can say "Well, see they don't support the troops!")

QUOTE(minors @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) And you know for a minuet I actually thought you were going to write a good post but you just couldn't resist the personal insults. Do you really think people who have been through his jails and in the 130 conditions wouldn't think twice about committing a crime. The fact is he makes being in prison tough which is what jail is suppost to be and liberals seem to think we need to coddle them because it really isn't the criminals fault it must be the victims fault. And do you really think he starves people? come on that is one of the most stupid arguments I have heard even from you. And making these thugs work in chain gangs cuts a lot of costs for the public but I guess using your logic that is embarrasing to the public and he has been reelected to at least 4 times so he must be really stupid and is embarrasing the public There were a few other administrations with stringent law and order policies making prisons harsh. I saw it on the newsreels during the 1940s/1950s. Unfortunately, I couldn't understand it because the narration was in Russian. The public (people in general) have endorsed numerous asinine things in the past -- so public support is not necessarily a justification that Arpaio's cause is morally correct. To quote the late, great Frank Zappa " The number of people who thought Hitler was right did not make him right." While it is the dream of very "tough on crime" fan, the simple fact remains that not every person in jail is a thug. I'll simply point to the thousands of non-violent drug war "criminals" in jail for simple posession due to mandatory minimum sentencing laws. Judge James P. Gray wrote a fantastic book called "Why Our Drug Laws Have Failed and What We Can Do About It" discussing the massive problem of jail overcrowding due to mandatory minimum sentences and over-criminalization of simple posession. Of course, all research and successful drug policy shows that treatment should be increased and law enforcement decreased while abolishing mandatory minimun sentences. Yet, the true thugs like Arpaio get away with such juvenile, neo-fascist and asinine humiliating tactics. Humiliation is not going to stop recitivism. Rehabilitation efforts can help to stop recitivism. I lost what little respect Arpaio had when I saw him on Penn and Teller's show "bullspiff". During their discussion on the War on Drugs, he had a major league hard-on for wanting to violate the personal freedoms and choices of any person if he didn't like what they were doing. His authority complex is his hammer to which every issue becomes a nail -- at the detriment of sanity, logic, reason, personal freedom, fundamental human dignity and the values that make America great. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) I like how self-righteous and full of yourself you are. So typical of those left of center. I was going to post something more but my irony meter just exploded after reading this. But hey, I figure one good turn of hyperbole deserves another. You got it Nuke, the ACLU wants a massive crime spree and doesn't care about the 123+ that have been exonerated from death row because they are actually innocent of the crime they were accused of. They must want a massive crime spree like we've never seen before and don't care that the vast majority of those that the state seeks the death penalty against can't afford an attorney and must have one who is court appointed (this attorney likely has not worked a capital case ever and is working multiple other cases while trying to put together a defense for the capital case -- not to mention the lack of money for defense experts to rebut/refute state testimony) I'm sure they just want to see more violence by bringing up the fact that 80% of the death penalty cases involve white victims. You know, if you actually look at things like facts, logic, reason and nuance rather than merely listening to Savage and the rest of the "OMG! Teh ACLU hates America!" bile, you might be able to figure out that they do have some quality points about the problems of the death penalty. And from Justice Blackmun in Callins v Collins, 1994 (especially for the "We can create rules to make the DP be non-arbitrary" crowd) "We hope...that the defendant whose life is at risk will be represented by...someone who is inspired by the awareness that a less-than-vigorous defense...could have fatal consequences for the defendant. We hope that the attorney will investigate all aspects of the case, follow all evidentiary and procedural rules, and appear before a judge...committed to the protection of defendants' rights... But even if we can feel confident that these actors will fulfill their roles...our collective conscience will remain uneasy. Twenty years have passed since this court declared that the death penalty must be imposed fairly and with reasonable consistency or not at all, and despite the effort of the states and courts to devise legal formulas and procedural rules to meet this...challenge, the death penalty remains fraught with arbitrariness, discrimination...and mistake... From this day forward, I no longer shall tinker with the machinery of death. For more than 20 years I have endeavored...to develop...rules that would lend more than the mere appearance of fairness to the death penalty endeavor...Rather than continue to coddle the court's delusion that the desired level of fairness has been achieved...I feel...obligated simply to concede that the death penalty experiment has failed. It is virtually self-evident to me now that no combination of procedural rules or substantive regulations ever can save the death penalty from its inherent constitutional deficiencies... Perhaps one day this court will develop procedural rules or verbal formulas that actually will provide consistency, fairness and reliability in a capital-sentencing scheme. I am not optimistic that such a day will come. I am more optimistic, though, that this court eventually will conclude that the effort to eliminate arbitrariness while preserving fairness 'in the infliction of [death] is so plainly doomed to failure that it and the death penalty must be abandoned altogether.' (Godfrey v. Georgia, 1980) I may not live to see that day, but I have faith that eventually it will arrive. The path the court has chosen lessen us all." -

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) Quick question...why is wwe.com still advertising the match as Khali vs. 'Taker? The same way they advertised Austin in the triple threat match at Survivor Series '99 and then had him "hit by a car" during the PPV so he could get his surgery and have a kayfabe excuse. William Regal rules. His gimmick is so fun and he really plays it well. It sucks that they tried giving him the "Man's Man" gimmick a few years ago. Nothing more believable than Regal crushing oranges for juice and wearing flannel and a construction helmet. -

QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) He basically said what everyone else is thinking. Vince has taken ECW and pissed all over it. We now have WWECW. It's not hardcore, it's not innovative, it's the 3rd show for the WWE. Look who the big names are: Big Show, Test, Angle, RVD, Sabu. At least RVD has an ECW connection, and well Sabu is ECW to the core. But I believe Taker and Khali just went at it on ECW as well. I haven't seen one episode of ECW, I'll admit that, but just from what I've read, I feel bad for those guys (Dreamer, Sandman, Sabu, RVD, Heyman, etc.) The diary being suspended is a work to promote the angle between he and Heyman. -

But in case you didn't understand what I meant (though I'm sure you did), I was referring to her title reigns that last over a year. And do you know what I'm talking about with the kick thing? Yeah, the "Matrish" thing is a bit unbelievable. Then again SuperCena FU'ing Big Show is also a willing suspension of disbelief, haha. Who else could they put the women's strap on though? The only three they have that have any in-ring talent are Victoria, Mickie James and Trish (who likely is leaving after her contract is up) At least when HHH had the belt, there were a group of legit contenders to carry the company. Not so much in the women's division. (Unless they bring back Harvina -- Harvey Wippleman in drag) -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) If you're talking about bad matches, note any match with Trish Stratus. I know nobody actually takes the women's division seriously, including myself, but sometimes it's hilariously bad. My favorite move is when the opponent goes to side kick her, and she does that stupid "Matrix" style backwards falling thing. The best part is that it always takes her about 15 seconds to do it, so the opponent has to actually stop and wait. Plus, Trish is the female HHH. I dunno about her being the female HHH. After all -- in Trish's defense, she's not banging one of the boss's kids. -

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) Have we forgotten the Hogan/Warrior debacle of Halloween Havoc 1998.... Speaking of Halloween Havoc, am i the only one that misses the "Spin the wheel, make the deal" matches or Battle Bowl? There's something that i'd never get tired of. Coal Miner's Glove on a Pole! Almost as good as the "Lost in Cleveland" Cactus Jack vignettes. A telling tale of how WCW could have seized a great opportunity (the powerbomb on the cement) yet dropped a major deuce. Almost as funny as when they made Paul Roma a member of the Horsemen. And perhaps the Junkyard Invitational from WCW could make an appearance here as well. Real old school: AWA Turkey on a Pole match. If we're talking bad matches from a kayfabe-break standpoint, there's the old Earthquake vs Kitao Koji when Koji broke kayfabe, got on a mic and started yelling about how everything in puroesu is staged. Or Inoki vs the Great Antonio when Inoki legit starts beating the spiff out of Antonio for no-selling/legit hitting Inoki with a forearm to the back of the head instead of the spine. And for the saving of ECW, Gregory...It isn't going to be Heyman's booking or Vince bringing back the classical ECW we all remember. It is pragmatism during the "Extreme Rules" match. They need to bring it up a notch when they go for the supposed extreme. To that effect, they need to use a certain weapon on TV. It is a weapon so potent that it was only used sparingly in one wrestling promotion. It was a weapon that brought out fear and unspeakable awe from the audience. This weapon must also be suspended on a pole because of its sheer immense power and has been in the past. This weapon...Judy Bagwell. -

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) I'll look for it on youtube or something, only because it has the potential to be the worst match of all time. They'll have to have a ton of crazy "spiff" and/or buckets of blood to mask the fact that this match features a guy on the fast track to retirement against maybe the worst wrestler of all time. And LCR, while I know you have lines like that Katie Vick one in you, I just KNEW that line was lifted from somewhere.... I'm sorry, Critic. There is almost no way that the Punjabi Prison Match can beat any of the following for worst match of all time: Dog Kennel From Hell - Al Snow v. Big Boss Man Any Jackie Gayda match HHH v. Ultimate Warrior where H Cubed got pinned in 12 seconds (and Warrior no-sold the Pedigree) Pat Patterson vs Gerald Brisco in an Evening Gown Match Anything from the card at WrestleMania IX The cage match from WCW Uncensored where Hogan and Savage took on like 9 guys and won When The Giant "fell off the top of the building" and still showed up to wrestle Hogan in WCW And besides we've seen this match before and we know who wins. Remember -- the giant brought out that Taker couldn't beat, he was off TV for a while scared that he might not win... In fact, it goes back to my WrestleMania IX comments...Just give Khali an airbrushed suit with hair and an ass on it and we'll be in a time capsule! -

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) I respectfully disagree. I think if Orton was more talented, he wouldn't need the writers as much. I just don't think he'd be in the "majors" if his name wasn't Orton. He doesn't do anything particularly well IMHO. Exactly. He has to be a heel because he can't get over as a face. He's had athletic talent but hasn't had a lot of improvement in the ring. He should feud with Foley for the title of "Master of the Side Headlock". I get so tired of Randy's restholds and pool of like 5 moves that he can do well. As for the current product -- I think that the reason the Attitude/Russo era was so good was because the wrestlers had a lot more input into their characters and what would help generate heat. Russo threw out tons of ideas and had people there to pick out the promising ones as well as throwing out the stupid ideas. The wrestlers had an aura of believability there -- that their gimmick was an extension of who they were as a person. Plus, the writers at the time knew about the business (lingo, matches, the wrestlers etc.) Vince was a major reason that Russo left. Russo has since been quoted at stating that he left because of an altercation he had with McMahon where Russo questioned the workload placed upon him (SmackDown! had just been introduced, so he had to write 4 hours of wrestling or more each week) and McMahon simply told him to "go hire a nanny", referring to the fact that Russo wanted to spend more time with his children and less time writing. The writers for WWE now have no clue about the business (i.e. asking JBL how they get the fake blood to pump out of their heads during matches and referring to dark matches as 'lights out' matches) which means they're fighting with 1 hand tied behind their back already. They don't go to the wrestlers for input about gimmicks but rather just write the show with bad sexual humor and poor story arcs because that's what they're used to in the sitcom/lame movie world. Hence we're getting a squad of male cheerleaders, Jamal from the 3 Minute Warning being re-packaged as a Somoa Joe wannabe and lots of other totally unbelievable gimmicks. Add in the cheap use of DX to get some memorabilia dollars and give HHH a reason to not go after the strap and we've got a pretty weak show. SmackDown! has such thin talent on its roster, especially with the injury to the Predator er, excuse me Mark Henry. I feel like its the mid 90s again with the Bushwhackers, Giant Gonzal---Great Khali, Taker overcoming some odds. ECW is being turned into the new Katie Vick. Both of them are being screwed after their deaths. WCW failed not so much because Russo had crazy gimmicks and nobody to say "that sucked" (that was definitely part of it) It also had to do with the political situation of the main eventers holding down the new people and not wanting to give up their spot/do the job (look at Kidman/Hogan). The suits at TNT/TBS also thought that wrestling was too low-brow and didn't want it on their station so they were fighting with that as well. WrestleCrap Radio did a great job with a two part interview of Vince Russo (the writers of the site wrote a book about the Death of WCW) Russo said that the first taping for WCW, he was in the building for an hour when the backstage political situation firsthand. Damn near every mid-carder ran up and thanked them for coming and were all wanting a chance to main event (Mysterio, Malenko, Eddy, etc.) The main eventers gave Russo/Ferrara dirty looks that they might lose their spots. In defense of Russo, the ratings raised in 3 months from the start from a 1.6 to a 2.6. The suits called him in and said that Russo/Ferrara were doing a poor job. He left creative and then got called back after the 2.6 went back to a 1.6 over a matter of months. It was a combo of nobody sifting through Russo's ideas, the political situation of WCW and the suits in the front office not wanting wrestling programming all combined to bring down WCW during the tale end of the Monday Night Wars. (And add in the "Foley's going to win the world title. That'll sure put asses in the seats." comment for good measure) http://wrestlecrap.com/wrestlecrapradio/wcradio022406.mp3 -- Interview with Vince Russo regarding WCW. Pretty interesting discussion. But even so, it all can't take away the joy I got at seeing this...It made the reincarnation of ECW worth it. -

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 07:15 AM) I love Ken Kennedy. i hope he pulls off some sort of upset, but it is highly doubtful. He is one hell of an athletic wrestler though, and his intro bit is hilarious I'm a big Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiister Kennedy!...............................Kennedy! mark. It just makes me sad that they're going to likely feed him to Dave Batista -- just like they fed the Spirit Squad to DX and completely destroyed any "monster heel"-ness that Umaga had in the match with SuperCena They always create these good ideas for heels and then the wheels fall off in feuds with SuperCena and SuperDave because creative is absolutely terrible. The writers for WWE legitimately asked JBL how they get fake blood to pump from their heads during matches and referred to dark matches as "lights out" matches. The vast majority of them have no knowledge of the business and are completely devoid of any knowledge about how to make exciting wrestling television. WWE has a lot of talented workers but just really push the wrong ones and bury others with bad gimmicks/storylines. But all that is kinda out of my mind because Kelly got caned in the face yesterday! After weeks of that lame expose segment, I am so glad that she may be off TV for a week. -

Few news and notes. 1. They're breaking up the Spirit Squad. A tag division! My kingdom for a legit tag division! Let's give the titles to the Neo-Bushwhackers until a new tag team comes along in 3 months to take the titles away and have the Highlanders split. 2. Ken Kennedy is going to be fed to Deacon Dave Batista at GAB. Onto...WWECW on SciFi Kelly's Expose of Mr. Laurinaitis sucking as a talent scout for a few minutes. She has the deer in the headlights and looks focused on remembering her dance routine rather than trying to get the crowd into it. Mike Knox stops her and calls out the Sandman. Mike Knox d. the Sandman after hitting like five low blows in a row...in our Extreme Rules match of the night (gee, how'd we get so lucky!) But the bright spot of the match: During the match, the Sandman caned Kelly square in the head! I so hope this means the end of the Expose on ECW since she had to be kayfabed "wheeled out by EMTs" The Reject Shannon Moore standing on camera vignette (I liked him better as the Crown Prince of Punk) Paul Heyman promo that he's so smart and needs for the crowd (aka his children) to drink the Kool-Aid. Dreamer interrupts the promo and cuts his own. He says that Heyman owes us an explanation for what he's doing and the state of ECW. Heyman kisses him on the lips and Test plasters Dreamer with a mafia kick to the face. Test hits his lame neckbreaker finisher and is smiling like a doofy idiot. Balls Mahoney promo about being extreme cuz his name is Balls Mahoney and he is a knucklehead who goes all out and he likes himself that way cuz he's Balls Mahoney. Sabu d. Big Stevie Cool, Stevie Richards in a regular match via the Camel Clutch (stupid 1 extreme rules match per show...fabulous booking there Vince, Steph and co!) During the match a big "We Want Tables!" chant starts out. Sabu also hit a nice springboard into a DDT as well. Unfortunately none of his traditional spots with the leg lariat, facebuster, etc. since it was a regular rules match. CM Punk promo that he knows all sorts of martial arts and wrestling. He's trained and it is time that people find out that he is disciplined because he is CM Punk. Mordecai/Vampire promo with the fortune teller (Shelly Martinez) saying that Show's reign shows the Death card in her tarot reading. Big Show domination vignette lead into main event. Taker d. Big Show via DQ... The "Great" (that term is used liberally) Khali runs-in and causes the DQ. Taker gets chokeslammed through the announce table by Khali and Show as the show goes off the air. Highlights of the Show 1. Kelly getting caned in the face! There is not much that can top the potential that she may be off of WWECW TV next week. 2. CM Punk promo...Looks like they're going about this the right way by teasing the character and getting us to know him before putting him out there. Looks like they may also be scrambling for him to change his finisher from the Pepsi Plunge (a pedigree off the top rope) to something else since the Pedigree is owned by HHH. 3. Realizing that Joey Styles is king of the sellouts for accepting the job when he didn't need it and not trying to get released from his contract after cutting his scathing anti-sports entertainment promo in May. -
