  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) I am guessing pricing on the 20 game packages will be close to the same price we paid for 27. I've got a 7 game package, and will continue to buy that until the playoffs are a real possibility (hopefully 2019). If those 20 game packages come with a playoff option that may be worth it. 27 games was always too much for me
  2. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) This was only a matter of time. Excuse train rolling in before the series is even over... #That'sCub I guess. Why is it so hard for the media to concede that the Dodgers are just the better team? They have been all year, and should be the favorite to win the whole thing. Is it the blind worship of Jed and Theo? This team has some holes, especially pitching.
  3. Using the death of servicemen to blast previous presidents would be the lowest of lows for any US President not named Donald Trump. http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/16/politics/tru...rets/index.html
  4. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) Continue to distract yourself with the how instead of the why. It's easier. Can't we focus on both?
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) McCain's a no Call me cynical, but it sure seems like the authors of this bill knew McCain was a no all along and have their scapegoat once again.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) But wouldn't be surprised if the producers were the ones who let that leak early. If all the contestants have phone access to the outside world, I wouldn't be surprised if Cara Maria was the one to put it out there. She's really turning out to be the worst.
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 04:53 PM) What's the case against Paul besides the fact he "upset" the jury? He was by and away the best player this season and bitter jury got him. I agree. However, it's his own fault that the jury was bitter: https://survivingtribal.com/2017/09/21/surv...y-exaggeration/
  8. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) If you haven't seen please watch Raven's interview with Rob Cesternino: Would've given up on the season a long time ago without RHAP.
  9. Watching Paul's mental breakdown as he slowly realized he wasn't going to win was painful. I was rooting for Josh to pull off the upset, but outside of a few mistakes, Paul dominated from start to eviction night. I'm relatively new to BB (more of a Survivor fan). Started watching BB17. Where does Paul rank in all time players? Making it to the final 2 and losing by a single vote is impressive any way you look at it.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 19, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) Have you ever had your child(usually toddler age) say something over and over because one time you thought it was cute but now it's annoying AF because they keep saying it over and over? That is "rocket man" You thought "rocket man" was cute the first time you heard it?
  11. Houston Rockets purchased for $2.2 Billion. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2058860...rice-22-billion JR and his investors are going to be very very rich once they decide to sell.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 06:47 PM) Sorry, I don't believe the president of the USA is a racist or KKK supporter or a Nazi supporter. I mean, cmon. Do u guys really believe that??? Yes. There's a lot more evidence that he is than he isn't.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) He is the Mike Madigan of the GOP party. A real piece of s***. That's not really fair. When has Mike Madigan ever not gotten his way? He may be a piece of s***, but he would have never gotten caught with his pants down like McConnell just did.
  14. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 02:22 PM) Just a catch all post, what do soxtalkers think would help solve the problems Illinois has? Progressive income tax.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 2, 2017 -> 11:18 PM) I was checking Websites. Bro Rice is 11,500 a year. Benet is 11,800. Obviously these schools try to stay in similar price ranges. I loved reading some of the material on costs. You get 300 bucks off any additional kids in the family. Whoopie. 300 bucks cheaper for a second kid and third kid. The one that really got me is if you score in the 98 to 100 percentile of Rice's entrance exam you get something like 3000 bucks off. However you have to maintain a 3.9 GPA or better to keep the discount. First of all 3000 isn't even that much when u are paying 11,500. Second of all, that's pretty wild making sure the kid gets a 3.9. Unless things have changed since the early 2000's, a 3.9 isn't as difficult at Rice as it seems. Honors classes when I was there were based on a 5.0 scale. So a 3.9 is basically a 'b' average.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) I never thought Chicago would fail as a city. Winters are cruel of course, but aside from that, Chicago had everything. Chicago will be fine. Access to Lake Michigan water will become increasingly important as the rest of the country dries out/up.
  17. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) A majority of people are actually independent. Yeah they feel forced to pick a side but I have voted for just as many Republicans as I have Democrats. This thread creation is good for business. I've always considered myself an independent. I've worked for both Republicans and Democrats. However, between our current Governor and current President, I'm finding it harder and harder to identify with most aspects of the Republican party. Living in the south Chicago suburbs, there's not a lot to choose from on the Republican side locally. So if you look at my voting record, I have probably voted 95% D in the last few elections and I don't anticipate that changing anytime soon.
  18. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) They can afford whatever they want. Their 2020 Cubs network will enable them to afford whatever they want. After the lessons of the ESPN bloodbath, is the new network still estimated to approach the enormous TV contracts of the last decade?
  19. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 10:45 AM) That was before my time. Did he then have to run around the bases the right way? I definitely have never seen anyone run around the bases backwards before. I don't know what the rules say about that. I have questions about this too. How many times did he get beaned after that considering this took place "back in the day" when players knew how to "play the right way" and "act like they've been there before"?
  20. Took a group of about 10 people from work to the game last Friday for the groupon patio party deal. As the only real Sox fan in the group, I was the organizer. Some had never been to a Sox game before, and none of them had done the pre-game patio party before. We are already discussing going again later this summer. You'd be shocked at how many couldn't believe that going to a MLB baseball game anywhere other than Wrigley could actually be fun. Just doing my part to help the Sox raise attendance.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2017 -> 03:33 PM) There might be a deal in the works to give Paris the 2024 games, and LA the 2028 games. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/05/10/los...pics-2024-2028/ Paris must be offering serious bribe $$$ to be able to jump LA like that. Europe has hosted both a summer and winter olympics since the last time North America hosted in 2010.
  22. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ May 10, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) The person who arranged for her to speak HAD to know this would happen. She should've known as well.
  23. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ May 3, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Useless/stupid trivia question to keep this timely thread alive...Adam Dunn had a bit part in the in the movie Dallas Buyers Club. Anyone remember who was the last Sox player to appear in a major Hollywood movie prior to that? (Or at least the last one I can remember?) Didn't the whole team technically appear in My Best Friend's Wedding?
  24. Tiger with 4th back surgery. That should just about put to rest any talk of a serious comeback. http://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/192027...-alleviate-pain Say what you will about late 2000's Tiger as a human being, he was certainly fun to watch. I was always amazed at how much better he was mentally than everyone else once he got the lead.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 12:20 AM) But what if insights from game theory -- and, particularly, the greater potential for high collective payouts from credible collaborative collusion -- were to inform passengers’ reactions? They would consider ways to enrich themselves at the expense of the airline. Here’s an example: Once the airline calls for volunteers, those willing to respond would form a consultative group that would assign one passenger to miss the flight and then agree to collectively hold out until the airlines approaches its new $10,000 maximum. At that point, the one passenger would volunteer, collect the compensation, keep a good portion of it, and make smaller side payments to the other members of the group. Of course, this is by no means a foolproof approach. Effective collusion and steadfast commitment are tricky for a plane full of strangers, especially when passengers arrive at the gate at different times and, after the flight, are unlikely to interact with their fellow travelers in future. The incentive for any one passenger to refuse to be a member of the group, or break away from it, is considerable -- especially because there are no easy group discipline enforcement mechanisms. To add to the challenges of forming effective coalitions, the airline compensation is likely to come in the form of travel credits rather than cash, making the side payments complicated and hard to secure. There is also the problem of non-genuine participation by passengers who have no real desire to volunteer, but see this as an opportunity for a potentially risk-free payout. Even if passengers were to overcome all these problems, such game theoretics are unlikely to allow for a “repeated game,” in which passengers repetitively benefit at the expense of the airline. After all, it wouldn’t take the airline long to realize that its highest net present value approach is now to lower its contingent exposure by reducing the overbooking practices. Delta and the Game Theory (regarding up to $10,000 being available for those offering to give up seats) https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/delta-game-t...=3NXOHGXtwoBnI1 I admit that I thought about this when these crazy compensation numbers started popping up in response. But, I agree with this article's conclusion that getting all these strangers to stick together and hold out would be nearly impossible. In my experience, there's typically more volunteers than necessary when an overbooking occurs. That is what makes this whole United fiasco surprising to me. I probably would have jumped at the offer well below the $800 that was rumored to be offered in the first place.
