Sox are looking at catchers in Yankees/Red Sox farm systems

Christian Vazquez is an unbelievable pitch framer. I'm sure the data agrees, because I just marvel at how quickly and smoothly he snaps every pitch in to the zone.

Andrew Benintendi is not in Portland's lineup. Christian Vazquez is not in Pawtucket's lineup..... Very interesting

Why do I fear that someone else is getting them?

I can't think of what other elite SP/RP (Not Miller) is available to warrant them moving Benintendi though.

Chris Archer?

Perhaps, but blockbusters within the division though?

True, it's very unlikely, but depends on the haul I guess.

Basquez for a throw in, fine. But you have to hit. He's more than .100 OPS below acceptable levels.

Vazquez is indeed a wonderful pitch framer but I feel like Soxtalk will hate him for his hitting

Can only really carry him with a good offense. I don't really want him due to the current state of the offense.

Bumping because Gary Sanchez was on the Sox radar but Yanks at the time were asking too much for him. Also funny that with Sanchez and Vasquez to talk about Soxtalkers picked the wonderful pitch framer to marvel over. When will you all learn pitch framing is a bull s*** fad that means very little. Umps have wised up to it and its still umpiring strengths and weaknesses that lead to most blown balls and strikes calls.

Apparently pitch framing is more fascinating than hitting bombs.

I'm not gonna argue, Sanchez > Vasquez, but have you watched a Dioner Navarro-caught game for us this season?

Also, Sanchez's home run streak is unsustainable. This is a guy who can hit you 15-20 homers a season, not 75 (approximately his current pace). Pitchers will adjust to him. It's not like he was some big time power hitter in the minors.

Unsustainable, really ? :) I know you don't want to argue but I think some fans don't understand pitch framing which is taking a borderline strike and turning it into a strike. I say this because of comments I always see in game threads when a catcher has to move his glove a long way in a fraction of a second catches it in the strike zone because of the pitcher missing badly on location and then whining about how Navarro is a terrible pitch framer . Those kind of pitches are definitely on the ump. I'd say Navarro was/is not a good pitch framer but in the grand scheme I think it's given a level of importance, by the way its constantly talked about, that is way out of proportion.

The amount of strikes called balls with Dioner behind the plate this season was really hard to believe. It's total effect on the performance is probably hard to judge accurately, but there is no doubt the way balls are caught fools umpires each way. Those skilled at it do their pitchers a great service. Those not so good, hurt them. Maybe Navarro was better with the staff in other ways. Maybe he called a game better. Maybe he knew which buttons to push better, but he did cost his guys a lot of strikes.

I read another thing on Dioner. He needs one more season for 10 in service time which I guess is a huge milestone for the pension. He picked a bad time to hit at an awful clip. If he doesn't show some sort of bounce back in Toronto, he may be done.

I think Vazquez will be a very good ML catcher. His hitting was a problem this year because he sat out most of last year. But he was a consistent .275 hitter in A, AA and AAA. Besides his noted pitch framing, he has a canon of an arm and is still only 25. I would take him as a 3rd type piece in a package. But I think the Sale/Q trade to Boston will not happen now that Boston's need seems more bullpen depth than starting pitching. They will probably go for a step down from Sale/Q. Maybe Rodon is a possiblilty

Guessing Tradewinds is closed. Didn't expect to see this thread on the main page. Not saying anything else on pitch framing .
