Hearing the Astros placed Jon Singleton on outright waivers, the first step to removal from the 40-man roster.

Left-handed RP Brett Cecil agrees to a deal with the Cardinals, per team source, pending a physical. Deal for four years, may exceed $30M.

And a no trade clause lol. So ridiculous

That's crazy money for a very average reliever. Outrageous the amount money in baseball.

The Sox have to claim him if he makes it this far, no?

He's horrible now. Pass

I'd take a flier on him for sure.

Definitely the type of guy to put on an MLB team that is rebuilding. You hole to catch lightning in a bottle with cast-offs.

He is owed $4-5 million, and hit .202 in AAA.

$2 million a year for the next two years is nothing honestly.

Yeah, he strikes me as a nice bounce back play.

He will clear waivers. They could always sign him then, but he is awful now.

If they didn't release him that only clears him to the minors, right?

This is correct from what I understand. Sox would have to claim him get him.

The choices are claim him as is, contract included, or if no one does, he goes off of the 40 man roster and into the Houston Astros minor league system for assignment to one of their minor league teams. He doesn't become a free agent, I am pretty sure.

Sources: Jason Castro has multiple three-year offers. Team that offers fourth year could gain edge. Nick Hundley Plan B for several clubs.
