November 1, 20169 yr An agreement for 13-year naming rights was reached with the mortgage lender (the countdown begins)
November 1, 20169 yr http://sports.yahoo.com/news/white-soxs-re...&soc_trk=ma Maybe the goal was to steal all the thunder from the Cubs this week? It almost feels like we've had more negative overall articles going back to 2013 and probably even 2011 (Dunn) than positive articles. That's a pretty tough thing for any sports organization to accomplish. Whatever the Cubs do positively, we're taking the same exact number of steps backwards, and they're happening almost simultaneously. They almost have to trade Sale/Quintana because every move they make is going to be met with an eye roll/sigh at this point.
November 1, 20169 yr Wow...that yahoo comments thread (263 and stretching) is really brutal. If anyone in marketing took the time to read through it, they'd realize how big of a hole they've dug themselves into here.
November 1, 20169 yr QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) What do you expect from an ownership team that has deteriorated this franchise into a small market ball club, with all of their awful decisions over their tenure. More of the same, unfortunately.
November 1, 20169 yr This is so horrible. An arrow pointed down on a board that faces the Dan Ryan. How can we cope? How much more can we take? .
November 1, 20169 yr I can't wait for the day when posters who write repeated posts about how they have had enough with the White Sox stop posting on Sox message boards, whining b 1tching, and complaining about everything from the ownership, the management , the ballpark, the corporate logo, and even the culture of White Sox fans.
November 1, 20169 yr QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 06:20 PM) What's wrong with the down arrow that isn't wrong with other advertisements? Not sure that you got a straight answer to this. So the problem is that you associate a big red downward-pointing arrow with negativity, poor performance, something moving in the wrong direction. It's like a signal that says "Do Not Approach." Then you factor in that the team has already been associated with those things for a few years. Then you plaster that arrow all over the stadium. It's just a bad look. It's not the end of the world, but it is insulting.

Order food here, pick up here, downward arrow. No one thinks twice. Edited November 1, 20169 yr by Dick Allen
November 1, 20169 yr When your team is going as the Sox have been the past few years all the negative things that happen sting a bit more. All the times stuff doesnt go our way, even if its small in the grand scheme, makes us feel more defeated than we probably should. This is just like everything else that has taken place recently with the Sox, its AWFUL timing. They definitely have the bad timing down to a science at this point, true experts in bad timing.

What is the bad timing? It was announced in August that November 1 the name change takes place. When were they supposed to announce it, and why would anyone be embarrassed? You must embarrass easily. I could probably follow everyone around for an hour, and someone could do the same with me, and find several things you should probably be more embarrassed about than a name or an arrow on the ballpark of the team you follow. It's not like US Cellular Field was a classic. They aren't even in the Chicago market anymore. Edited November 1, 20169 yr by Dick Allen
November 1, 20169 yr Have JR take a picture under the arrow with a caption saying, 35 years of not how to run a baseball team.
November 1, 20169 yr All I can say is that you have 2 heads of companies. Jerry and the Sox and this CEO of Guaranteed Rate and it really goes to prove you really don't have to be that smart to run a company. The fact that 90% of the public can pick up on why this isn't a good look, or how bad of a joke this is should go to prove something to whoever signed off on this decision. Keep the red in the logo, take the arrow out, put a house in. You can keep your down arrow in areas of the stadium by the food, or signage as you walk up the escalators but the main signs, the ones that get shown? those should not have a down arrow. In the end the CEO of Guaranteed RAte, although wrong, isn't really his fault. Him and his marketing people want exposure. They're getting it. He doesn't care about baseball. The real problem is that you had a group of Sox FO ppl who didn't have the foresight to see this problem and took a terrible sponsorhip for 13 year for a few million dollars extra........... dumb is what it is Edited November 1, 20169 yr by BrianAnderson

This is about a brand being associated with the ballclub. The CEO of GR isn't going to change his logo to accommodate the concerns of the White Sox. As he said, that is the whole point of this deal - to build the brand - not to confuse people as to who the hell they are.

You once again globalize any negative thought towards the Sox on here. Here comes DA again riding on his downward pointing arrow decorated chariot to defend the Whitesox.
November 1, 20169 yr Since it is so horrible, can someone explain how Guaranteed Rate was able to build their business from the ground up with a logo with an arrow pointing down?

The context of their business was that they want their customers to believe their rates will be low.

From their comments it seems like they just hate the fan base and are content to rub it in our faces whenever it is convenient. Sell the team and move to Vegas. Sox can play in the AL West and move Houston to the AL Central.
November 1, 20169 yr QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) The context of their business was that they want their customers to believe their rates will be low. Yes, but White Sox fans don't seem to understand it, so why would their customer base understand it? Isn't the downward arrow a sign of a sinking ship?

November 1, 20169 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) Yes, and whose logo is the downward arrow? Apparently many people somehow tie Guaranteed Rate's logo as the White Sox'. Maybe because its plastered all over their field. LOL DA it isnt life changing. You are mistaken when you think there is real public outrage of stuff like this, even if there is that is the fans right to be outraged if they choose to. Its just annoying and something to talk about when you are a fan of bad organization. You personally may not feel like the Sox are a bad org and agree with all of their decisions but that doesnt mean everyone else has to.
November 1, 20169 yr QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 1, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) Yes, and whose logo is the downward arrow? Apparently many people somehow tie Guaranteed Rate's logo as the White Sox'. The advertisements involved with a franchise still portray an image of the team. Even though the downward logo has to do with mortgage rates, it still gives a negative image when it's plastered next to the team's logo. It's why no team plays at Bob's Dildos Field. Sure, Bob's Dildos may be the best dildo company in the whole world and everybody has nothing but positive things to say about the company, but you still don't want a big dildo plastered all over your stadium walls, no matter how much revenue it brings in.

It's not the end of the world, but it is insulting. Thanks for the clarification. So it was what I expected it to be. I will say that I think this is a non-issue. As an individual who despises advertisements, I despise this particular advertisement no different than the others. I see the point and connection of a downward franchise with this logo, but anyone being realistic understands the context here (Guaranteed rate logo, not downward arrow for franchise). Bad timing as there is such negative feelings towards the Sox, but at the end of the day, what will really give us the feelings will be how they approach the offseason... That will determine whether I am here on opening day talking to you guys on Soxtalk or not .
November 1, 20169 yr Heck, maybe we can get some sponsors like Dumpster Fire International, Anemia Society of America, and America's Funniest Bloopers. Shouldn't matter how they tie into the image of the ball club.
