What contract? Melky will be a free agent in a year. There really is no contract to take.

Might take an injury in spring training to jumpstart a deal for one of those guys, but I don't think they hold onto any of those guys. Abreu sticks around until next year when there's a thinner RH 1B free agent class.

San Diego acquired right-hander Tyler Barnette from Chicago in exchange for cash. The 24-year-old posted a 6.00 ERA in 37 games (eight starts) between Double-A and Triple-A this year.

Have to set your DVR to record hot stove every day . As long as the Sox are in the headlines for their past and future moves and the rumors flying it's fun to watch. A lot of fluff on the show but since the winter meetings I've seen numerous guys talking about the Sox .,,Heyman , Morosi , Rosenthal , Dan Hayes, Rogers, Joel Sherman , Merkin .

I doubt it now with the Moncada connection and the saturated 1B market.... coupled with Jose's value being down. Abreu isn't likely to go anywhere for all of 2017 IMO.

They probably want to trade him now but are content having him build value and will look to trade him to a contender at the deadline ala Chapman / Miller last year.
