Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week

We have not had any indication that talks have advanced or that any deal for Quintana is close

Offers have been exchanged, but neither the Pirates or Astros are blinking as of yet

The Rangers rumor appeared to be a White Sox generated leak to stir the pot

Nightengale said that Houston and White Sox are re-engaged on talks. Levine has been saying for weeks that Q goes before the season starts.

I don't think it is a matter of "close" or not, but more about who blinks first. Both teams probably know the others demands well by now. It is all a matter of who is going to step down from that price to meet the other.

With things like comp picks or international bonuses possible, it could be a more creative and strange negotiation.

At least my divorce was finalized yesterday. Two years of court appearances to end a 4 year marriage. Talk about a nightmare. So relieved that I don't have to wear a lawyer hat anymore... it's gonna take a good couple weeks for me to sink into life without all of that nonsense.

Just gotta send her some more money and pay some back taxes... then the only tie I'll have with her is our son.

Good riddance - mistakes in choosing a mate aren't easily amended. :bang:

:cheers

To be clear, comp picks can only be traded in season. So this pick from the Cards CANNOT be traded until after the first pitch of the season. Also International money can only be traded during that period of time. The only thing we can acquire now is for the period of time BEFORE July 2, 2017, and that class is pretty much gone. The only use that MIGHT have is if there is someone from a place like Cuba that we like (say like Ralph) and that money made the difference.

If we are talking about a trade before opening day neither a comp pick, nor 2017-18 international signing money can be in a deal.

Sounds like the Astros owner is seeing those picks as a way to help replenish their farm after trading prospects away for a pitcher. Sounds about right since those picks cannot be traded at this time. Maybe those picks loosen up Luhnow's pucker enough to actually get a deal done for Q.

If the Sox are committed to trading Q before spring training then it will he Hahn who blinks first. Strange that we'd be signalling to anyone that that's the plan (if true).

His pucker? What kind of negotiator is Rick Hahn?

I could have sworn seattle just traded bonus pool amounts.

Seattle traded a current bonus pool slot (2016-2017, and not 2017-18) to Texas back in July.

IT was Rockies/Cubs trade.

Any idea what difference is here?

"The teams will also be swapping international bonus slots for the 2016-17 signing period: the Rockies will acquire slot No. 28 in exchange for slot No. 74, increasing their overall pool by $211,800."

EDIT: nvm it's what you said, 2016-17

Cubs just traded their "28th overall" top international bonus slot to the Rockies this week. I can't find where it says otherwise but it has to be their 16-17 period since they were third best team in 15 (I guess making them the 28th overall reverse standings wise).

Edit: ok you found it haha

And as an extra step of research, it does appear the Astros are at or above their 2016-17 international spending pool. They only had $2.1 million to start, and I see signings of $1.2 million, plus 450k and 480k along with a decent amount of unlisted signings.

No need to ask, he's a smooth operator.

Levine reiterating what he wrote a few days ago but the first sentence of the article is what got me. So Q getting traded is now a fact? That's pretty bold. I'm usually rather critical of Levine but he has remained consistent in regards to Q so perhaps he knows more than he's allowed to say? We will know soon enough I guess.

The fact that White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana will be traded soon is a forgone conclusion.

This article is from a few days ago. Might be the same stuff.

Good point and I think you're right. Didn't realize til after I posted the article but I think I read this the night before it came out so it seems as though the article was new to me.

Man, I really need to stop reading so much on Q talks. Pretty bad when I can't remember what I've already read. Need to unscramble my brain, lol.

Q traded during half time of the super bowl. Book it.

So you're saying you have a feeling something's gonna happen soon? I wish I'd trademarked that a few weeks ago.

No, this cannot be allowed to happen during the Puppy Bowl!

So which Quintana thread are we all supposed to complain and waste each other's time in?

No wrong choice.

It'd be fitting for Q to be traded at the one time no one would notice

What's the purpose of Levine writing such a definitive statement?
