Nationals acquire Doolittle/Madson from As

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal

Prospects headed to #Athletics from #Nationals are LH Jesus Lazardo and 3B Sheldon Neuse. Those two plus Treinen for Doolittle, Madson.

Could see why they would do that deal. Now, do they still go out and add one more?

Might still have interest in Robertson, but deal far less likely now.

Good for the nationals... and I'm glad we didn't trade with them as that package ain't all that. Lazardo will end up being the best of the bunch but is still a crap shoot.

I feel like Oakland set the bar really low... kind of a light return right)

Have Madson through next year and Doolittle through 20. Good trade.

Well, I will say Rizzo did much better than I thought he would.

Props to him for not giving in.

I assumed they where both FA after this season... wow... awful trade Oakland!!!

Yeah, I have no idea why you do that on July 16.

Billy....why?

Yanks, Dodgers, Red Sox and Rockies seem like best fits now

Nats still don't have a true closer, but can't see them adding another big name

I actually think the opposite.

If I just managed to get those two guys for that, I'd be on the phone with Hahn right now getting Robertson for one of my 3-5 prospects.

I agree. I could see Kieboom plus a couple others being on the table.

Fantastic trade for the Nats. Surprised Oakland couldn't do better.

Thats why some of us on here wouldn't be shocked to see Schwarber as the center piece in a Gray deal lol

What are you guys talking about? Both of those guys have tons of closing experience and are having good seasons.

Because adding 3 good relievers would be better than adding just 2. Especially when you bought the first 2 so cheap.

Fwiw they want Happ for Gray

What the hell is Oakland doing? Thats a terrible trade for them

Treinen and Madson don't actually project a lot differently going forward, Treinen is cheaper and Madson is 37. Doolittle for those two seems a little light, but Luzardo is the wild card, sort of prospect that could make a big rankings leap very quickly.

Right but they've been balking at the Sox price for like 8 months now, while blowing like a game a week. Clearly they didn't want to give up serious prospects for a closer, and they just got two of the Proven Closer™ brand.

I'd be absolutely shocked if they ponied up now.

I don't see them "ponying up" per se. I doubt Robles, Fedde, and Soto are going anywhere. I think anyone else could be on table.

I don't have FOMO of that return, at least. But sure makes me bring down my expectations for Robertson.

Yeah I think they seriously expect a lot of Fedde in bullpen soon.
