Team (Games left) - Sox Magic Number to have higher pick:

1. Phillies(18) - 21 (-3.0 GB)

2. Giants(15) - 18 (-1.5 GB)

3. White Sox(18)

4. Tigers(18) - 15 (+4.0 GA)

5. Reds(17) - 14

6. A's(18) - 13

7. Mets(18) - 12

8. Padres(17) - 11

9. Braves(19) - 11

10. Pirates(16) - 7

The Sox would have to be 3 games worse than the Phillies with the remaining schedule to have a higher pick.

The Sox would have to be 4 games better than the Tigers with the remaining schedule to fall below them in the draft order.

They are likely ending up at 3, but the Giants have been playing better of late, and the Sox rotation is inconsistent at best and bad at worst. They still have a chance at getting #1.

Should we be worried about the dodgers?

Thankfully it's September and not July or else I'd be worried.

Nope, they're the 2005 White Sox and the diamond backs are the 2005 Indians.

A split with the Tigers would be four days off the schedule, and then the Tigers would have to be 3 games worse over the last 13 games to have a higher pick.

Phillies, Sox won.

Giants losing, Tigers lost.

2.5 GB of Giants for 2nd pick

2.5 GB of Phillies for 1st pick

Only 2 ahead of the Phils.

Right, but Phillies own the tie-breaker, so we need to actually end up 0.5 games better than the Phillies, which obviously can't happen because everyone will (or should) play 162. So 2.5 GB is really 3 GB in the end.

Can we just lose every game for the rest of the season please? Someone call Billy Koch.

These wins are really hurting. Hopefully it ends with an overpay by some team for avi

I bet Detroit catches White Sox this weekend.

If it makes you feel better, the Giants were 3rd five days ago, and now they are 1st.

Today is the first of the Giants final four off days. Good day for the Sox to lose.

This year feels like bizarro 2012 and they might catch us again.

The Tigers are going to play the final 54 at 14-40.

65-97

Sox have to go 7-10, including today.

If the Sox win today, Detroit will be only one game back of them for the third pick.

It's 2 with the tiebreaker but yes

Reds lost too. Plenty of time for the Sox to fall to 5.

It would really suck to fall back to 4 or even 5, there often is a big drop off in quality after the top3 picks and the bonus money also gets worse.

Really 4 or 10 isn't that big of a difference, the biggest gaps in talent you find at the top.

Doesn't mean you cant find a star at 4 but generally the expectation shifts from star to average regular when you go back to the mid part of the top10.

The Phillies are pretty much having the same benefit (or "situation" depending how you look at it) as us with their young guys contributing. They don't have the young pitching we do but they have the young bats (Hoskins, Williams, Crawford, Herrera). Nola is already solid on the pitching side, Pivetta is taking his lumps but has a solid K rate and they just called up Arano. I personally think Detroit is worse. The Giants are the biggest enigma to me. No way should they be this bad, yet here we are.
