No one really gave any praise to Beane in that deal if I recall.

It was the first deal to happen in terms of relievers, basically. But he dumped a bunch of cash on Washington and got two pretty solid assets back in Luzardo and Treinen.

Yeah, I hear you, but I guess we need to see how the next 5 days go.

I don't think this is nearly the buyer's market as it's been made out to be.

It is totally a buyer's market for relievers. You can continue to be upset over what is a minor trade, or focus on the next stages of development our farm needs to get us where we need to be.

There was not a better return to be had right now.

Recently heard the Padres do not expect to deal Hand due to a lack of quality offers. Once again, the market is just not great for sellers right now.

Think about this...bats apparently have no value in this market. The market is "flooded" with relief arms. There have been basically 5-6 rumored decent SP on the market.

There are basically 15-16 supposed buyers in the market right now, and maybe 10-11 sellers. And the sellers aren't exactly loaded with great pieces, or else they wouldn't be selling. They'd be good. And half of those teams haven't sold anything yet. Several of those selling teams went into the year attempting to suck, so they don't even have many movable pieces, because they are all kids.

We've seen 6 teams sell thus far - CWS, Oak, SF, Mia, Det and SD, three of which have moved relief arms.

And honestly, don't worry about what I am or am not upset about.

Edited by iamshack

Relievers moved so far:

Robertson

Kahnle

Swarzak

Mauer

Madson

Doolittle

Phelps

Relievers likely available:

Hand

J. Wilson

McGowan

A. Wilson

Stammen

Brach

Britton

Ramos

Neshek

Benoit

Storen

Strickland (his name has popped up in rumors)

And then add in any reliever on a team in contention and around .500 (Pirates, Cardinals, Angels, etc.) that could decide to sell a few rental BP pieces in the next 5 days. Plus any team selling back-end rotation guys who may end up in a team's bullpen.

That middle paragraph isn't true, we had great pieces to trade but we sucked.

The market for rental players has been weak this year compared to recent years, unfortunate but that's the market thus far.

I'm unconvinced Baltimore is selling...Angelos is nuts. l did forget about Phelps - good catch.

Updated list because I forgot Tigers anyway. Also, Brach and Britton being only under control through next season is why I put them on. And there's been rumors.

You mean the price Hahn has accepted for relievers?

Billy Beane's deal with Washington is starting to look better and better.

But wasn't that one of the first deals made? What looked like a pretty mediocre return at the time, doesn't look half bad at the moment. Maybe Beane was smart to jump early and beat the market. Again, I think we have to wait and see how things shake out between now and August 1st. Having said that, the more I reflect, the more I wish we held onto Kahnle until the offseason. The lack of track record was already working against him, selling him in this market couldn't of helped matters.

Relevant.

The chances of #Orioles Zach Britton being traded are growing slimmer by the day. Market for Britton simply hasn't developed.

It's pretty true, Russ. Of course some s***ty teams have a few decent pieces to move, but a lot of teams that suck don't have crap to move, which is why they haven't been moving it.

Anyways, I won't fight you guys anymore on this. I see pretty much everyone is pleased with the deal and I'm not here trying to change that. Just expressing a different opinion.

My apologies to anyone I may have offended or been abrasive with.

Please enjoy Ryan Cordell and Ian Clarkin until your hearts are content.

Yeah it's not really a good market to deal him...since there are a bunch of other relievers out there.

It's actually kind of weird Cordell was brought along slowly. Looking at his stats, he has hit at every level that he's played. Probably more of a "what position is he going to play?" situation. If the Brewers didn't have so much OF depth this year, he probably would have gotten a shot sooner.

It's ok to be disappointed by the returns, but honestly you've gone a bit off the deep end in your reactions and I think that's why people have jumped on you. In the long run, will this trade really be worth this much discussion? Probably not.

I am optimistic because these ARE the moves that Hahn needs to make, sign cheap players and hope they turn into additional resources in the future. Whether he makes the right trades will be determined but I'm encouraged by the process.

Went to Liberty University too, I believe, and he was very raw coming out of college. Doesn't surprise me in the least that they took it as slow with him as they did.

Oh I didn't know that. Thanks. Still encouraging that he has hit along the way.

Think he hit more homers in his first year at A+ or his first full go around in AA than he did his entire college career.

EDIT: Yep, A+. He hit 12 homers his entire college career and 13 his first go around in A+. He really was not a good hitter in college at all. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/pro...?P=ryan-cordell

Is this iamshack always this annoying or is he overdue for um yeah...great trade by Hahn!

Start what? I've been posting on message boards since before you were alive. I was at Game 2 of the World Series. I go by GSHSoldier and ReturnofJPR on many sites. This is like my 11th white Sox board been reading for years decided to show because I'm excited about the rebuild. We are gonna be like the 76ers this season in the NBA but in 2019 instead. Gotta trust the process. In Hahn we trust.

Start your membership on a message board by insulting a longtime member and former mod. What you do elsewhere doesn't really matter

He's completely incorrect in his/her assessment of the trade and to give up carson fulmer in his mock trade is just laughable. I finally had to post after 8 years of reading this forum, because he single handily ruined the reading material of this thread by letting his incorrect assertions bleed from page to page like a never ending story. White Sox have the best farm system in all of baseball, maybe second worst case scenario behind the Braves, let's be excited and focus on the positives.

Shack is alright. He just has some groovy kind of love for Swarzak. :P

First off, welcome aboard. Secondly, no need to call out Shack (or any member for that matter directly). Debates are going to happen and different ideas/opinions are good and welcome. Besides, while I might disagree with Shack's views of this trade, he is an excellent poster/member on this site.
