My guess is that there is also a fair chance that some of the return in these trades are guys that can fill in spots today as well. I'd also follow up my original post with a guess that no one wants Mike Pelfrey, and if we need to keep a veteran for a spot the rest of the season, we will be just keeping the one we already have instead of adding another.

Agreed on all accounts. Could totally Pelfrey hanging around. I think he actually really likes pitching for the Sox. He's made some comments about how Coop operates and that in all his years in the bigs he has never had that type of attention from a pitching coach. Heck, all things considered, he hasn't been THAT bad for the Sox.

Guys like Pelfrey and Shields likely won't move until near the deadline or shortly after, when teams that need depth have already swung and missed on actual upgrades and are just looking for depth.

I don't think either guy is worth anything. Shields maybe you could get a C- prospect for if you pay the rest of his salary. These guys are just .5 WAR starters at best. ZIPS sees .3 the rest of the way for each.

Pelfrey and Shields are worth nothing on the trade market at this point. As long as they eat innings and lose us games they are doing their part to aid the rebuild though.

We are at the point where every loss is vitally important to our draft position and draft bonus pool allowance. Screwing up and winning a few meaningless games can be the difference between picking in the top 3 and picking #9 - 12

Well Waddya Ynoa?

A gem lost in a sea of sensical thoughts...lol

I doubt the Sox would sign Bartolo Colon after his disappearance fiasco last time he was here.

Ynoa has been stinking the joint up and is out of options. His velocity is down as well. He probably won't be claimed, and will be with the Knights shortly.

Rizzo is desperate these days...

Thank you. Ynoa has talent but right now, he sucks. They may lose him to a non-contender, like the Phillies, but it happens.

If the Nationals claimed Ynoa thinking he will fix their bullpen woes, I'd be surprised. If they claim him and he DOES fix their bullpen woes, I'll buy everyone beef sandwiches from Portillos.

Who would have predicted Albers and Turner being useful ultimately for the Nats?

They would have been wrong. Turner is gasoline and Albers will be shortly. He was the star of the meme last week showing yet another blown save

Agreed, there is no way they rely on Albers come the playoffs. He's due to implode.

Joe Cool just created 5 new accounts.

Albers started the year for us with a ridiculous scoreless streak then I think he got way overused and never bounced back whether mentally or physically or both. He had a track record of being decent and started this year decent/good for the Nats. Perhaps he is a guy who really needs his workload monitored which is not going to be easy when he was pitching well and your other guys were not. Maybe no back to backs or periodic 2-3 days off. I don't know of anyone tracking how often guys warm up and aren't used or warm up 2-3 times before being used etc. Remember it was Jack McDowell who explained during games he pitched, he limited his pre inning warm up pitches in order to decrease the load and go deeper into games.

Looks like Ynoa cleared waivers, so he's off to Charlotte.

Looks like I'm in the clear.

What an awesome trade that was for Samardzija.

Thank God they really went for it with that team and that manager.

Seriously though, good luck to Ynoa. Here's hoping he figures it out, as we need as many youngsters as possible to figure it out.
