Jones out for Season, nerve repositioning surgery

Featured Replies

He had a smart agent (or doctor) advising him to take that team-friendly contract extension.

Yeah so long as this doesn't require TJ.

It's a damn shame. Have to imagine he had a decent market last offseason. Could have been a real trade asset.

Man that sounds career threatening. Best of luck to Nate. That's awful.

Would love more insight from ptac whenever he gets a chance but it does not look good right now for Nate Jones. Team Friendly contracts aren't the worst thing for players.

Let's not hold onto Kahnle I decided

Really good point. Deals like this have really paid off for both Jones and Santos.

Should have traded him last winter. The market appeared to have been there. Damn shame.

Evidently there is a clause in the contract that if he has a elbow surgery the terms change.

This is correct.

The news also has a direct effect on Jones’s contract situation. He is guaranteed $3.95MM next year regardless. But his 2019-21 options will now give the team an opportunity to retain him for less than it could have if Jones had stayed off the surgeon’s table for his elbow. He can now be controlled for the league minimum (2019), $3.75MM (2020), and $4.25MM (2021), with a $1.25MM buyout applying to any of those three years.

Yeah, wish we had moved him to highest bidder this past offseason.

Trade Kahnle.

Despite our discussions about trading him, I can't recall a single trade rumor that centered around Nate Jones.

I'm starting to lean that way.

I know a person who had nerve transportation surgery on his elbow (I'm guessing same thing?), he was an avid volleyball player and was back on the court in under 4 months. From what he told me it was just a small incision and he had to take it easy for a few months.

Guy can't stay healthy. The contract clause is interesting though and well done by Hahn.

There were several rumors out there that he was of interest to many teams, but never really saw names thrown around.

Scar tissue built up around the nerve after TJ surgery. It needed to be cleaned up. I think gloom and doom on Nate is premature

Look at all the Sox relief pitchers hurt the past few years...Jones, Putnam, Petricka...even Zach Duke.

Think back to how Ventura managed the pen sometimes using three or four guys to get through one inning because he was so wedded to the "lefty has to face lefty" philosophy.

All those appearances added up it seems...not just throwing in the game but warming up to get into the game.

Now the chickens have come home to roost.
