July 10, 20178 yr He had a smart agent (or doctor) advising him to take that team-friendly contract extension.
July 11, 20178 yr QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) He had a smart agent (or doctor) advising him to take that team-friendly contract extension. Yeah so long as this doesn't require TJ.
July 11, 20178 yr It's a damn shame. Have to imagine he had a decent market last offseason. Could have been a real trade asset.
July 11, 20178 yr QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 09:17 PM) It's a damn shame. Have to imagine he had a decent market last offseason. Could have been a real trade asset. Always sell relievers.
July 11, 20178 yr QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) Always sell relievers. especially frequently injured relievers
July 13, 20178 yr @scottmerkin Following More White Sox reliever Nate Jones underwent nerve repositioning surgery in his right elbow on Tuesday. He will miss the remainder of this season
July 13, 20178 yr QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 08:01 AM) @scottmerkin Following More White Sox reliever Nate Jones underwent nerve repositioning surgery in his right elbow on Tuesday. He will miss the remainder of this season Man that sounds career threatening. Best of luck to Nate. That's awful.
July 13, 20178 yr QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 08:04 AM) Man that sounds career threatening. Best of luck to Nate. That's awful. Would love more insight from ptac whenever he gets a chance but it does not look good right now for Nate Jones. Team Friendly contracts aren't the worst thing for players.
July 13, 20178 yr QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) Would love more insight from ptac whenever he gets a chance but it does not look good right now for Nate Jones. Team Friendly contracts aren't the worst thing for players. Really good point. Deals like this have really paid off for both Jones and Santos.
July 13, 20178 yr Should have traded him last winter. The market appeared to have been there. Damn shame.
July 13, 20178 yr Evidently there is a clause in the contract that if he has a elbow surgery the terms change.
July 13, 20178 yr QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) Evidently there is a clause in the contract that if he has a elbow surgery the terms change. This is correct. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/nate...er-surgery.html The news also has a direct effect on Jones’s contract situation. He is guaranteed $3.95MM next year regardless. But his 2019-21 options will now give the team an opportunity to retain him for less than it could have if Jones had stayed off the surgeon’s table for his elbow. He can now be controlled for the league minimum (2019), $3.75MM (2020), and $4.25MM (2021), with a $1.25MM buyout applying to any of those three years.
July 13, 20178 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) This is correct. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/nate...er-surgery.html Damn Hahn is good. Essentially Jones is gonna be cheap. If he ends up coming back and has a good year next year he's gonna be a nice trade chip.
July 13, 20178 yr QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) Yeah, wish we had moved him to highest bidder this past offseason. Trade Kahnle. Despite our discussions about trading him, I can't recall a single trade rumor that centered around Nate Jones.
July 13, 20178 yr QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 08:20 AM) Let's not hold onto Kahnle I decided I'm starting to lean that way.
July 13, 20178 yr I know a person who had nerve transportation surgery on his elbow (I'm guessing same thing?), he was an avid volleyball player and was back on the court in under 4 months. From what he told me it was just a small incision and he had to take it easy for a few months.
July 13, 20178 yr Author Guy can't stay healthy. The contract clause is interesting though and well done by Hahn.
July 13, 20178 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) Despite our discussions about trading him, I can't recall a single trade rumor that centered around Nate Jones. There were several rumors out there that he was of interest to many teams, but never really saw names thrown around.
July 13, 20178 yr Scar tissue built up around the nerve after TJ surgery. It needed to be cleaned up. I think gloom and doom on Nate is premature
July 13, 20178 yr Author Look at all the Sox relief pitchers hurt the past few years...Jones, Putnam, Petricka...even Zach Duke. Think back to how Ventura managed the pen sometimes using three or four guys to get through one inning because he was so wedded to the "lefty has to face lefty" philosophy. All those appearances added up it seems...not just throwing in the game but warming up to get into the game. Now the chickens have come home to roost.
