Garfein interviewed Adam Jones - who unprompted told Garfein that he'd be a good fit for the Sox. He lavished praise upon the city of Chicago. Also said whoever cuts Machado the biggest check will get Machado.

So, with nothing but that to go on, thoughts on Adam Jones as a fit? If Harper/Machado signs, he could make a good centerfield placeholder until one of Team Luis is able to break out into the Show.

It sounds like hes pushing himself on a lot of teams. He is out in Vegas personally. If he could still play CF I'd be okay with it, but hes 33 so I'm guessing that's an issue.

He can’t play CF defensively anymore.

Jones may struggle to land more than a one year deal anywhere due to his regression. He's a liability in center field, and his bat isn't really good enough to be a corner regular. For a one year stopgap? Maybe, but I'd be in no rush to sign him.

Oh God, somebody cover Kenny's ears

Jones is a wonderful person and teammate and Baltimore was lucky to have his career, but I just don't see a team picking him up. Maybe as a 4th OFer.

Maybe as a platoon piece in a corner spot? Platoon with Palka then Eloy and whoever is in RF getting a break at DH?

And that’s the problem.

I’d rather see Jones playing a corner OF spot on a cheap 1 year deal then see more Delmonico/Luery/Cordell/whatever we currently have on the roster. Jones would probably be good for the young players too.

But if we are “going for it”, Jones shouldn’t be signed as a starting OF’er.

Well said.  Great dude, solid career, but might time to hang em up.

Kenny always gets his guy!

One year $2M deal if the Sox basically go to camp with their current 40 man (ie: miss out on all other FAs of note).  Sure, I guess.  Anything else, hard pass. In that scenario, I may actually rather just see Leury/Delmonico/Cordell play LF.

It's the quote of the winter so far! ?

He sucks defensively. Sucks is being nice.
