January 15, 20197 yr @raBBit, do you have reason to believe this saga is coming to an end soon? Or did you just mean it in a general sense?

January 15, 20197 yr There are a lot of ways one can read into that (probably purposely) vaguely worded tweet but the one interpretation you seem to get every time is that this process is almost over.

He didn’t like the leaks of the 8 year offer and he let his 2 go to guys Nightingale and Levine handle it. Also explains the lock down of info. Jerry’s got this for better or worse now. Should this make us feel better or worse? Has JR negotiated any contracts lately? I'm not sure that changing the lead negotiator mid-stream makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

January 15, 20197 yr Rabbit specifically says in a reply in that tweet that it is JR not that anyone didn’t put two and two together and realized that’s what he meant
January 15, 20197 yr Dont see how anyone could take that to mean KW. KW almost basically walked on out of here for another job a few years ago because he had been decentralized. He's not going to singlehandedly take over our largest outlay in team history.
January 15, 20197 yr If the Sox don't pull this off i'll fade away and classify myself as obsolete... OBSOLETE!
January 15, 20197 yr Jerry Reinsdorf is probably not going to be alive in 10 years. I would have to assume that his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several generations beyond that are all taken care of financially. Go out with a bang and sign Machado.
January 15, 20197 yr What I hope it means is a deal is close and Jerry is coming in to make sure it gets closed versus Jerry coming in and taking over because it’s taken too long to long for him to decide

I believe it's over when the press conferences are scheduled for whoever gets these guys. These negotiations are unbelievable.

If we are talking about a $200-$300 million expenditure, this is something that is being done at the ownership level. JR might not be engaged in all of the detail work of the actual negotiations, but you can bet that everything is getting filtered and fed through him before it goes out to MM's team.
January 15, 20197 yr I have no sauces, but JR was always driving this negotiation. Yesterday I posted about how JR is the only guy with the Sox who has even come close to negotiating this type of contract. If JR is involved directly, it means that it is either getting done or falling apart. My guess is that it is getting done.
January 15, 20197 yr I thought I watched or read something that Jerry did the negotiations for the last Konerko deal, am I correct on that?

Hahn gets put through a table, Moncada gets knocked off the stage with sweet chin music, Eloy runs down for the save but gets a Stunner, and Stanton puts Jerry in the Camel Clutch and makes him watch in agony as Manny signs the Yankees contract.
January 15, 20197 yr Mr. Reinsdorf is a self made billionaire and arguably the most powerful man in sports. He didn’t get there by accident. He is a shrewd but fair negotiator and admires the same. This isn’t bad development it just shows how big this is.

This whole process has required far more advisory and strategy than I think anyone could have imagined.

January 15, 20197 yr If Jerry is directly involved it’s close to getting done. Jerry is a “I want to see a cut of his jib” type guy to finalize a deal. If it was falling apart, Jerry would have Rick try to salvage (not Kenny as he’s loyal to Kenny but knows his “tact” shortcomings)

January 15, 20197 yr So is Jerry running the show because we're close, or is he running the show because it's gone of the rails?
