I want this to happen just to see a Yoan/Yolbert/Yolmer/Yonder infield come to fruition

Twitter will probably mess this potential signing. Right Rick?

This argument is pretty ridiculous.  He are all the top 3 round picks under Hostetler (Fulmer was not his pick FYI): 2016-1: Zack Collins (in between) 2016-1: Zack Burdi (floor)

Which means we haven't done a damned thing in a market we have had two years to focus on.

He's one of the top names...

Yep, he’s a top target.  I have no problem with the Sox saving for the top guys (Luis Robert, Yolbert Sanchez) than pay a bunch of mediocre guys who will never make the majors.

Why do you say that? They’re targeting one of the top guys.

If they still have $2.5 million free, that means they have done an awful job of targeting the Latin American market the last two years.

I’m all for throwing more money at the top targets.

Because most of the top prospects are already tied to teams.  If we have the budget flexibility to afford this guy, that likely means we haven’t add many / any high end prospects.

Maybe Robert can put in a good word.

I was confused when I first read his name. Now I'm more confused.

It means we have spent about $2.5 million,  tops.

Or maybe they are re-prioritizing it on what they deem to be a better player.

And why would this be surprising anyways, they had years to plan for this years free agency and it yielded nothing.

The Orioles have to have money left to spend in the current period right? They pretty signed no one.

Yes they have close to 6MIL

In all seriousness, is this guy any good? His stats in Cuba don't look all that inspiring.

Might as well spend it right.

Ss2k5 nailed my thoughts. Was hugely disappointed to read that.

That would be a fairly high-risk move if you already had done your job scouting and lined up decent quality players. If this guy says no to you, then you've left yourself no backup plan.

The Sox are in every avenue terrified of younger players and will pay for older, more certain production over and over.

From the article I linked above...

“The Orioles, who came up short in their pursuit of Cuban outfielders Victor Victor Mesa and Victor Mesa Jr. and Cuban pitcher Sandy Gaston, still have close to $6 million in bonus pool money to spend on international prospects -- the most money in baseball -- and the Dodgers ($1.4 million) are next. The Phillies have close to $1 million remaining while the Cubs, Rangers and Red Sox follow with bonus pools in the $700,000-$850,000 range.”

They would be breaking existing agreements for a chance at the other guy. That means they would be burning bridges for future signings with the same buscandos for future players. That isn't going to happen.
