Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him

10 teams are looking for bullpen help, he should return something good. Giles getting hurt and the Pirates not willing to trade Vasquez looks like a blessing for the Sox.

We can hope.  Still nervous about the amount of modern front offices that will focus on his not great peripherals.  All it takes is one team to panic though.

  • my only philosophy on baseball (as a young person) is that old players like colome are useless (as are saves, since I am a statnik) and should be force retired. If that's not possible, flipping them i

  • I'd say put a silly value on him and if teams dont meet it just keep him.

Yah, that 60 at bat sample size really tells us all we need to know there.

You beat me to it that's good enough for me , Sherman is very well connected.

Does this mean ample interest is confirmed? can we change the name of the thread?

With the Giants recent surge, there are fewer and fewer options available. Colome has a track record of being good, I don‘t think the peripherals in a small sample size are causing much panic.

If you want to

I think we can rest assured that if Colome is traded, the return will be worthwhile.  Otherwise he just won't be traded.  Its that simple.

Ample amount of posts in here

Yes, indeed, which makes Colome one of the top closer trade options.

Colomé has a grand total of 1 blown save this season. Peripherals or not, he is a damn good closer who should net the Sox a quality package if they decide to trade him.

I don’t know about package but I expect one good prospect.

That takes Wil Smith off the market...

Giles had MRI, no structural damage.  Did get cortisone shot and will not pitch again before deadline.

This is good for Colome market.

What relievers are clearly more valuable than Colome that will actually be available and healthy?

Felipe Vasquez, Ian Kennedy,  maybe Will Smith, Shane Greene. That's about it.

Diaz, he's technically available although the Mets are asking for ridiculous trades.

Amir Garret from Cincy if he's available, not sure he is though.

I believe Kennedy has like $38M still left on his deal, so I can’t see anyone taking him without the Royals eating quite a bit of money.  Doesn’t sound like the Giants want to trade Smith and Vazquez seems almost too cost prohibitive to acquire.  That list makes me feel much more optimistic that we’ll be able to get something decent for Colome.

Pitt wants like a top 30 guy and a top 100 guy + at least.  He's an outstanding pitcher with another 4 years of control left but nobody is paying that.  Pitt also doesn't need to trade him unless they get blown away.

Kirby Yates I think is available too, he'd get more than Colome.  I forgot about him.

According to MLBtraderumors:

Shane Greene, Edwin Diaz, Felipe Vazquez, Mychal Givins, Raisel Iglesias, Craig Stammen, Daniel Hudson, Greg Holland, Franciso Liriano, Chris Martin, David Hernandez and Jared Hughes.

That is not a list of who is more valuable.  It is a list of who is most likely to be traded.  Big difference.

The methodology, if you can call it that, is pretty straightforward. We’re ordering players based upon a combination of trade value and trade likelihood.

Or not.

Im not trying to start a debate but a lot of those guys on that list are nowhere near as good or valuable as Colome.

So you think the players you listed are better relievers than Colome?

I'm leaning toward that too.  Nobody is going to pay their asking price.

I don't.  It's not my list.  No one ever reads the intro.
