Gotta get Moncada and Giolito done too. Those are gonna be more expensive.

  • Cool but who fucking cares

  • Really happy for James Fox / Y2Jimmy getting the credit he deserves. I don't have to tell anyone on this site but the man has paid his dues and put the work in. Good on Passan.

  • "Sox are gonna be good" by Passan just made my third leg move a little.

Huge signing

2 extra years of Robert. Excellent.

REally only 1 + a couple weeks.

Giolito is four seasons away from free agency, I think an extension could make sense for both sides.

Giolito could get paid much sooner, and could give the Sox two option years on the backend of a potential extension.

Moncada is also four years away from free agency, but a deal might be tougher there.

What would have been his remaining controlled years if he didn’t sign this deal?

Rick Hahn working his contract magic. Excellent

It is worth it to gain those option years during Robert's prime for sure

Now they can focus on a couple relievers and a righty-handed RF.  Mendick and Leury should be able to fill in for Madrigal.

7 - however long he would have had to stay down this year.

Uh, they gain a year plus in this deal.

The real win here though is any changes to the CBA regarding service time probably won't happen to a signed player.

I'm more concerned about Moncada getting away than Giolito. If Moncada has a season better than last year, give him the deal that they offered Machado with 2 mutual options on the backend.

This is true, but if you believe the CBA is going to address service time manipulation, you're better off having the guy signed.

So we still get our 7 years, plus another!  This is fucking awesome!

True, good point.

Moncada is going to be borderline impossible to get done I would think.

Man, I remember when I was talked down to for suggesting that Robert shouldn't disregard extension talks weird how that works

Hahn has time, but this is the guy you might just have to bite the bullet and pay large sums of money.

God that would suck.

I think the Sox could find a way to get Moncada done, although the numbers would likely be eye popping.

It would have to be a pretty big number. I'm hoping his talk about being on the White Sox for his whole career wasn't just pandering.

This is the best signing of the off season imo.  I am perfectly fine if Madrigal has to stay down for a month because I don't know what he really is at the plate.  This is the big one.
