Restaurants and bars need to be shut down until it is safe, and that industry should have done for it what Republicans are willing to do for farmers, with that ongoing socialist program, and airlines. Airlines got a huge bailout, and they employ 50,000 people and their senior execs are still getting paid huge salaries. Restaurants employ over 1,000,000 and they get a PPP loan which covered 2.5 months of payroll which is 60% of a restaurant’s expenses in a pandemic now entering its 10th month. It makes zero sense. In Canada they at least help with the rent. During the pandemic the restaurant pays 25% of its rent, the government picks up 50%, and the landlord eats 25%. That seems pretty reasonable.

When he said this virus will be behind us by Memorial Day, to his credit, he didn’t mention which year.

I don’t know why his wife should hop the line, but they are going to do that with Biden’s and Harris spouses as well.. Seems that is 3 doses that should be used on frontline healthcare workers first.

One of our Senators who is a 1st termer, and WAY younger also just got it.

I take more issue with those senators who played it down and now get the vaccine, I thought it wasn't that bad, thought it was just like the flu?

The anti maskers, all those downplaying it should go to the back of the line. Raging alcoholics don't go to the front of the line for a liver transplant.

Frontline Healthcare and nursing homes,, then essential workers like those who work in grocery stores and processing plants, then peoplle with conditions,  then older without,  then the rest of us.  Thats how I think this should go.

I don’t really care if the anti mask folks get the vaccine, they should eventually because it will encourage more broad vaccination and help beat the damn thing.

There is just no excuse for politicians to be at the front of the line ahead of health workers and nursing home residents. They should have to wait their turn like everyone else. 

I have no problem with them getting it, but I do have a problem if one person who actually took this seriously is delayed from getting it because of these phonies.

We should have a purity test to get it. 

Doses of vaccines are arriving regularly. A handful of high-profile government officials getting vaccinated even if they're high risk really just pushes the date everyone else gets vaccinated back by a day or two. I don't have a problem with the Pres, VP, Senate and House leaders getting vaccinated first, along with governors. Those who haven't completely given up their brains to conspiracy theories might be reassured.

Oh so because lots of people at the Capitol building are getting it he should get priority? I’m sure I can’t think of any other places where that’s true. Plus I’m sure there was nothing that could have been done to prevent that.

And oh, his job affects a bunch of people? So does the manager at the nearby Walmart. Vaccinate them. And he’ll, maybe if he was more worried about getting it, it would affect negotiations positively.

You can, reluctantly, convince me that Pence and Pelosi and Grassley should receive it on national security grounds as that is the succession line for the presidency. They cannot be replaced in an emergency. Mitch McConnell should follow the same rules as the rest of us, if it comes based on ages or risk or whatever he should have had to follow that, and if he waits until March, he should be just like some other peon. He’s working an important but not vital job. If he is incapacitated for weeks or dies, the Senate doesn’t shut down.

No one said “Heath care workers, nursing home residents, and important white politicians and businessmen (not women).” Something tells me that wouldn’t have gone over as well.

I'm not well-versed in Economics, so this is a serious question:

Why are these trillion+ stimulus packages getting doled out mostly to companies and states with essentially leftover scraps going directly to people?

I did the math and based on the number of people filing tax returns and how many dependents they claimed, and if a $1 trillion stimulus went 100% to taxpayers, that would be $4000 per adult and $2000 per child and it seems like that would keep all of us going for a while.

Is it just the reality that both parties are owned by corporations or is there actual benefit to the way it's getting done?

How many people, if any, are going to die because of some people having to wait an extra few days to get their vaccine? My mom's a nurse and she's been caring for patients for 9 months now and we've managed to keep our entire household from getting it this long, so I think we could manage another couple days.

Even if a few people die in the short term because of the wait but more people decide to get the vaccine, fewer people die in the long run.

Bad news, he's getting it before a lot of front line workers.

 

There's no good argument to protecting the man in charge of the coronavirus task force that has completely and utterly failed. None. Nothing of value would be lost if he were incapacitated.

We'd be more likely to get some relief measures if McConnell was laid out for a month

Is Mike Pence’s vaccination going to get more publicity on the Friday before Christmas or in mid January with an announcement that it’s more broadly available to the public? 

Are you ok with your mom having to treat patients for another day longer without it so that Mike Pence can stay healthy? I’m not. He’s a politician. Vaccinate every nurse. And everyone in nursing homes. Then worry about important white rich politicians in the next round. Nurses have earned it first.

One or two days isn't going to be a big deal (though she did get her first dose already). We're talking about a thousand or so doses out of millions available. I don't like Pence and don't trust that he will leverage his vaccine in a good way, but I'm not against it in principle, and the narrative that more deserving people are going to go weeks or months without it doesn't fit with the math involved.
