Of course that's true...but when Vaughan comes up we have about six guys that can hit 30 homers. Madrigal as a guy that gets on base at a .370 clip, steals 40 bases and plays gold glove second base...every day...seems more valuable than a short term shot at WS that is a bit of a gamble anyway. Those things seem very hopeful for Madrigal especially the stolen bases. Why wait on anyone when u can win now and next year ? The window is open .We are making the playoffs and maybe just a good SP pitcher away from a very serious shot to win it ALL this year. It's not a short shot at a World Series. Trading Madrigal and other non essential pieces for Lynn improves short term chances dramatically and doesnt do anything to hurt long term chances either.

However, are either of them attainable without trading top prospects? It's all about how much of the future they are willing to sacrifice.

It's all about how much of the future they are willing to sacrifice. The team is already very young but playing wining baseball. Madrigal and others represent a continued stream of success . But we have to weigh the future chances against current chances. Pitching wins championships especially when you already have a good but young BP and good hitting and lead the league in DRS. Keep as much pitching as you can and if have to deal some then choose among Lopez and guys who are further away. Keep Cease and Dunning. WE will need them after 2021 when Lynn is gone with hopefully a World Series ring already on their fingers. Edited August 28, 20205 yr by CaliSoxFanViaSWside

August 28, 20205 yr I don’t think Bauer is going to be available unfortunately. They’re a few innings away from picking up two games on the Cardinals today.
August 28, 20205 yr I might be wrong but I'd be surprised if there was a strong market for Madrigal. I can't see him headlining a package for a top tier starting pitcher.

August 28, 20205 yr I'm starting to wonder if the rumors of Vaughn being almost ready was a sly thing to prop him up for the trade deadline.

I think other GMs would feel the way you do Cali. 2nd base isn't particularly hard to fill. Madrigal doesn't have a very high ceiling due to his complete lack of power and his lack of elite speed. I don't think his value is all that high
