Vulture heres your hint buddy. dWAR exists historically. DRS does not.

Ok I guess brefs current explanation that drs includes pitch framing and that dwar is derived from drs since 2003 is incorrect and you are right

The reason people have issues with you and I know you don't care but you use trigger words with which the more sensitive people take umbrage. It makes it seem like you are condescending and superior.

They could have brought him back for less.  Huge downgrade to the catcher position.

  • Here are some of the many reasons the White sox will go with Grandal instead of McCann. 1. Trading Grandal this season will be a challenge. Not sure who will take on big contracts like that after

Hahn plugging holes while a crater opens up with McCann leaving. Collins is going catch 60 games or so for a championship team?

Can Collins take over if/when Grandal gets hurt?

Can Grandal maintain his performance level if he is leaned on to catch 120 games  next year? Didn't he have back issues last year?

Can Yermin be effective defensively ?  If so, the Sox should open a spot for Yermin on the 25 man roster as insurance against an injury to Grandal and in case Collins under performs.

If they sign a strong defensive catcher then the entire pitching staff will fight over throwing to him.  Hahn really put himself in the trick bag on this one.

Maybe the pitchers just need to be edgier and grindier.

Sox need a backup catcher and a DH until Vaughn is ready. Yadi is signed to split time with Grandal and Grandal plays DH or 1B when he’s not catching.  I wouldn’t like it, but sounds like something Tony would love.

Do not put this into the universe.

Yadi does have a sweet neck tat.

That's a real concern you have?

Yes.

So position players should be tougher but pitchers can be whiny and soft? Got it.

Yes.

The league and it's history is littered with defensive specialist backup catchers. That same history doesn't point to a mutiny on a pitching staff. Pitchers have preferences, but they don't make or break a pitcher or it's staff.

Thanks for the pro tip.

I did find it strange how openly and often Steve Stone would bash Grandal's catching abilities. I wonder if it is purely his opinion or if he spoke with pitchers on the team. Regardless, he needs to tone down his bashing of our starting catcher.

Anything I can do to add to your riveting posts and prose.

Lynn will love throwing to Grandal...he only throws high fastballs anyways

It's not a secret.

Harold's takes on grandal crack me up.

So, pitchers don't have to throw the pitches grandal calls; if that's the argument being made. Pitchers can shake off their catcher if they feel he's not on the same page. They can call their own game.

And grandal steals strikes which is more valuable than the occasional bone headed play. If a pitcher doesn't realize that then that's on them.

Hilarious to ask position players to be tougher all the while arguing to pamper pitchers.

That will change the first time he pulls a cutter on the corner out of the zone.

The Sox are so screwed with James McCann. Start the rebuild.

So we thought he was an elite pitch framer that would net White Sox pitchers additional strike calls, but in reality he is COSTING them strike calls? Don't buy that.

Framing can be measured harold so no one cares about your eye test.

That's fine.  You can listen to what Fangraphs says. I'll listen to what baseball people say.

A man who can literally speak with baseballs and hear what they have to say. Sounds like a Hollywood hit.

I'd buy a ticket to watch it.

And people wonder why baseball has fired 50% of their old school scouts.

Scout: "this guy costs his team countless strikes."

Real data: compared to every other catcher in the league, this player has gotten more out of the zone strikes called than anyone in baseball.

Scout: "i saw what I saw! Computers can't see, you nerd."

Thanks for your contribution, here's your severance.

Harold has clearly been told that pitchers on the team don’t like throwing to Grandal. Don’t know why people still argue about this with him.
