July 7, 20223 yr Probably worth a thread. Especially since James tweeted it. Also, Mahle is on the IL with a shoulder strain for those unaware.
July 7, 20223 yr The cool thing if they would have signed Schwarber is they would be a very similar team except instead of Gavin Sheets they'd have 25 more home runs

July 7, 20223 yr Only way this makes sense is if they need to put Kopech on the shelf for a while due to workload. Even if that's the case, I'd almost rather take my chances with Davis Martin and use the resources to get a lefty bat.

If anything they should be selling. I'm hoping they do nothing because they won't sell. Edited July 7, 20223 yr by Jack Parkman
July 7, 20223 yr I mean he isn't a LH OF bat, but it still improves the team. I wouldn't be willing to count on all of the starters to have innings left in the 2nd half, let alone not get injured.

Not saying he is good enough for the trade, but if a situation like last year arises and a trea turner type becomes available, you go for it because top position players are awesome and hard to get. But 'top pitcher on struggling team' is what I'd go after if we were comfortably in first. Honestly the Braves moves at the deadline make sense even if I don't think it would replicate near the success, but it allowed them to still go for it while not costing much of anything.

After last year and some interesting case studies I read about performance post trade, there might actually be something to dumpster diving at the trade deadline. I do agree that I don't want to trade a top prospect unless we are getting tons of control.

July 7, 20223 yr So how much of the meager farm are they going to mortgage in a desperate attempt to go for it? Instead of addressing any of the root causes for their struggles?
