White Sox Interested in Mahle/Castillo?

Featured Replies

Probably worth a thread. Especially since James tweeted it. Also, Mahle is on the IL with a shoulder strain for those unaware.

So how much of the meager farm are they going to mortgage in a desperate attempt to go for it?  Instead of addressing any of the root causes for their struggles?

Can they hit home runs

Yeah, they need a bat more than an arm.

Jerry was never going to sign off on giving Schwarber $100M after the Dunn debacle.

Schwarber didn't get 100M

Only way this makes sense is if they need to put Kopech on the shelf for a while due to workload.

Even if that's the case, I'd almost rather take my chances with Davis Martin and use the resources to get a lefty bat.

I was wanting Schwarber from the very beginning of the offseason. I don't remember anybody agreeing with me.

I thought he got 5/100 but it was 4/79. My bad. If I would have said $20M/year I'd have been closer.

Still, my point about Dunn stands.

It's because everyone wanted a real RF. When that didn't happen, yeah give me Schwarber over their plan of Sheets.

Let's not give Montgomery away attempting  to salvage a lost season.

If anything they should be selling.

I'm hoping they do nothing because they won't sell.

I mean he isn't a LH OF bat, but it still improves the team.  I wouldn't be willing to count on all of the starters to have innings left in the 2nd half, let alone not get injured.

They should try to get Bryan Reynolds in a down year.

I'm with Jack though. I don't want to give up Montgomery for a top pitcher. Not saying he is good enough for the trade, but if a situation like last year arises and a trea turner type becomes available, you go for it because top position players are awesome and hard to get. But 'top pitcher on struggling team' is what I'd go after if we were comfortably in first. Honestly the Braves moves at the deadline make sense even if I don't think it would replicate near the success, but it allowed them to still go for it while not costing much of anything.

After last year and some interesting case studies I read about performance post trade, there might actually be something to dumpster diving at the trade deadline.  I do agree that I don't want to trade a top prospect unless we are getting tons of control.

It doesn't have anything to do with Dunn.  They signed Grandal and he is a similar 3 outcome hitter

Can they throw India in since he is struggling and needs a fresh start

I wanted him before he signed with the Nationals, and again last winter.  But we already had Sheets and to some that was absolutely good enough.

Yeah but Grandal is a catcher and offense is hard to find from that spot. Big difference.

Rick Hahn winter of '22:  We need some pitching.

2 Grandal

3 Abreu

4 Leury

5 Burger

6 TA

7 Vaughn

8 Robert

9 Sheets

Rick Hahn summer of '22:  We can't get anyone out, we must need some new pitchers.
