It's crazy that Baldwin languishes in AAA on a night that a competent OF probably makes it a 50/50 game instead of a 75/25 one. A key hit instead of Taylor's DP and who knows. Or, maybe Baldwin in right as a good athlete that has shown versatility making a pinch start (you know, when you need that) makes a play.

Yes, and then allows his stupid manager start a 29-year old bum 1B in RF.

I am really failing to see how Venable is any better than Grifol, other than his “awww shucks” responses to the media for his losses.

I would love to see the Getz apologists justify this ridiculous Noda move.  What a clown…

I'm a bit sentimental with managers so I do like what Will seems to be doing inside the clubhouse but whoever the f*** is filling out these lineup cards isn't a serious person. We have some people here that excuse but it's not excusable. You can learn to win and lose as a younger player with habits and we need to start figuring out how to find some guys that set the example by being good at fucking baseball -- not whatever this s%*# is we see from Taylor and Capra and Rojas and others.

Bump. Vargas on track to finish around 1 WAR now.

Vargas is who we thought he was, regardless of a 50 game hot streak.  Some people claimed victory too quickly.

Vargas' history of being bad is still a much larger sample than him being good.

But he does have a pretty strong MiLB record in his favor…that said, right now he’s a below average regular 3B.

My point is said poster is ridiculing people who said Vargas looked like a Major League hitter when he was performing by calling it a “hot streak” whereas he can’t wait to call him a bust now that he’s actually only a cold streak.  I’d still happily bet money he heats up again and ends up well above a 100 wRC+ this year.

You’re really in no position to dunk on people who think he’s a bust either. Those PCL numbers from years past still haven’t translated to sustained success in the Majors.

Where is the dunk?

Not sure what dunking I did other than calling out someone for being hypocritical.

But attributing his Minor League success to the PCL Is completely off-base:

  • A: 140 wRC+ as a 18 / 19 year old
  • A+: ~120 wRC+ as a 19 / 21 year old
  • AA: 145 wRC+ as a 21 year old

Kid has hit at every level and was considered a blue chip prospect.  Hard for him to have demonstrated sustained success when he’s only in his second full season.

He's over 800 MLB PAs now. It's not like he is new here

937 plate appearances to be exact, that span across 4 seasons and 2 teams.

He had about 600 PA’s coming into this season…that’s basically one full season of at-bats.  My point is it’s hard to have demonstrated “sustained success” when you are only halfway through your second full season.  The reality is that Vargas is still very much a work in progress, but at least he has shown substantial improvement this season.  No one should be speaking with certainties just yet.  I believe his bat will continue to get better, but there are no guarantees there and he’ll need to hit a ton more if he can’t stick at 3B.

Right now he's 1-33 in his last several games if I got the figures right.

Blue chip prospect? That went for a mediocre rental SP? What in the world? He was damaged goods which is why we got him for 50 cents on the dollar.

He was historically awful for us last year and this season has been overall a below average regular that's trending poorly at 3B and at the dish. I'm sorry but we all want him to succeed and we gotta call it like it is. I hope he succeeds but the last 6 weeks have been rough and overall his career has been rough.

The body transformation was important it at least gives him a shot to be a MLB regular but there's more to success than just looking the part.

And there's more to failure than 32 PAs.

In 937 PA he's been worth -.8 fWAR. Sometimes I wonder if you're trolling.

The kid was a legit blue chip prospect (peaked at #29 overall for BA) and has done nothing but succeed in the minors.  His value was certainly suppressed when we acquired him as he had not shown any real success in the majors.  No one has ever argued otherwise though, so not sure I understand the hard flex here.  Also, calling Fedde a “mediocre rental SP” is quite the take when he was on a 4 win pace at the time of the trade and had another year of cheap control when we traded him.

Regardless, I’m always impressed that this site regularly thinks prospects are busts if they don’t immediately turn into above average players.  Kid has gone from a 64 wRC+ / -1.4 fWAR player in his first 600 PA’s to a 95 wRC+ / 0.7 fWAR player in his next 300 PA’s.  Even if we ignore the fact he’s in a cold streak, that’s tremendous improvement and at 25 years of age and only in his second full professional season there is plenty of room for growth.  But alas, it’s easier to assume he’s a finished product and automatically write him off then entertain the idea that he could get better with time.

Unfortunately, he isn’t looking like an above average player.  And during this rebuild, this team needs to generate multiple above average players and maybe even a star or two to succeed.  Afterall, that’s what all of this selling off of players and losing is for right?

So we are back to the 'this only his 2nd full season' BS. He's had over 600 AB's in the bigs and LAD burned through his options giving him multiple opportunities. If you want to squint at a hot streak and see it as his norm, by all means, you do you. But looking at his whole body of work in the bigs, seeing a hot streak for what it is and remaining skeptical is a perfectly fair position.

We've all buried the lede the bigger problem is he's run negative at 3b now. 4.3 runs below avg on FG, if he's not a decent 3B he's nothing even hitting league avg.

It sucks it doesn't give me joy to watch him struggle but it is what it is.
