November 2, 20232 yr I wish I could go back in time to 2017 and tell myself not to bother with this team
November 2, 20232 yr Seems about right. And, besides the Royals, weren't the Sox also tied to some Rockies' execs for consideration?
November 2, 20232 yr The Sox were ranked #2 in the 2022 version of these power rankings. So in conclusion: these lists are fucking stupid. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/32515195/way-too-early-2022-mlb-power-rankings
November 2, 20232 yr We don't need rankings to tell us this team won't be seriously contending for anything in 2024. Too many things would have to go right, and that hasn't happened much lately.
November 2, 20232 yr The White Sox can rebound...They can be that team that loses 90-100 and wins in a couple years. BUT They have they have to spend the money and spend it wisely (enough bullpen big contracts) Hire GOOD coaching to keep the team focused all season. They have to start DEVELOPING Young talent. No more drafting and signing talent and letting them "find themselves". Will they? Probably not.
November 2, 20232 yr They just need 3 or 4 starters, 3 or 4 bullpen arms, a few defensive upgrades (at LF, RF, SS, 1B, and C), and like 7 upgrades on offense (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, RF). Plus a good coaching staff and medical staff. Other than that, they're right there.

November 2, 20232 yr For funsies: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/34929129/2023-mlb-power-rankings-our-way-too-early-no-1 3. Padres 9. Cardinals 24. Rangers This is as dumb as The Athletic push alert I got 10 minutes after the Rangers won with 2024 betting odds

They have anywhere from five to seven position holes and at least three starting pitching holes and bullpen. I can’t remember when they last made one impact free agent signing, let alone ten.

November 2, 20232 yr I don't have time to read this ESPN article but does it mention that the only American League teams to not win a World Series are The Rays, Mariners, and White Sox?

Rangers took two seasons....but they had quality talent in the pipeline before Seager and Semien and then Eovaldi and Degrom. Jung, Heim, Lowe, Garcia, and Carter. Hence my comment about young talent. They have to do all three, not just spend. Then you're the Mets.

So if we look at their losses as the deciding factor. Both in the ALCS. Sox lost 3-2 to the Angels. Yankees lost 13-1 against the Red Sox. Yes, the Yankees were up against prime Pedro. But the Yankees had Clemens coming off back-to-back Cy Youngs (he had an average year, but w/e). Therefore,, logically the '05 White Sox are the greatest playoff team of all-time.

When you look at the pitching lines of so many playoff games these days with it being fairly routine for starting pitchers to go only a few innings, it is truly amazing what the White Sox accomplished in that 2005 ALCS against the Angels.

Of course we saw some of the consequences with Jose, Garland and Freddy Garcia down the stretch in 2006 and onwards...even Buehrle, although he recovered career-wise.
