January 24, 20242 yr Mauer’s case was a pretty easy Yes. His damage was as a catcher. Three batting titles with an MVP. Over 2000 hits. A franchise player, Being a good guy doesn’t hurt him either. Agreed it still would have been a long shot but he had Jaime Moyer type longevity in my mind and could have pitched into his 40s no sweat.

I think 250 would have gotten him in on the regular ballot. The future “lock” number for starters will be closer to 250 than 300.
