They’re bringing in dudes who suck but have good work ethic to try and show the importance of fundamentals and preparation to the young ones with talent.

Maybe it’ll rub off and unlock something. Stranger things have happened and hope springs eternal. ?

Who are the young guys they will be showing? Kind of hard to see if you are in Charlotte or Birmingham.

  • f*** it, I'm with @WestEddy. This is a winning move by a playoff-bound team!

  • Honestly, I don't think any ballplayers that can actually play the game at the major league level want to play for the chicago white sox in 2024.

  • We’re going to need designated hitters for most of our position players.

This team truly could lose 110 games.  We are just entering year zero of this rebuild. I support the new South Loop stadium just to get a target date on when they will try not to suck.

Nothing says can’t waste a year more than the guys Getz has picked up. Awesome.

Ehhh. I think this team will have a better record than 2023. It’s not like any of the guys we lost were worth a damn last season even if there was a lot of big names, and this team will at least play above average defense. Looks more like a 70 win team to me.

Probably, although looking at the bottom of that line up and considering Fedde and Soroka are 2-3 in your rotation, this thing could go South in a hurry.

Yah. It’s certainly not going to be an exciting brand of baseball.

I’m starting to think the White Sox are unaware of the tanking rules, and still think they have a shot at the first pick in 2025.

This would not be a surprise. It’s mid July 2024 when a reporter points this out in a sit down with TLR and he then says well you must know the rules better than me.

I think saying things COULD go south quickly is giving them too much credit. It’s more like WHEN they go south.

So is this what we’re looking at to start the season?  Those “reinforcements” can’t come soon enough, because it’s remarkable how little controllable talent would be on that Opening Day roster.  It also refinforces how critical it is for Getz to hit on a Cease trade.  Being competitive in a shitty AL Central by 2026 seems like a long shot without Dylan bringing back a couple of near major league ready pieces.

Lineup:

  1. Benintendi, LF*
  2. Vaughn, 1B
  3. Robert, CF
  4. Jimenez, DH
  5. Moncada, 3B#
  6. DeJong, SS
  7. Lopez, 2B*
  8. Pillar, RF
  9. Maldonado, CA

Bench:

  • IF: Sosa
  • OF: Phillips*
  • UT: Sheets*
  • BC: Stassi

Rotation:

  1. Cease
  2. Fedde
  3. Soroka
  4. Kopech
  5. Flexin

Bullpen:

  • CL: Santos
  • SU: Brebbia
  • SU: Leasure
  • MR: Garcia
  • MR: Hill*
  • MR: Lambert
  • MR: Drohan*
  • LR: Toussaint

Reinforcements:

  • Montgomery, SS*
  • Rodriguez, 2B
  • Colas, RF*
  • Shewmake, IF*
  • Lee, CA
  • Nastrini, SP
  • Eder, SP*
  • Mena, SP
  • Shuster, SP*
  • Speas, RP

If I was managing against the White Sox, I would walk Robert 4 times a game, or at least have the pitcher throw sliders 2 feet outside exclusively, and take my chances scoring 3 runs against the Sox pitching staff. I think if you take Robert out of the equation, scoring more than 2 runs is going to be a colossal challenge .

LOL they know. I heard from people prior to lottery that they were hoping to pick 7

It all comes down Yoan, Eloy, AV and Beni being what they can be for this to be anything better than a bottom 3 offense in the league. Sound familiar?

This organization deserves no benefit of doubt but this is a 4th outfielder competition move.

Pillar is not your starting  RF for 2024.

Nor is Phillips

Who is the starting RF then?  It doesn’t sound like it will be Colas, which leaves Sheets, Pillar, & Phillips.

Right. If it’s not Colas, which seems like it will 100% not be, it’s one of these guys.

Makes me want to buy a ticket plan.

It sort of feels like year -1 of the rebuild, at least on the offensive side, considering the ages I added to CWS’s reasonable guess at the opening day lineup

  1. Benintendi, LF* 29.7 (on opening day)
  2. Vaughn, 1B 25.9
  3. Robert, CF 26.6
  4. Jimenez, DH 27.3
  5. Moncada, 3B# 29.2
  6. DeJong, SS 30.6
  7. Lopez, 2B* 29
  8. Pillar, RF 35.2
  9. Maldonado, CA 37.6

Average age 30.1 ?

I wouldn’t put money on it if I were you.

This makes me wonder.  If the Sox acquired MLB ready talent in a Cease trade, like a RF and/or 2B, would they even be playing in the majors this year or would the Sox have them in Charlotte?  It sure seems like Getz wants to play these crappy no bat / all glove veterans.  He must dream about a lineup of 9 David Eckstein clones just like Jerry.

I see no evidence of a rebuild. Just picking up warm bodies and treading water is not a rebuild. Maybe they will try harder this year.

There is still guys available and we are still in off season

Yes, it’s the same pipe dream as it is every year.  I could actually see AV and Benintendi improving but we all know Moncada and Eloy will be injured at some point in the season, if not the majority of it.

Who?  It’s pretty obvious the Sox aren’t looking to spend any more than $3 to $5 million on any one player.

I have no doubt Pillar is their main plan for RF on opening day.  You may as well guarantee him the $3 million.
