The Guards are having a bad time.

Ongoing 9L streak, shutout 5 times in that stretch (and 8 times in the last month which is more than the Sox all season)

Tito would somehow have that roster in first

This should probably have its own thread. If Clase did something wrong here, and a past PED suspension, he needs to be gone.

same thing happened to his nobody teammate weeks ago. now we have an actual good player who is gambling on the game. of course this would fucking happen, the federal government needs to outlaw this garbage.

Statcast tracks Waste% for pitchers, basically the rate of totally uncompetitive offerings. Clase's is 17.5% for the first pitch of the 9th inning, and 5.2% for all other pitches.

Huge small sample size caveat naturally, but if there are outlier spikes of betting volume on these particular pitches like the Ortiz situation then I can see why flags would go up.

"This all makes more sense when you consider the Twins are reportedly $440 million in debt (they save $70 million from the Correa trade alone), but that's a galling amount of talent to part with and still consider yourself a big-league team. Fans can stop watching this team this year and, sadly, probably for a while."

"Luis Robert is essentially a reclamation project, given his struggles since his All-Star season in 2023, but you would have to imagine he'd be fine with removing himself from the White Sox organization in any way possible. Instead, he'll remain with a team currently holding a 40-69 record.

At least there are fewer ignominious records for the Sox to break this season."

"TWINS NEW MOTTO. rise as one mediocre franchise.  Falvey had the nerve to say some of what was done today was reality of a small to mid-market team.        The Twins have never charged small  to mid-market prices for tickets or  concessions since they moved into Target Field. The  customer service sucks. The reality is we have horrible management and development staff and talent evaluators. This group has been here 7 years.  Instead of  investing in area scouts, advanced scouting video and data analytics Joe Pohlad made cuts in all those areas including the baseball academy and international scouting . WE HAVE D- OWNERS and a rinky dink run franchise.  What a demoralizing day today was. There is not one way you can put a positive spin on what was done today.  Falvey has a lot of nerve saying what he said when most of his first round picks have been busts, or trades away and he has been in charge for 7 years. What we have is ownership with no championship pedigree, Calvin Griffith built those teams, no bold  vision and no ability to build a winning culture. Blame the fans all you want but the entertainment product sucks. The Pohlads are Zero's and stink at baseball. They lucked into buying it, lucked into Andy McPhail, Bob Gebbard,  and will profit from it historically."

It’s been just 21 months since an exciting, celebratory 2023 season in which the Twins won the division title and their first playoff series in two decades. There have been nothing but slashed payrolls, bad decisions, injuries, on-field collapses and various other sure-fire ways to wreck fan morale since then. Now, Twins fans are left hoping the trade deadline fire sale is followed by an actual sale, because 40 years of Pohlad ownership has led back to this familiar place that looks an awful lot like rock bottom. Fans deserve better, but they’re never going to get it until ownership changes.

Pierzynski trade tree grows

Shortly after the 2002 season, the Twins sent starting catcher A.J. Pierzynski to the San Francisco Giants for Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano and Boof Bonser. Nearly a decade later, in July 2012, the Twins traded Liriano to the Chicago White Sox in a deal that included Eduardo Escobar, who became a quality regular for five seasons. Then, in July 2018, they traded Escobar to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a trio of prospects that included Jhoan Duran. Another branch has now grown from the Pierzynski trade tree, with Duran going to the Philadelphia Phillies for 23-year-old pitching prospect Mick Abel and 18-year-old catching prospect Eduardo Tait. Pierzynski is the gift that keeps on giving. Maybe they should build the trade a statue.

Seems Nightengale is on the warpath against every Central team but Detroit…

“However, one move in particular regarding a lesser known player of the Twins’ rotation was the trade that really had others around the league puzzled: Minnesota’s trade of Louie Varland, the 27 year-old reliever who grew up in the St. Paul area and “absolutely loved being a Twin,” per Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Nightengale noted that “Varland was devastated, leaving Twins players seething and rivals GMs dumfounded as to why the Twins would actually trade a valuable reliever,” and that “his wife and a family (would come) to virtually every home game. This is the way you treat him?”
