New BA Mock. Posting through the Sox.

Quote

1.) Nationals - Ethan Holliday

2.) Angels - Kade Anderson

3.) Mariners - Aiva Arquette

4.) Rockies - Liam Doyle

5.) Cardinals - Eli Willits

6.) Pirates - Seth Hernandez

7.) Marlins - Jamie Arnold

8.) Blue Jays - Kyson Witherspoon

9.) Reds - Ike Irish

10.) White Sox — Billy Carlson, SS, Corona (Calif.) HS
It sounds like the White Sox are one of the teams who would take a shot on the high-risk, high-reward profile of Jace LaViolette. This could be his high-water mark after a disappointing season where he hit just .258. This could also be the ceiling for Tennessee hitters Gavin Kilen and Andrew Fischer. The White Sox rolled deep to see Tennessee during regionals and it wasn’t to scout Liam Doyle.

Some interesting notes in that mock for the Sox. Carlson would be ideal for me here. Jace's hit tool is super terrifying. Rolling deep to see Tennessee is eyebrow raising though. I like Kilen tons, but I would hope at a noticeable discount at 10. I like Andrew Fischer as well, he mashes and has a real enticing profile at the plate, but I still can't talk myself into a 1B with other options on the table. He would have to take a huge haircut at 10 right?

For some reason, I think Kilen is the guy

He was on their Area Codes Team in high school. Threy know him well as a Wisconsin prep.  I'm not a fan of taking a second baseman though and he hasn't done well with wood bats.

Aluminum bats should be illegal in college baseball.

Doyle has mock 2.0 up. Arnold falls into the Sox lap here.

Quote

10. Chicago White Sox
Jamie Arnold, LHP — Florida State
HOMETOWN: Tampa, Florida
HEIGHT: 6-1
WEIGHT: 195
BAT/THROW: L-L

Chicago lies in wait, pondering who will fall into their lap. The team does seem to like Carlson, but with Arnold ending up available, it muddles the water a bit. To save Arnold from slipping much further, we’ll slap him in the ten spot; however, there isn’t much conviction that this is the route Chicago would go.

Should things go a bit more chalk ahead of this, Carlson does seem to be well-liked in the organization.

Found it interesting Doyle had JoJo going 3rd overall. Says he might have the best hit tool in the class.

Also from the Kilen pick. More smoke from that Tennessee visit?

Word on the street is Kilen is unlikely to get out of the top 15 picks in the Draft. Teams above this, like the Athletics and White Sox, shouldn’t be discounted. The Rays have always seemed to prefer position players, and specifically position players with versatility and well-balanced tools. Kilen could move quickly and has the chops to play a number of positions.

Picking Kilen when the Sox already have Meidroth, Baldwin, Sosa, Gonzalez, Bergolla, Perez, Antonacci, and Mogollon -- all of whom project best at 2b -- would be an odd choice. I understand that you don't draft for need, but building a roster from 2b instead of ss would be so White Sox.

Any further White Sox intel with their first pick? Is Kilen truly in play here?
Carlos Collazo

Sounds like they are one of the teams really in on Jace, as mentioned in the mock. RE: Kilen, It sounds like he could be. Would it be any crazier than Seaver King going 10 to the Nationals last year? I don't really think so. They are different players, but we have them in a similar range on the board and there's less college hitting competition this year than last year. A run on college bats will come and teams will only have so many options if they want that coveted demographic.

From the BA draft chat with Carlos.

10.) White Sox - Tyler Brenmer

Bremner is the other name who’s moved up a lot, as he’s mostly recovered from a bad start to the year and posted some fantastic numbers over the season’s final month. He came into the year with a ton of hype as the top college righty in the draft, so there’s an argument that this would be excellent value for the spot. I believe they’d take any of those college lefties over him if they got here. I’ve also heard them with Steele Hall and Kruz Schoolcraft. I don’t think Seth Hernandez would get past this spot.

Those are some new names with the White Sox. I do really like Steele Hall. Schoolcraft definitely fits the White Sox type, but I imagine it would be at a pretty hefty discount. Good to know they would snap up Seth as well.

I’d be shocked if they took Tyler Bremner. He doesn’t get much extension and that’s a big Bannister thing. Steele Hall makes a lot of sense though and would likely be a discount.

Laviolette is risky business but damn the profile is tempting and fits probably the biggest need in the system. A big power left handed bat. I’d probably go elsewhere but do feel more confident with Fuller as the hitting guy opposed to years past when it comes to fixing a hitter.
