2025 MLB Draft

I’ve watched Gamble highlights for a few years now, as IMG posts a lot of their games.  He has a beautiful swing. If he adds power, he’s going to be a very good player.

  • July draft sucks. Wastes a lot of developement time.

  • Also - f*** these new rules.

  • Walker was the Sox first pick (Comp round overall 47) who was a huge surprise when selected from a Utah CC. Literally no one thought he was a first rounder but Kenny saw him play one game and came awa

Moving the draft to July was so stupid. I don't understand the rationale at all.

Thought it would bring more attention during All star festivities! Big mistake!

I don’t think Hall will be much of a discount at 10. Carlson and Parker definitely won’t be. If it’s a prep guy, I’m guessing it’s minimum $6 million at 10. I think they spend $3 million at 44 and between $1.5-$2 million at 76. I think they’ll try to push Fauske or Gamble to 44.

I like the Gamble part of the equation. The slot for #10 is $6.2 and it drops all the way to $4.2 at #20.   Work a deal with someone expecting to go 15-30 instead and the Sox will have all sorts of power in the rest of the draft.  And the 10-20 talent seems clustered anyway.

I don’t agree. I hate this college class. I’d rather pay Steele Hall $6 million then do another Jacob Gonzalez situation.

New Pipeline mock. Mayo version.

10. White Sox: JoJo Parker, SS, Purvis (Miss.) HS (No. 9)
Could this be part of a package deal, where the White Sox take JoJo’s twin brother, Jacob, in Round 2? Maybe. JoJo could go higher than this, so Chicago could look at other prep infielders like Kayson Cunningham, Steele Hall or Daniel Pierce.

New Doyle mock.

10. Chicago White Sox
Billy Carlson, SS — Corona
HOMETOWN: Corona, California
HEIGHT: 6-1
WEIGHT: 178
BAT/THROW: R-R

The White Sox have had private workouts and extended meetings with Carlson as they’ve worked to get to know him as a person and as a player. Chicago was at almost all of his games in some fashion all spring. The team purportedly is targetting Carlson as their shortstop of the future, a position that isn’t quite clear within the farm system right now.

Arnold being here is, again, the surprise. It would be quite shocking if he was still on the board, and any number of teams could snatch him up over the last few picks. But for the purpose of this mock, we’re sticking with player/team rumors.

Latest BA mock is the nightmare scenario in which all the college pitching slides. Willits, Carlson, and Parker all go top 8, leaving the Sox with Jamie Arnold. In that scenario, I honestly think they take Steele Hall, but who knows? Sox gotta get hitters.

3.) Mariners - Aiva Arquette

4.) Rockies - Ethan Holliday

5.) Cardinals - Eli Willits

6.) Pirates - Seth Hernandez

7.) Marlins - Billy Carlson

8.) Jays - JoJo Parker

9.) Reds - Ike Irish

10. White Sox — Jamie Arnold, LHP, Florida State
It sounds like the White Sox might be into both Billy Carlson and JoJo Parker but get a shot at neither in this mock. The best players available are college arms—Jamie Arnold, Kyson Witherspoon, Tyler Bremner—and the top pure hitter in the class, Texas prepster Kayson Cunningham. Cunningham’s market could start a bit later than this, and Arnold would fit Chicago’s low-slot lefty tendency. College hitting options could include Jace LaViolette, Gavin Kilen or Marek Houston.

Yea. Give me Hall over anyone else if the board falls this way.

This close to the draft, is there anyone out there who is has a feeling who the Sox top priorties are vs who THEY would pick if available (realistically of course)

Haven't seen Harold in a while.

Unfortunate if the troll chased him off.

But why possibly draft for need at this point instead of just taking BPA, especially with some prime up the middle guys on the radar for top picks next year?

In this scenario, the available SS look like reaches to me. Either take a college pitcher (if we passed on Jac for a college pitcher, we could pass on one of the 2nd tier SS); or, even better, go underslot (Jace, e.g.  risky, yes but we need hitters; or a different HS SS). A good HS SS should be there for our 2nd pick; plus we’ll be able to use each of our 2-10 picks.

I don't think Hall is drafting for need. He might line up favorably with who the BPA is at this point based off who is still on the board. All things being equal give me the tooled up high ceiling up the middle player.

That being said I wouldn't be unhappy with a Witherspoon selection at 10.

I think Hall goes 12 to Texas if it’s not the Sox. He’s not a reach. I’d be unhappy with any of the college pitchers, personally.

I take it that you see these pitchers as a level below Smith from lasty draft?

From your piece (btw link in your post above is bad):

15 homer potential in the future but his aggressive style comes with some swing and miss concerns.”

Sounds modest.

They're all below Smith, yes. And the top college bats would've likely gone in the teens last year.

Love the mock. Lotta great info. Would love Carlson + Gamble. On small typo: you write that Marek Houston struggled in SEC play. Pretty sure you meant ACC play. Keep up the great work!

Thanks, James. Good stuff. Not sure if you can edit it still, but you took your finger off the shift key too quickly in your paragraph on the #1 overall pick.

I didn't realize that you had done a 2nd mock.  I was still looking at the Hall mock.  sign me up for Carlson.

Anyway, Teel the younger looks interesting for round 4.

Thanks. I appreciate that. I fixed it. Thanks for looking out.

Good catch. Going 31 overall would be insane.

Yeah Billy Carlson would be fun if they can get him. The brother is a super young dude who likely sticks in CF. Interested to see where he goes.

Was just looking at KLaws top 100 rankings (not draft projection, but actual rankings) and the interesting thing is he has Steele Hall 36th by far the lowest of the mentioned White Sox potential targets.

Others include:

Parker 10

Carlson 11

Irish 5

Arnold 7

Witherspoon 9

Cunningham 15
