Christopher Morel is an intriguing player. Type of guy I wish the White Sox would go after.

Big upside

I like this deal for the Cubs

Wrigley isn’t a great fit for his pull approach

Cubs being buyers is hilarious.

Can’t play a position, like at all.

Looks like a lateral move similar ages same power plus prospects given up

Ironically, Paredes was a Cubs prospect to begin with but they traded him in 2017 with Jeimer Candelario and cash to the Detroit Tigers for Alex Avila and Justin Wilson.  What a terrible trade that was.

No.

I would never trade with the Rays. They always win it.

Saw that reliever they got from the Cubs the other day, he had ridiculous stuff

Good trade for the Cubs, I think. I don’t like it when I sell the Rays short. They are smarter than I am.

it’ll hurt the north siders down the line

Their two trades seem like retooling for the next few years, not just for this season.

They acquired Pearson as a reclamation project that they may try to turn back into a starter.

They also needed a 3B because Morel can’t play defense.

you can’t retool when you’re trading away multiple prospects and a guy who is good for the clubhouse plus equal power to the player you just acquired

Ha, they have reacquired both of those guys, right?  Didn’t they have Candelario to finish out last season?

But Morel can’t play defense

Morel has power but he is below the Mendoza Line this year and can’t play a position.  They now have a legitimate young 3B.

Go take a look at what Morel’s putrid defense does to his overall WAR.  Meanwhile, Paredes is a 4 WAR guy because he is good on offense and defense.  It really isn’t close.  Right now, Paredes is a much better player than Morel, and they are both 25.

Yep, haha.

This is a weird one for the Rays who don't usually love offense first guys.

Arozarena was dumped partially for that reason.

Must see something fixable on. one side of the ball or other.

This. They will figure out a way to unlock Morel's potential. On the surface it looks like a decent win-win type move, but Paredes savant is really quite something else.

If this was straight up, I like the deal for the Cubs. If it was even Morel and two lower level prospects, I still like it. Bigge and Morel? Nope.
