I feel like the TLR equivalent would be Mike Ditka.

I think both candidates are strong so this would be AJ Hinch and Dave Roberts or something.  And I do think for all the worry about these randoms - Bears have 2 really good choices.

TLR would be closer to Pete Carroll.

Not really shades of anything, TLR wasn’t against anyone.  He just got the job

Pete Carroll doesn’t deserve that.

I think the closest we could actually compare is the part of TLR being played by Bobby Petrino in his Falcons/Arkansas era

I’m trying to come up with a coach who told the other team to beat up his players after they celebrated a touchdown in a 35 point blowout and who insisted they play with leather helmets because that’s the way the game was when it was played correctly and I have no examples of this.

Mike Gundy?  Jim Jordan wrestling?

The funny thing is it seems like the examples in the nfl of coaches past their prime being brought back, a lot of them that I can think of did well, specifically Dick Vermeil 😂

What are you even talking about man.  Sometimes you can delete these things

Who is a bigger jackass than Gundy in college football?

There isn't one...maybe Dabo.

The question wasn’t “who is the biggest jackass you can think of who is tangentially connected to the nfl”, but I will note your distaste for those two and bring that up sometime in the future when it doesn’t make sense in the conversation.

Or not post them...

I'd say the parallel for TLR was the Joe Gibbs return to Washington.

I’m officially out on Flores. That Fitzpatrick interview was really damming. Basically validated a lot of Tua said.

Bears have to stay so far away from him - pairing him with a young qb knowing what they know would be malpractice with the other options out there.

well s%*#, I take that back I did NOT remember he made the playoffs 2 out of 4 years which was definitely one of the best runs in the Snyder era.

He doesn't,  but it's mostly an age thing.

I think for Flores to get an HC gig, he'd need to go to college and end up having a college QB that is a big time recruit and leaves advocating that Flores was completely different with him, as well as his assistants.

It sucks but that Fitzgerald thing is just so similar to what it sounded like with Patricia, except clearly Flores is a way better coach in every other way.

That’s fair, although Joe went out with a 9-7 record lol

yeah chalk that up to youthful memory, he was much better than I realized. I think where I was at the time Parcells and Gibbs at that time seemed underwhelming what they were doing in dallas/washington because it was super hyped maybe? It's hard to remember years now.

Well I have a new favorite reporter, killer work here:

Bears get torched there. In particular McCaskey and Teddy given how much they clearly relied purely on ole Trace.

Great article. That agent connection has been getting a lot of play on local sports radio stations recently. Especially while this coaching search is underway. It’s good to see national exposure on this issue

It makes me wonder whether Warren is one of the good guys in all of this. Someone who is overseeing the search to make sure the best candidate is selected, and agent representation is not a factor.

I had the exact same thought.
