You and the lump lumps will care. Normal people don't scour the internet looking for something to feel shame over. We got a good, albeit light return for Cease.

But apparently they do scour it to find other people to shame.

  • Woof. River Ryan is a nice prospect, but is 26, injured, and a pitcher. Oh yeah, and Gavin Lux is Gavin Lux. The hardest of passes.

Caulfield implied that we will all be waiting around to see if the Padres get a better return for Cease than they gave up. I won't be. Does that shame you, somehow?

I never said ALL lol.

It's not like positive and normative arguments in Econ 101.  Not everything is black and white.

But a majority of the board will at least be interested unless watching Cease develop over all those years meant nothing at all to Sox fans.

Wouldn’t describing the Cease trade as providing a “light return” be admitting that the return wasn’t good enough or as good as it should have been?

Return was fine. Could have been better.

Collusion is illegal, but it would be a very weird and amusing variation of it if the other 29 clubs "spontaneously decided" not to trade with the Dodgers between now and Opening Day. There'd be seven potential releases to pick over without loss of prospects.

I'm of the belief that the White Sox should not do business with the Dodgers (or Cardinals).
There was absolutely no reason for the Dodgers to rip-off the Sox like they did with Vargas.  I know Getz should have known better, but he didn't, and they knew he didn't.    Intentional win-lose trades aren't good for the game or for either team.
The Dodgers could recompense a bit with some giveaway trade to clear their 40 man; but not for any sort of prospect - not even a lottery pick.

Yeah I’ve accepted it could have been better but he was coming off a down year. Hopefully Zavala blows up.

Well, if he does, it turns into a great trade assuming Thorpe is a decent starter.

I’m hoping Steven Wilson can bounce back and become a good trade chip just due to reliever weird randomness.

He used to be okay in SD...except legit high leverage situations.

More like the leader of the second string relievers in losses and mop up.

C'mon man. No way.

Probably a long shot but crazier things have happened.

RHP Alex Faedo of Tigers dfa'Ed to make room for Tommy Kahnle.

Dramatically different numbers, 0.6 bWAR and -0.5 fWAR.

B grade for move   notes concerning injury history BUT "Here's another important note: He has a hilarious personality, drinks Red Bull on game days and shows emotion on the mound — all of which make him a perfect fit among the players in the Tigers' clubhouse."

Re-watching Ted Lasso with my better half in the evenings and I said to her the other day "boy, these Richmond fans really love their club no matter what" and my wife commented "kinda like you and the White Sox" to which I responded "Not any more, I hate them." I then proceeded to check in at Soxtalk.

Cubs/Padres discussing Cease reunion

"Coupling Owen Caissie or another touted outfielder like Kevin Alcantara with a controllable arm that lacks Cease’s ceiling but could be a third or fourth starter (e.g. Wicks, Assad) could hold some appeal to a Padres club that lacks rotation depth, a clear left fielder or designated hitter, and has a shaky-at-best collection of options to fill out manager Mike Shildt’s bench."

"Chicago has younger names like Jordan Wicks, Ben Brown and Caleb Kilian on the 40-man roster, with prospects Cade Horton and Brandon Birdsell climbing the minor league ladder."

"Cubs: Brandon Birdsell, RHP
The Cubs named Birdsell their Minor League Pitcher of the Year after he posted a 3.91 ERA and led the system in innings (135 2/3), strikeouts (134), K percentage (24 percent) and walk percentage (5 percent) while splitting his season between Double-A and Triple-A. His best attributes are a mid-90s fastball that reaches 98 with carry and command and an upper-80s slider with nice depth."

Old friend alert:

Dodgers designated RHP Ryan Brasier for assignment.

The Dodgers’ 40-man roster is so loaded that they had to make a very difficult decision on who to remove to free up a spot for Kirby Yates and unfortunately this time it was Brasier left on the outside looking in. The 37-year-old hurler should attract plenty of attention on waivers after registering a 3.54 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 25/5 K/BB ratio over 28 innings with the Dodgers in 2024.

Imagine being a fan of a team that dumps a good cheap reliever to make room to sign an even better and more expensive closer.

I hope the Dodgers win the next 5 World Series and make every other cheap team eat 💩.

The Dodgers DFA Braiser.  Man they're hangin on to those injured pitchers like grim fuckin death.  Well they likely still have at least 3 more moves to make so hopefully they cut one of them loose.

They are a legit organization and care more about talent than money.  In the same situation, the Sox would’ve probably cut a young guy over potentially burning $4.5 million.  Or Getz would be frantically trying to trade Brasier for the most cash considerations offered, along with a 27 year old Single A reliever.
