Getz should take a shot on Buddy Kennedy. No idea what the Phillies want back, but he’s out of options and not making their roster.

Mitch Haniger the next veteran Sox outfielder?  Mariners just cut him.

"Four players who were competing for roster spots — Oscar Gonzalez, Tyler Wade, Mason McCoy, and Luis Campusano — are no longer in big league camp. The immediate futures of Connor Joe and Eguy Rosario currently remain unclear. Joe, Gonzalez, McCoy, and Campusano can be optioned to the minors, while Rosario and Tyler Wade cannot."

Haniger has been bad for 2 years in a row.  He’s 34 and probably toast.

Benintendi, Robert, Tauchman/Slater. Which one is Haniger better than?

Benintendi, Tauchman, and Slater.

Looking at the stats, I would have to disagree.

Eh, I don't think so. I think Haniger's toast and the guys you mention are only "almost toast."

Unless Haniger has some defensive value that I'm not aware of.

Will be interesting to track stance tweaks now. Also, Eloy certainly is a unique one.

Sounds like a great fit.

Haniger's definitely better than Michael A. Taylor...but it all depends on when you're trading Robert and how important CF defense is going to be after that trade, versus having any semblance of an offense.

Haniger contributes nothing to any "semblance of an offense". Dude's done.

Michael Taylor is the textbook definition of done.

And there was no reason to sign him so early when he should have been an NRI like Drury Gallo Dalbec or Narvaez at the end of ST.

Plus, Seattle suppresses offense.

We might as well argue Rojas is done, too.

Why? Rojas just posted his 2nd highest bWAR in his career last year. In the "offense suppressing" environment of Seattle. Michael A. Taylor still plays plus defense.

”Alexander Canario had two homers, including a grand slam, in the Mets’ 10-2 rout of the Marlins on Sunday.

He also singled.  When we checked in on Canario a week ago, he was just 3-for-25 with a .621 OPS this spring.  Now he’s 11-for-35 with a 1.058 OPS.  He still doesn’t make sense for the Mets roster, but it seems far more likely now that he’ll be claimed by some team (Colorado?) if he goes on waivers.”

Looks like they couldn't find another team willing to pay enough of Starling Marte's remaining contract to be a bench player on the Mets...

I’m sure the Mets would love to but I doubt there is any hope of that.  The Mets would have to pay a ton of Marte’s remaining money.  Another poster mentioned this very early on — that Canario probably wouldn’t remain with the Mets simply because Marte is owed $19.5 million for this year.  Yikes…

If the Mets DFA Canario soon, I hope Getz is all over him.  Other posters have noted Canario’s swing and miss issues, and they are correct, as he has 15 strikeouts in 43 plate appearances this Spring.  But he has also drawn 7 walks and shown his power with 3 bombs, including a grand slam.  I still think he’s worth a shot.  He’s only a year older than Meidroth and could be a part of the next good young Sox team, even if he is just a platoon OF/DH at best.
