Mike Tauchman to White Sox

Tauchman is a perfectly fine role player at what should be $2M to $3M.  I don’t think adding him is about getting a potential trade deadline asset, but more so a veteran stopgap and clubhouse presence.  I will wait to see what other moves happen being drawing conclusions here.  I don’t love the idea of an all veteran OF next year, but I kind of think Robert or Benintendi is getting moved.

This is far too reasonable.

With an option to not rush their development because you have no other options.

I see these types of signing as guys volunteering to go as tribute.

Fletcher is 27, DeLoach is 26 and Colas is 26. If not now then never.

Yep, these guys aren’t even truly young anymore.

Why? I'd rather give at bats to Fletcher, DeLoach and Colas.

With the additions of Slater and Tauchman, I’d like to know what the plan is.  Unless both Robert and Benintendi are traded, will these guys get any playing time this year?

DH is open since Sheets is thankfully gone. And for sure one of Robert or Benintendi is getting moved. I'd assume Robert.

I'm not going to be overly upset at this move. Good defense and will work an at bat every time he is up, something this team desperately needs and wants to preach. Hopefully it's contagious.

2023: “this guy will bring a valuable clubhouse presence”.

2024: “oh my god did we learn nothing from 2023”

I’m not following.  Are you suggesting the veterans we brought in last offseason like DeJong, Lopez, & Maldonado were bad clubhouse guys?

I’m suggesting that 2023 did not go very well and that the results of 2023 might indicate a flaw in the concept itself.

Colas has no future with this team. Been obvious for awhile that they don’t like him. Fletcher will get plenty of starts with Robert getting moved. Deloach is AAA depth, when someone inevitably gets hurt. Nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, I don’t think last year went off the rails because we brought in too much veteran leadership.  But if your theoretical plan for 2025 is to have a roster with basically no veterans, then I find that to be quite the take.

Bringing in white guys and declaring them leaders by default can never fail. It can only be failed. The 2023 White Sox were brilliantly led by their great leaders, it is only us who fail to understand the greatness of their leadership.

Nothing wrong with this signing, but certainly not exciting.  If we can read anything into this, which I necessarily wouldn't, maybe Benintendi and/or Robert is being moved.  Fletcher is probably the most likely to get more playing time via a vacated OF position, and he could play anywhere.

The relevant question for the White Sox should be “is he a guy anyone would trade for at the deadline”.

There it is.

Dude, you’re off your rocker. Perhaps you’re extra bitter lately because the Cowboys suck.

You can get inspiration form fiction.

You’re calling me a Cowboys fan and I’m off my rocker?

Oh I know the solution, you need more veteran leadership.

Too many white players. That's a take.

“The 2023 White Sox were well led and that is the type of thing we should repeat, find me more players who look like that” is the kind of thing we should be pointing and laughing at.

Maybe this means we have some decent (acceptable) offers for Robert.. Why would we sign two OF on major league deals (Tauchman and Slater) otherwise..

We went through like a dozen OFs last year.

Especially when you pretend to be quoting somebody. I hope you don't smoke. You're house would go up in a minute with all these strawmen lying around.

If that was an actual quote and not something you just made up, then yes, we should definitely be pointing and laughing.

I get the Slater one as weak side platoon but signing a strong side platoon guy for sure seems odd unless both Benintendi and possibly Robert are going.

Because I would for sure just rather run out Fletcher or DeLoach, guys you actually gave up something to get.

JFC dude, do you make everything about race?  Like, where did I ever mention anything about Tauchman being white?  He’s a veteran…full stop.  He appears to be a fairly professional dude with no major red flags.  He’s a disciplined hitter who makes good swing decisions.  He doesn’t have to be Barrack Obama to lead by example and provide a positive influence on the younger players.

Also, you keep bringing up the 2023 White Sox, a team that literally imploded because of poor chemistry and underperformance under an incredibly weak first year manager.  Guess who they lost the offseason before?  Jose Abreu, a great clubhouse presence and role model to the younger guys.  You may think these guys are all robots, but having good veteran leadership does matter.  It’s absolutely wild to me that you think otherwise and are race baiting on top of it.
