On one hand it’s good to see Sox making effort to catch up in the IFA market. On the other hand, even if these kids pan out, we won’t see any major contributions from these targets until 2035..

Sure, but you have to start somewhere.   And I would rather see this vs another over the hill utility guy or mediocre reliever.

The White Sox will also bid 300 million.

Wait, what?  The bidding is in dollars,  not Yen?  Nevermind.

Well that article was in Korean won/KRW.

A bit strange for a highly-hyped NPB player...to play the "insiders" role here early.

Well that was a joke you apparently missed.  Stand down.

The White Sox still might not spend even if KRW was equal to USD...

From spending two weeks in Osaka and Kyoto this summer... it reinforced how expensive everything in Japan is.

Tokyo even felt more affordable two years ago.

Playing at the top of the market is interesting.  Can't imagine some under the table money prior to signing doesn't exist.  I also notice that if it is paid in 2030, and there have been a lot of ifs already, it would be after Ishbia is in control.  Could this be a signal that under him things will be different or am I over reading things?

I dont think you're misreading things at all. There's  no JR money involved in this and no JR jurisdiction.

wild they're spending more on international guys years out than the 2026-27 actual MLB roster...

Do you have figures to back up your wild claim? Kind of hard to spend on the 2026 and 2027 rosters right now without having players with multi year contracts but rest assured they will have 26 players in each year making at the very least the MLB minimum of $760K x 26 =$19,760,000 in 2026 so x 2 for 2027 would be another roughly $20M . So were looking at a minimum of close to $40M  that will be spent in 2026 and 2027 ( a strike may change the figures) on the MLB rosters and likely much more since all 26 players will not be making minimum wages. What's your figures for international spending so far on guys years away. Give me players names that have already received money from the Sox for the 2026 through 2030 international classes along with the amounts they have received. .Officially the Sox can't even say they've reached agreements let alone provide monetary amounts yet you can ?

Every team in MLB has agreements with kids as young as 12/13 in Latin America, the Dominican Republic especially. The Sox and this new regime are now playing at the top of the market. James Fegan, Hector Gomez, and Frances Romero have all linked the Sox to guys in future classes.

And buying prospects has nothing to do with the ML roster. What are you talking about?

Ofc it does.

JR has always consistently prioritized spending on the MLB roster over amateur/intl. talent and the minor leagues.

At least from 1981-2016/17.

it's also part of the reason the Dominican and Pacific Rim have been such a wasteland for the better part of twenty years.

Also, whether Keller can actually get signed commitment checks from Ishbia or JR these next 2-3 seasons is a question nobody has the answer to as of yet.

I don't think that's true.

Ever since the 2012 CBA came into effect, the Sox have spent all the money allotted to them to sign amateur talent in both the draft and free agency. Every year under Mike Shirley, they've exceeded their bonus pools to sign their guys.

I think the reports of them signed guys in classes of 2-3 years down the line, Is enough of an answer to that question.

I was responding to a Caulfield post which I quoted so you should know what Im talking about. Maybe try reading what he said to elicit my response.

These are handshake agreements. There is no money exchanged officially and anything else is a direct violation of MLB rules until there is a signature on a contract at the age they can sign which I believe is 16.

Sure, but that doesn't mean they're going to suddenly open the spigots again on the older players like Robert Abreu Alexei Ramirez that weren't subject to the intl signing pool limits due to age.

Okamoto Murakami Imai etc.
