I wonder if these bonuses are agreed to so early that as the player continues to age and mature, their price does too. They may have had those numbers agreed upon for a year now. 🤷🏼‍♂️

This is definitely a thing. Guys get money at like 14-years-old. Sometimes they get way better and sometimes they get way worse.

Anderson Gomes flashbacks, lol...

Well, they now have perhaps their most exciting outfield candidate, to go along with Braden Montgomery, Zavala and George Wolkow.

Is Chris Getz a "genius" or he was simply in the right place at the right time (just like the Pirates with Morel) to strike a blow against the Evil Dodgers' Empire?

Or they're so far out of the loop with these guys (due to scouting losses) is all they can do is research the signing class and simply throw money at Dodgers, Padres and Toronto (Christopher Polanco looms large, SS) 2025 potential signings????

David Keller has been all over the marketplace

Does anyone have an idea where Patiño would rank in the Sox top 30 at this point?

He won't rank. We will have a tough time ranking Alejandro Cruz at this point. The system is pretty damn good.

  • I’ll have an international article out in the morning that offers plenty of context with Keller quotes etc.

  • I know. Just the concept of  A) A 12-year-old prospect inking that  B) It getting announced 5 years before it can legally be signed, with details about a prior contract falling through

DeVries at #90-100 was pretty much the only guy who was immediately noticed for overall MiLB rankings.

Salas took a year.

Sasaki will immediately start out at 5-10, no higher than 15 for sure.

Since the Dodgers picked this guy and they actually know how to scout internationally...#14-16 in the Sox system doesn't seem that far off.

He's the #81 international prospect right now...

So revise my #14-16 to late 20's/early 30's in Sox system ranking.

Still the most exciting overall outfield prospects after Montgomery in terms of overall God-given tools.

Splitting hairs, but he's 81st by bonus from BA, not necessarily the 81st prospect in the class.

The official Top international prospects list only goes 30-50 deep, right???

MLB Pipeline and Baseball America/Badler...

Looks like they expanded to Top 100…

Yeah Pipeline does a top 50 ranking where BA unveiled the top 100 by bonus, was at 50 before the most recent update I believe. I think even Fangraphs went up to 50 as well.

When are the Sox going to sign and draft athletic outfielders? Sox missed on Bradfield two years ago.

some more video on Patiño

Found this touching video from over a year ago…this is what it’s all about, the dream of so many growing up

in extremely difficult conditions.

Were most of these already agreed to or are there any other Dodgers/Padres/Blue Jays defections?

Pretty Sure Patino is the only defection to us so far.

And Morel to the Pirates for even bigger money...

Would have expected news of teams trading cash/pool money to LA SD Toronto by now.

Toronto has at least 4-5 prospects that are upper tier but all the attention on the two West Coast teams right now.

Fwiw, Toronto believes their "splitter" factory/pitching philosophy might be one of the reasons they made the final cut.

Unfortunate that they couldn't get a live signing video out today with Cruz and/or Patino.

Makes it feel more like mlb draft//NCAA signing day excitement.

Did they sign more/less guys than usual?

By my eye, that seems like the biggest amount from the DR I can remember.  I could be totally wrong.

Cris Rodriguez, OF, Tigers: Rodriguez receives a $3.2MM bonus from Detroit, per Badler. Already 6’4″ and 200 pounds with his 17th birthday still two weeks away, Rodriguez stands out for his bat speed and raw power. Badler calls him a potential 30-homer slugger who’ll probably settle into a corner but for the time being runs well enough to have a chance in center. MLB.com’s report calls Rodriguez a “near carbon copy” of Eloy Jimenez at this same age, even down to hailing from the same city in the Dominican Republic and possessing a similarly aggressive approach. The Tigers will hope Rodriguez can do a better job of avoiding injuries, but Rodriguez possesses thunderous power — more so than any other player in this class.

Damning with faint praise.

Turning back to the rest of the class, Badler has a team-by-team breakdown of the most prominent signings over at Baseball America, as well as scouting reports and (in some cases) projected bonuses for as many as 100 players. Longenhagen runs through his own list of 50 international prospects with their expected team and signing bonus over at FanGraphs, as well as a detailed look at some of intricacies and idiosyncrasies of Sasaki’s unique free agent saga. Romero runs through 35 high-profile international talents and their expected team/signing bonus at his site as well. At MLB.com, Jesse Sanchez and Jesse Borek have their own ranking of the top 50 in the class, with scouting reports on each. Those interested in the finer details of this year’s collection of international amateurs are highly encouraged to check out those resources in full. Badler, Longenhagen, Romero, Sanchez and many others around the baseball world dedicate enormous portions of their time and efforts to covering this topic to the fullest.
