I don’t think it’s the worst thing for him to see what he needs to work on if/when he struggles. It’s not ideal, but maybe selfishly it at least gives me 3 at bats to watch during a game?

White Sox baseball and entertainment value?

WHAT?

I think the last time that was a consideration was the Field of Dreams game in August, 2021.  Or the Leury GS game in the post-season.

Don't we know those things already?

3 run homer. Not a grand slam. Seems like that’s the only big hit of the last decade.

Ive got to say, poppy and jerksticks were two of the most optimistic sox fans and board posters over in my time here. The fact that the fan base has lost guys like that fully is awful.

And those two used to drive me crazy with their optimism and I considered myself an optimist!

I said this the other day, but I don’t think the organization has any idea how much last year killed the fan base.

We agree on this. I think it’s a terrible idea. Go to Charlotte and earn the promotion

It’s absolutely insanity.  Rarely should you not play the service time game, especially when you’re owner is Jerry Reinsdorf, you’re coming off a 121 loss season, and the prospect is question has not come close to forcing the issue.

Oscar Colas had an 800+ ops at Charlotte in 2023...Montgomery 100 points lower and the majority of the evaluation world doesn't believe he can handle MLB SS to boot.

Then you're going to stick him in terrible western conditions?

Even if, like me, you’ve decided that you don’t like playing service games any more, you still can’t make a solid case for calling him up based on his performance.

It's also possible they do know (they aren't that stupid) but basically have said screw you to the fan base, 'we don't care what you think...'

This is the second time this week where you’ve said they aren’t that stupid and my brain immediately responded “are you sure?”

I think they may just be this stupid.  For example, how long have they employed this dumpster diving strategy to build a roster, whether they have young players that need playing time or not?  It never works and it never changes.

You finally got your wish with Taylor. I look forward to him leading us to the playoffs, or bringing back the haul you promised he would.

Look at his 2021/22/23 statistics.

Look at his 2024 statistics with the Pirates.

Look at his age, for a speed-based/defense-first player whose highest HR total has been 21 but is usually at least ten lower...

I'm looking at how this guy had to tell everyone as often as possible that his idea of signing M.A.T. was baseball brilliance. I look forward to a top 3 in the MVP balloting.

Hyperbole.  About the best anyone would realistically expect at his age coming off last season would be a 1.0 fWAR, 1.5 would be REALLY pushing it.

That's off by at least 8-9 fWAR from the likes of Judge and Witt, Jr.

Like I said in another thread, Taylor was good in 2022 and 2023 so I thought he would be a good add last offseason.  The guy completely tanked in 2024, likely due to old age — if his offense tanks worse than it usually is because he was never a good hitter to begin with, his great glove can’t make up for it.  Obviously, I was wrong and Taylor would have been a bad acquisition last offseason.  So I’m not sure what point you are trying to make here.  I doubt he is going to improve another year later at age 34.  I guess if Robert is traded during ST, it could make some sense, but what about all the other mediocre veterans that were acquired?

Why does Getz continue to acquire bad veterans when he has his own young players to give at bats to?

That’s all WE employs — hyperbole.  He is saying I raved about one mediocre player when all I said is that Taylor would be a good “flip candidate” for Getz to acquire last offseason.

Meanwhile, WE is the same guy that claimed last year’s bullpen could be lockdown.  So while he is spouting hyperbole about how I was wrong about one mediocre “flip candidate”, WE was wrong about an entire crappy bullpen that his lord and master Getz built.

But this is what WE does.  He’s a lot like Jerry — defer, deflect, etc.  Anything to ignore the absolute flaming dumpster state of the White Sox.

He should absolutely not be the opening day SS which is why I'm expecting he will be.

I think some of the folks (not you) that are against rushing prospects are living in the past. If a kid is 22 or up and is considered an elite prospect, bring him up. The Royals let Witt have a miserable season, then he ultimately became a star rather quickly. See the ball, hit the ball. It's not a complicated game. Let Colson play on opening day. Why not? The team is gonna lose 110 regardless.
