No Sox game so I watched Cubs.  Bonehead play by a solid veteran cost them the game.  So take it easy on our youngsters when they goof up.

More like a freak play...how many times do you see that happen in such a key situation?

Maybe once or twice a season?

A player has got to know exactly how many strides it takes him to get to 1st base. He goofed. Of course he’s trying to hit the bag with his toe.

Brewers: Can they continue to score without slug?
The Brewers lead the National League in runs per game and OPS since the start of June, but it’s happened with a mix of patience, contact and speed, and not with power. GM Matt Arnold considered acquiring a bat at the Deadline, but the choices were sparse beyond D-backs slugger Eugenio Suárez, and the prices were astronomical. And besides, June acquisition Andrew Vaughn has already given the Brewers a jolt. The last World Series winner to finish the regular season below league average in slugging percentage was the 2012 Giants. -- Adam McCalvy

The way the Brewers run themselves and the research they do on people, personalities -- that goes into a lot of what we’re seeing right now. Power of friendship, right?” Trevor Megill told the newspaper. “We’ve got a college-minded coach at the helm and I think a lot of our guys are just that gritty, tough, and we go and get after it. I think that’s our biggest strength: A lot of guys that like each other and a lot of guys willing to put their body on the line every night.”

Amazing what the Power of Friendship can do… pic.twitter.com/IbO48dN0vm

In a subsequent story about the Brewers’ success, again in USA Today but this time written by Bob Nightengale, Megill used the phrase again.

“We’re going to start wearing 'Power of Friendship' T-shirts," he said. “Then people can start recognizing who we are. I mean, people were freaking out last year when we won 93 games. Maybe they didn’t think we could do it again."

MLB's first female umpire is currently officiating first base in this Florida/Atlanta game if anyone is interested.

What's she wearing?

Cool story about undrafted kid from a college nobody's ever heard of becoming a key member of one of the better bullpens in the game.

Another guy who throws 97-99 in that pen, to go with Suarez M.Miller Morejon Estrada and Adam (soft tosser).

30. Colorado Rockies (30-88)

Don’t lose 122 games. Improved play over the past month has made it far more plausible that the Rockies will avoid the ultimate infamy of losing more games than the 2024 White Sox, but it’s by no means a sure thing. The Rockies must go 12-32 the rest of the way to reach the 42-win mark that Chicago could not. And with one of baseball’s toughest remaining schedules, including seven more contests against both the Dodgers and the Padres, Colorado is going to have to earn it. Bold prediction: They’ll get it done.

Dodgers swept 6-0 by Angels in season series

At one point about a month ago the Dodgers were 24 over and SD just +6 and 9 games back.

LA now 12-21 and Padres on a +11 stretch for a ten game swing.

Three games in LA this weekend, three at PetCo next weekend with roughly 40 games remaining.

Closest SD has been with LA this late in the season since before LA started their Puig charged playoff run in 2013.

That 2-1 loss yesterday had to be the most frustrating, heartbreaking Cubs game ever.

Lol, today's game might be a new contender. Closer gives up a go ahead HR to a .125 hitter in the 9th. PCA reaches on a single, steals second on the next pitch, but gets tagged out after oversliding the bag (his second out on the bases in a low scoring game). Cubs lose 3-2.

Here comes the 1969, Batman and Brant Brown stories.

Must feel a bit like late in 2005 did for Sox fans...nervous energy/excitement.

Except CLE never caught them...Riske/Crede game was high water mark.

Luckily for Cubs, the Mets pulling a similar fade job and only 1/2 game up on Cindy.
