caulfield12
PCA has gone absolutely insane...9 homers now Ahmed Rosario to play SS clearly the better/cheaper choice instead of Josh Rojas (which is the obvious hindsight call now)...everyone ripped Rosario's defense, but nobody can equal Amaya's offensive ineptitude Nationals already had CJ Abrams too 268 /727 Edited May 4 by caulfield12

Autumn Dreamin
TEX fire their offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker. Top 4 team ERA in the AL, but a losing record thanks to scoring fewer runs than everyone but the Rockies (yes, including the Sox). Very Sox-like 82 team WRC+ coming into today despite the talent on the roster.

caulfield12
Angels on pace for 65-97. Pirates for 54-108. YIKES...things are getting REALLY ugly in Pittsburgh and Colorado these days. Angels' fans are already quite used to this, with Rendon and Trout...and losing Ohtani for nothing in return. In Dave Roberts' view, the Rockies' failures fall more on ownership than on his former mentor. "I’m bummed. I’m disappointed. I don’t think Casey Stengel could change the outcome of that ballclub," Roberts told reporters on Sunday, via the Los Angeles Times. "That’s not the manager’s fault," he added. "Obviously, they felt they needed a change in voice or direction, but for me, there’s not many people that are better than Buddy Black. It’s very disappointing. It’s certainly not his doing." yahoosports.com Edited May 13 by caulfield12
Autumn Dreamin
https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/why-are-the-colorado-rockies-so-bad-and-is-there-any-hope-of-them-getting-better-201709740.html Quote Colorado’s insular environment is unlike anything else in professional baseball. A form of blind loyalty — driven, sources say, by team owner Dick Monfort — has left most of the organization stuck in the 2010s. As a paradigm-shifting technological revolution swept baseball over the past decade, the Rockies simply failed to adapt, leaving them woefully behind the times. They are, for instance, the only MLB team without an internal pitch-grading system or proprietary stuff-plus model. [...] And while the Rockies have often maintained a respectable payroll, Monfort has consistently balked at making financial investments in the organization’s infrastructure. That has been most impactful in terms of technology, where the Rockies lag far behind the 29 other clubs. In fact, sources indicated to Yahoo that Monfort — who chaired the owners committee during the 2022 CBA negotiations — is hoping the next CBA contains a salary cap, which he believes would give his fallen franchise a better chance. Importantly, Monfort is reportedly seeking a cap that extends beyond MLB payroll to cover all organizational spending, including coaching, technology and scouting. You're really going to blur the line between general front office spending, minors, scouting and travel budgets, Intl operations, interpreters/translators, Dominican/Venezuelan complexes, equipment/technology...which runs together with analytics, athletic training/nutrition and sports psychology and let's say running one more minor league team than other organizations in either short season or complex ball. Having a cap/ceiling and floors for all that...including bonus/signing pools? Seems it would be ripe for cheating or pushing boundaries of one line item into another. It's just a way to punish the actually innovative teams, by the owners who still believe baseball should be stuck in 1955.

Ofc all the articles coming out now on Monfort in Colorado align almost perfectly with what was said about JR over the last year. Speaking of stubborn. Maybe Ishbia got the sense that the Pohlad family in MN was even more divided about what to do with the team going ahead than the Reinsdorfs. They seem to want a valuation ONLY $200-300 million less than the White Sox while simultaneously assuming $425-450 million in additional debt, which is crazy. Plus they have big contracts for Correa Buxton and Lopez on the books, too. Ishbias would much rather push that money (instead) into a new stadium/entertainment complex concept.
