That’s awesome. I knew he had a solid year, but I didn’t realize it was that good.

Also nice that he got a taste of A+ ball and put up a cool 1.020 OPS in those 11 games.

After Montgomery, Fauske, and Wolkow, I think the Sox need to address their talent pool in the outfield. They’ll probably take one of the SS’s in the draft next year, and they should those guys are all rated in the top of the class (we’ll see what happens) but they desperately need outfielders

Shortstops can generally move to other positions, look at Jackson Merrill. If Carlson works out, Bonemer is going to move, and I bet he could handle an OF position, possibly even center.

As far as the new Top 100, all 5 Sox sport a 55 FV, so there’s no clear cut number 1. Personally, I have Bonemer > B. Montgomery just cuz there’s more upside there. I also have McDougal and Oppor in essentially the same tier as the Top 5 guys. Would not be surprised to see one or both of them sneak onto top 100s soon.  After the top 9 guys, though, I think the system falls off a cliff. They really need to do better in LatAm to get depth.

And this guy took a year off to sign with the White Sox.

A little more detail from the article:

  • White Sox lefthander Christian Oppor cracked the top 20 in our sliders ranking and leads all pitchers in Stuff+ scores for changeups. His change has 14-15 mph off velocity separation off his fastball and good vertical separation, too. Oppor also shows the ability to command the pitch, which translates to high whiffs and chase rates.

Adisyn Coffey's changeup also made the top 20. UDFA Carson Jacobs made the top 20 for splitters.

Seems like Oppor has a shot to crack top 100 lists if he keeps it up in A+/AA. Having the best changeup in the minors, and a top 20 slider will absolutely play.

Don’t forget that his fastball tops out over 100.

Thanks for posting this. Good stuff.

@Y2Jimmy0, was it you who said Carlson is the better prospect, without question, back when we drafted him? I recall somebody saying that.
