Bad GMs hired by a terrible owner.

KW was once a good GM…unfortunately once analytics and modern player development & scouting tools took over the game he was left in the dust

Not falling for Westeddy's trolling about spring training games seems impossible for some.

Trolling should be funny.  His shtick is lame and boring.

I’m with you, but it’s hard to be optimistic about Eder right now.  And I’m not a guy who typically overreacts to early season velocity or temporary drops, but him throwing 92 MPH is incredibly concerning given his challenges last year.

Yeah, even if you ignore Spring Training, dude has sucked the last 2 years.

I know it was a short appearance, but Pallette with a 50% CSW rate.  He’s going to be up at some point in the first of this year if I had to guess.

His command is that of an extreme power pitcher

Can it be dead arm period? Eder's gotten through his first 2 appearances fine. Where is he supposed to be? 95-97?

Other than that, S. Wilson and Pallette looked steady.

It certainly could be dead arm or him trying to reign things in to improve his control.  But untimely the hope with Eder was a velocity increase if limited to one or two innings and he’s currently going backwards.  I’m not 100% writing him off just yet, but I don’t see what reasons for optimism there are with him.

I wonder if they've moved him to the Pen full-time, or if it's just a case of if a young arm is ready to go, they'll find a spot on the active roster.

On another matter, they've had worse players/placeholders on the active roster than Maton.

Wasn't Eder at 93-96 touching 97 last time out?

Dead arm periods are unlikely this early.

It's just about his availability to bounce back regularly in 1-2 days.

You can't make them wait three days if you're an mlb reliever.

Pallette?  They have permanently moved him to being a reliever.  I saw one article that talked about how they looked at how his arm recovers after starting vs. reliving and they felt pretty confidently the stuff was regularly with the latter.

Looks like Steven Wilson will make team...at least so far.

Karinchak not so much.

No. He was hitting 94 on the 23rd and sitting around 93 on the 27th.

So average to below average for a major league reliever the last three years...?  Maybe a tick higher than average for a lefty.

Ofc Alex Vesia gets away with it due to his control and off speed stuff.

Did I miss it in this thread anywhere, but did anyone bring how well Martin pitched today, especially against a very tough set of six batters. I thought he looked outstanding, his 2nd game of the spring where he's been really good. Again, he wasn't throwing against minor league batters, but some really outstanding bats.

I have to think right now (I know, only two short outings) that Martin has the inside track of being the opening day starter.

I don't think it's an automatic thing he gets traded if he can keep pitching this well...Cannon is much more likely to be a 4/5 guy, but we don't exactly know Martin's full potential coming off a major injury.  It would ALSO be huge if Thorpe can at least eventually be a "guy" the holds down the back of the rotation and NOT just with a 5.0-6.0 ERA.

Perez and Wilson will eventually get traded at some point...but you have to start building somewhere.

At least guys like Martin and Shane Smith have some decent "upside" compared to some of the guys we have out in the bullpen.

That's disappointing. Was hoping they would work on conditioning and give it another shot at starting

Have seen Garrett Schoenle pitch this spring but no Adisyn Coffey...what's the latest?   Coffey to High A or Birmingham?

Coffey threw 35 games at AAA last year. He'd probably go back to AAA.

Adams got tagged for two rockets, but he has legit swing and miss in his repertoire. Everytime I see him pitch I'm left with the impression he's going to have a very successful big league career.

Doesn’t he have an ERA over 6 in the past two seasons in the minors?  There really shouldn’t be any expectations for the guy, much less high expectations.

I really hope Davis Martin gets the opening day start.

It’d be a really cool honor for a dude who has been with the org for a while and worked his way back from injuries.

That being said, I fully expect it to be Martin Perez because he’s a more established pitcher and blah blah blah.

Pitchers do consider it an honor, and I'm with you, why not give it to someone who might be with you for a while?

Crochet was OD starter last year despite having never started a game before.

The Sox control Martin through 2030, so it seems ridiculous to think about trading him....the Sox have to start building this thing up.

On the other hand, per my reading of the  prospect reviews, it appears that we'll have 5+ additional starting pitching prospects ready to go by 2026 (including a couple on the "just-missed" list).

The Sox are still mighty light on position player prospects, so they've got to be open, if not aggressive, in pursuit of positional acquisitions.  Dealing from depth may be the way to go.
