What's the deal here? Pretty much just a guy at this point? 5th starter / mop up?

Honestly, he’s just a dude that can eat up innings in a pinch, which has some value as a rebuilding team that may not want to force actual prospects into situations where they start on short rest, etc.  He simply doesn’t K enough guys to be a #5 starter / swingman on a competitive team IMO.  My guess is he will eventually be DFAed this year when actual prospects warrant 40 man spots.

Having guys on the 40-man that you can option is good.

Almost all of the rotation is back end guys right now.  The red meat won't get here for a year or two, hopefully.  That whole string of Shuster, Nastrini, Canon, Martin, Wilson, etc, are guys you hope figure it out and give you that 4.5 era over 160 innings to fill some innings over the course of seasons.  Maybe a Burke has more of a mid rotation ceiling, but there just aren't those guys here yet.

What's that have to do with the White Sox?

I didn’t expect a whole lot in return for Bummer to begin with, but that trade has aged worse quicker than I expected.

That whole trade was loaded with non-tenders and non-gonna happens on day one.  We are down to hoping Riley Gowens overcomes the odds and gives us anything in a system where about 15 guys are ahead of him on the depth chart.

It was basically just roster filler.

At first I thought that was supposed to be JR, which would have been funny enough.  But when I realized it was just an apathetic old geezer Sox fan, I laughed my ass off.  Is this just a Photoshop or can you really buy this thing?

Smith will be here at the end of the year. My prediction.

The Gregory Santos trade hasn’t aged very well either.

Yeah that’s an unfortunate one because Berroa and Larson both got hurt. But I still have hope for them. DeLoach is probably just a guy though, he probably won’t even be in the organization at this time next year.

I want to see more of Smith before I judge.  I want to see him go six innings to see if his stuff plays up in relief, or if he can do this for a full start.  I have a bit of hope, but I am not ready to judge yet.

Yeah, Szymborski was making a point that spring training hats could look like somebody spent more than 2 minutes pasting 1 logo on top of another. He was doing AI hate of fearsome Padre dudes, and all. It was suggested he do one tying in anger at the team and resistance to getting hurt.

I think Davis Martin is better than that. My prediction is that he puts up an All Star caliber season. His changeup is a game changer

If the Big 3 Shane Smith and Burke all live up to their potential #2 rotation in all of baseball behind LAD.

If Martin pitches well (AS level well) I really hope they don't just take the best offer on the table for him. He has so much service time remaining you really don't lose any value holding him for a year or even two until someone just caves and blows you away on a offer. To assume our top pitching prospects all stay healthy would be foolish and trading away solid cost controlled pitching depth without significant surplus on a return is not going to age well.
