  • This is easily the least looked forwarded to opening day in my life.  But with low expectations comes the opportunity of fun

  • Even MLB.tv is trying to save you from watching this organization.

  • I would have NEVER expected a Vargas K to start the season.

Great game to start the season.  My guy Robert started with a double but looked not so good a couple of his ABs. Game was a joy to watch until I started having flashbacks to last year when Leasure did his best to give up the lead before he was taken out.  A shutout would have been nice, but 8 runs?  And only 1 ER given up?  Whoda thunk?  Great start to a better season in '25!

Sosa today:

103.9 MPH

106.4 MPH

85.4

104.7 MPH

In other news, Aaron Bummer still sucks lol.

Imploding.

And Gavin Sheets homered.

Paul DeJong, 4 PAs, 4 Ks.

That's ok just think that if Booser was brought in instead of Clevinger maybe Trout or Soler hit a HR to tie it or grannie to go ahead. Maybe then Sox are demoralized and don't have the 5 run 8th .

They end  up losing a game late and we're hearing same old Sox and different people jump in the thread who were noticeable absent without too much to make fun of.

But plenty of time for that soon. Long season.

Can't be looking for a walk against a position player. Shameful.

Not supposed to take a walk, not supposed to hit a dong. Sounds like a no win situation

Leasure has always had a good arm, but it's all about command/control.

Maybe the new split finger combined with the slider and fastball will be enough to keep hitters honest this year.

The pitching should be pretty good this year.  Guys like Burke and Martin aren't TOR, but they aren't 5th starters either...more mid-rotation guys with #2 potential.    Leasure in the pen is interesting - they haven't hesitated to cut losses on failed prospects, yet he  not only sticks on the 40, he sticks on the 26.
The coaching staff looks much better.   Venable is smart and is not whining about the clubhouse.
Lot of smiles and energy from the players.    Vargas and Sosa.
And cutting bait on failed prospects is refreshing (once one gets over the angst of more waste on failed prospects).

All tempered with the reality that the Angels may be worse than us.    Or maybe my 63-99 prediction should be reversed.

I think it's the right mix of veterans...reminding the young players with their professionalism that they have to EARN playing time and not just have it simply given to them.

In some ways, I hope they send Baldwin back down to the minors when Rojas returns just so he can get regular at-bats.

Which means Maton would have the last spot on the team due to his spring training impression/s.  Everyone seems to love Maton's personality in the clubhouse, team chemistry is important coming off 121 losses.

Moving on from Fletcher and Colas helps too, Steven Wilson, etc.

We'll have to wait and see how this Closer Clevinger Experiment works out.  So far, so good.

I was listening on the radio and he makes me nervous falling behind everyone. The first guy he faced I believe grounded out weakly on a 2-0 count with his team down 3 runs....I'm thinking the Angels aren't very good.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised it wasn't Booser, but it seems like Venable's going to manage "by feel" every single game in the early going and will resist naming an official closer (Clevinger) for as long as possible to keep all the young/inexperienced arms down in that pen feeling like they could be used at any time and in any situation.

Bryse Wilson and Vasil seem like the designated "long/swing" guys for now...or spot starters.

He has to have a better "feel" than Grifol or Reese McGuire

Did McGuire make the Cubs or sent down?

Funny that both Nicky Lopez and Jankowski were both there at the start of spring training...

8-1 versus 7-3, pretty darned close, nobody saw a blowout coming with Kukuchi vs. the inexperienced Burke.

He is not on their 26 man roster....maybe Wrigley is too close to a school?

i'm glad to have a manager that can teach some of the fanbase: closer is not a Position

Counterpoint: 90% of both players and coaches. Closer by committee works on s%*# and mediocre teams. I've never personally seen it work on an good or elite team.
