Quin
43 minutes ago, Ozzie for Manager said: One of the dumbest trades made by Hahn and company. 25hrs. 800 ops. Under team control for a few more years and was a great clubhouse guy who wanted to be here and was a fan favorite. Traded for a fringe prospect with injury history. They always work out. Meanwhile marlins flipped him for multiple better prospects I think Eder takes the cake, since Hahn (supposedly) had a trade with TA going to the Marlins worked out and then Kenny just decided it would be Burger instead. Perfectly encapsulates the organizational dysfunction.

But lets not act like the Fish made out like bandits. They saw what they had in Burger and dumped him for 2 guys that are incredibly unlikely to ever be big league contributors. Burger has to be one of the most overrated players in baseball by this fanbase. He can hit a bit, but not enough to be a DH, and he can't field a position. I wish him well, but he would have no purpose on this roster.

Give me 3 guys who are likely to never to be big league contributors over just 1 who is ever likely to be a big league contributor I guess. Still a little surprised with the Sox handling of Eder. I'd much rather try him out over 4-5 guys on the 40 man. But I don't pretend to know more about these players than they people making these decisions. It just felt like Eder could still be a big leaguer. Is what it is. Definitely a bad trade by the former regime, I just think its comical how many Sox fans think Burger is way better than he actually is. The Sox BADLY needed to get away from players like Jake Burger.

I believe we are still waiting to see if the Sox can draft, acquire, and/or develop an MLB hitter with a .786 OPS. We already know Vaughn couldn’t do it. Yes, he’s no great shakes but he’s better than cash considerations. Edited March 31 by WhiteSox2023

Juan soto wouldn't be a solution for this roster. The fact is you have up a productive player for nothing. Except cash 2 1

Burger's a much more impactful hitter than Vaughn and cheaper. He has him in bat speed and EV. Yet we still hold on to Vaughn because of draft position leadership marketing. Whatever. Maybe marketing hair loss products? Apparently one of the AL favorites thinks Burger will do the trick for their current roster.

GreenSox
When you trade for prospects, you will have a high miss rate. Yea, a few of his trades look pretty sucky. Some look pretty good, though. Some are described as bad, but they really weren't (Santos, e.g.).. And, in contrast to the last guy, none have been devastating!. Meanwhile, he continues to bring knowledgeable people into the org (also in contrast to the last guy). He's trying to improve.

Well, when you look at the roster and trades...you look at net in and net out. Burger/Eder trade...net loss. Vaughn draft...net loss based on production per $$$, vorp. The fact of the matter is that they KEPT Vaughn and didn't keep Burger...and now the entertainment value/product has been diminished in Chicago. SouthSide fans have always loved their home run hitters, even in down days. Burger has the much better backstory of triumph over adversity/persistence/perseverance/resilience. Just reading through the things he's gone through with his kid this last year, you can't help but root for the guy. Whereas does ANYONE go to the ballpark just to watch Andrew Vaughn? How many buy his jerseys, for example? Do they even offer Vaughn jerseys for sale at the home park souvenir store? A handful of remaining fans and jerseys...? The problem is William Bergolla's the biggest "hit" so far of ALL his trades...we still don't have any high impact position players. The closest was a trade that Getz isn't even responsible for, Giolito for Quero. Obviously the jury's still out on Teel and Braden Montgomery. As well as on Vargas. On the other hand, the only trade where the jury is not out is Mena for Fletcher. That one is bad and looked bad at the time; and in that one, we're the ones that gave up the more uncertain prospect. Otherwise, the Santos trade is still live and TBD; as are the Cease and Crochet trades. And as questionable as the Fedde trade looked (and still looks) it's at worst a neutral, because we wouldn't have had Fedde to trade, but for Getz. And he also deserves some of the credit for getting Crochet out of the bullpen. The last guy sputtered at the start but did some good work in his year 2; and then in year 3, it all went to hell and he kept digging a bigger hole. Hopefully, this won't repeat. caulfield12
Was looking at the list of FA outfielders still available for the Braves to replace Profar and it's BLEAK. You've got the White Sox wanting to offload Robert and Benintendi, the Mets want to do the same with Starling Marte...all three have relatively big contracts. Don't think the likes of Michael A. Taylor, Slater, or Jankowski would be enticing, lol. Maybe a HEALTHY Tauchman? The Braves had recently signed Alex Verdugo for a bargain basement price, he, Bryan de la Cruz and Kelenic will be their first choices to plug the gap while waiting on Acuna Jr., to return. REMAINING UNSIGNED: Adam Duvall (former Brave), David Peralta (pretty useful last year in SD, familiar with NL), Robbie Grossman and Aaron Hicks are pretty much all that's left now. Mediocre DH types aren't moving the needle Well, obviously they value him more than giving Elko the at-bats or putting Ramos/Sosa/Vargas at 1B, if that's the standard, but it's not much of one. Producing an OPS higher than 750 or 775, however, would be a GOOD START. We can't even manage that at any position, YET. Teel or Quero are likely to be the first...or Meidroth, if you're a big believer in his OBP game.
