Don't think Shane Smith will be stealing any votes going from Crochet. Ill admit it, I thought Crochet was a fluke and expected him to disappoint after we traded him. At least our trade return has looked very promising overall.

He was 25 when they traded him, even in a rebuild, he's someone you should be building around. However, the White Sox don't conduct business in normal ways. I think Getz knew they weren't going to have the resources available to resign him, and my guess is Crochet didn't have much interest in being here long term. And as we sit here today, it looks like Getz did a good job in the return, but we'll see how the guys develop. 3

Yeah its easy for ownership like Boston to say "Hey we got this reliever whose never been a starter before but looks like an ace, lets give him $170,000,000 and lock him up." while the White Sox ownership goes "Yeah players aren't worth that much, what if he sucks we'll have to fold the franchise, trade him." 1 1

If the Sox couldn't see themselves in a World Series during the Crochet contract period, they shouldn't have extended him. I know I don't see it happening, so I have no problem with them dealing him, and so far the deal is looking decent.
chitownsportsfan
He's been perhaps just mildly disappointing for them? Like he's been good, but not quite great. We'll see how he holds up in the 2nd half.

The Red Sox signed him to a six year, 170 million deal. The White Sox have very little salary committed to 2025, and that will most likely be the case in 2026. Pay Crochet 35 million 2025, 2026 and 2027. Ideally, in 2028, the White Sox would be putting the finishing touches on their core roster, and you've got Crochet making 21 million a season instead of 35, and he's still 28 years old. But again, the Sox would NEVER do that.

They are getting their asses handed to them between the losses of admissions, advertising and not having any TV dollars for most of the season.

What is great if that's not lol 2

chitownsportsfan
I stand corrected. Looking at his metrics he's gotten a bit lucky with home run rate, velo is down a bit but that might be a result of going deeper into games.

I mentioned it seemed unlikely given that it was off-season changes which are typically externally-driven. This quote tells you that Garrett's next step was done outside the Sox purview. I was but it's not that simple obviously Crochet , Getz and the coaches all worked in harmony to put him in the best position to succeed. There's really no reason whatsoever to discredit anyone especially when during season Crochet was very complimentary of his handlers . He also was a 3 pitch pitcher until the league caught up to him a little bit after his 1st 3 starts and he had a rough patch .He gave up 17 runs in 11.2 innings so the cutter he was working on with the coaches in Spring training became a much bigger part of his arsenal because they were pounding his sweeper. And that's just a part of what not only developed him into a great pitcher but kept him healthy when no one here thought it was possible. There was a clear plan that he liked so much to keep him on a regimented starters schedule that he thought it was in his best interest to not pitch in relief if he was traded unless you pay me to jeopardize my career. A lot of people didn't like that. I loved it. He was the master of his own destiny but that destiny took shape with the help of the Sox. To me that was just a clickbait headline. Sure it feels like the big league because the Red Sox have established players and draw big crowds . Could be as simple as that. There was nothing inherently or specifically bad mentioned. Probably how every legit big league team feels visiting any AL Central city other than Detroit…which isn't exactly Miami, Las Vegas or So Cal. Remember Cora’s quote about GRate/Chicago being a shithole?
